Chase is my real name, however Yojimbo is merely a nicname that I have taken on. I'm not sure if that counts for anything but I try to use the same name through everything online.

Also, using my real name wouldn't help me taking responsability for what I say, since no one here knows me or my real name anyway. It would help creepy stalkers/scam artists find me though.

I find it strange to give out my last name to people, I would make my username Steven but not my last name just because I wouldn't want to more of a personal choice. Also I use the same user name or some variation upon it. My last.fm, my Steam was this, my Live account, this account, etc.
My name in comparison to BarbaricGoose seems rather lame, but I don't post anything I wouldn't say in real life, so it wouldn't matter either way. I try not to ruffle any feathers.

Technically my account name is my real life name. You just have to figure out what it stands for is all.

Lots of people don't get very far here doing the whole insult exchange. We here at the Escapist (As you should know) don't deal well with people trolling one another.
OT : My real name can be accessed through my Facebook profile provided on my account. Not to mention my "Avatar" is me in the picture. Pretty sure that counts for something.

Internet handles are there for your security, not to hide from responsibility with. Granted, people DO that, but it serves a better purpose. The people you want to know your name are those you trust on a trustworthy site. I wouldn't call the Escapist forums a foolproof idea...

I think the majority of people will act the same way they do face to face so it doesn't really make a difference. Those who can change between personalities well and really like being an asshole are a very small minority. And it's not like someone else doesn't have your name so you can still be confused.
Also, I like using a different name because I find using your own name lacks creativity and just generally boring. If you think that is still hiding then you can go suck a lemmon cause I don't.
