Call of Duty is a series that appeals to the lowest common denominator. It doesn't require a lot of thinking to get a kill or two, and it's designed so that even the most "newbish" players can get in there and at least make some progress. It's forgiving to those who aren't very good, and offers very visceral rewards for any effort whatsoever.
I don't exactly dislike the franchise. I still play MW2 with my friends, but only offline in split-screen when we're feeling like shooting each other. But for my own online gaming, I've moved on to more in-depth games.
I prefer tactical games like MAG, which offer a more thoughtful approach and more options for tackling objective-based gameplay. Deathmatches just don't hold the same appeal that they used to since I've grown up a little.
Some people just like to kill, kill, kill and that's their only goal. For me? Your KDR should be a means to an end, not the end itself. You don't play a game of football with the only goal being to tackle everybody on the opposite team over and over again. You use your positions, your skills, and your finesse to work with your team to achieve a specific goal, and that's the kind of teamwork and objective-based play that seems to be missing from the COD series, even in their add-on game modes.
I could go on, but this is already getting a little longer than I meant it to. In short, COD is fine, it's fun to tool around with, but at the end of the day, the experience is more shallow than playing a more tactical and teamwork-centered experience.
