I laugh at the phrase "dishonor the family." I really couldn't care less if my daughter (or hell, let's cover our bases here, son) became a porn star/stripper/Hooter's waitress. Those are legit jobs in legal industries and if they're of legal age, then it's their decision. I may try to put things into perspective, though. Say my daughter wanted to be in a porno because she thought it would make her be "beautiful" or some similar thing. I'd tell her the cold, hard facts - that men only watch it as a ******bation aid - and encourage something like modelling. But in the end, I wouldn't excommunicate or punish her at all.

How many people on topic have kids? I can't think of many normal parents who would actually say "It's their life" if their kid became a porn star. No offense, but if I found out my son or daughter was a porn star, I would be upset.
I'd rather my kids get a normal degree and use it to get a respectable job. And yes, I said respectable. Let's face it, I'm not going to be proud to say "My kid's a porn star" when I'm having a cookout with my neighbors.

I wouldn't DISOWN them necessarily, but I would also try anything to get them a better job than screwing someone for millions of people to see. It's just... shameful.

If I had a DAUGHTER who was a porn star, I would cry myself to sleep every night (after I castrate myself from insanity).

If I had a SON who was a porn star, I would shake his hand and say "I will buy all of your videos and make the best scenes into a compilation, so that we can show it at your High School Reunion (or AIDS-related funeral)."

I remember reading somewhere that children from poorer backgrounds don't do as well in education and so struggle to get jobs afterwards, I'm guessing it's motivation from the parents because of money worries etc, so I wake my child every morning with a cattle-prod and a nutritious breakfast! lol
But seriously my daughter could grow up to be anything at all, one mistake could see her homeless and addicted to drugs where as one passing opportunity could make her the queen of the universe, she'll be my daughter either way and loved all the same.

How awesome would it be if your kid did become ruler of the universe!? In your face other parents! lol

If my kid became a porn-star, I would give them an epic high-five that would echo through the universe.

I think if you are a good father, your daughter won't become a pornstar. It's the industry cliche that they all have daddy issues, is it not? I don't really know what it feels like to care so much for another human being, definately not in a protective way...this question is too hard...
comming from the Sexual Harasment Panda, i guess i wouldn't excpect any more [sup](its a joke take it lightly)[/sup]

O.T. If my daughter that i don't have became a porn star I'd probably get really pissed, cut off any relation to her, and kick her out for good...from everything.

Just hope there isnt a weapon within 5 feet when she tells me.

Meanwhile, I laugh at the fact that you censored the word "masturbation".

In all seriousness though, I would not want my daughter doing that for a few reasons, and the whole dishonouring thing would be used by me, as it is with some parents already, as a preventative threat.

1)She might get an STD as industry safety standards are pretty fucking low. No condoms? WTF?!?

2)I wouldn't want her viewed as a whore through anyone's eyes, including mine.

3) I would expect my daughter to pursue an academic career, but I would not be able to help it if she doesn't

In closing, thank god I am not a parent and have no will to become one.
Oh, contraire.
1) The porn industry is actually one of the safest places to have sex on the planet. You have to go through a whole host of tests at least every month to ensure that you don't have anything. Birth control is mandatory for females. They don't use condoms because they know they won't need one.
2) Well that's your oppinion. To me, whorring is selling yourself for money. Porn is being employed to show yourself. There's a fine distinction.
3) Just what I was thinking. I agree with you here.

My kids would not turn out like that if I did a good job. If I did screw up though, I would dis-own them. Say "YOUR NOT MY KID! GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!!!!"

Have a heart man, she's your daughter. You would have to claim some responsability for her deviancy, as her father. Maybe you could stage an intervention? Ahead of excommunication?

I would attempt to be a good father so that they don't gall into undesirable jobs. Not many people have the life ambition to become a porn star anyway.

If my daughter ever became a stripper or Porn star, I imagine I'd be in jail for multiple murders. It'll be a shame, since it'll likely be the poor horny guys at the strip-clubs and/or cast/crew of the movie. Compose the jury of fathers of young girls, and I'd bet my guilt would be less solid. However, if my son wants to be a porno "actor", then by all means, just he'd better tell me which ones, not something I'd ever want to see.
What? Double-Standard? Better believe it is. Considering I already know that if I have a daughter I'll be extremely over-protective, that's the way it'd be.

Nevertheless, for number one, it is always better safe than sorry. And what does a porn star not wearing a condom say to the people watching, ESPECIALLY teenagers, who don't know much about sex yet, who might think they don't need one after watching porn.
Again, a valid point. But it brings us back to the whole topic of the thread, parenting. As a parent, I would try to (to the best of my ability, anyway) teach my kid about safe sex, yadda yadda yadda. And if, when they've turned 18 and have those lessons ingrained in them, they want to be a porn star, I'd say go for it.
Our two theoretical parenting styles are uncompatible, but neither is necessarily wrong, methinks. I've enjoyed our discussion, but it's getting late in my timezone and I must bid you farewell.

I would give the support my kids need to be able to do what ever they want.

But if the thing they aspire to be is something that is for a quick buck and isnt worth my time then yeah i would ignore them.

I dont have any jobs I want them to get into its just whatever they like the most.

My hypothetical children that I actually don't plan on ever having had certainly better not go into the porn industry, as I would take that as a clear indication I'm a failure as a father. So I suppose it's a good thing I don't ever want to have kids then.

Please allow me to intervene.
Safe sex is using condoms. End of story. Most porns I've seen, aside from the amature stuff, people DON'T use condoms.

1)Just because there's standards set doesn't always mean the company will do them. Ever walked into a McDonalds with a A health grade, but the place bee dirty and sketcy? Yeah.

2) Also how many porns have you seen? Girls get called "whores" and "bitches" all the time. You can't honestly tell me that people wouldn't think "man that fucking whore is hot" while watching it.

I won't get into a serious argument, but I'm saying that it's not really as safe as you think. I know a girl who's in the porn industry, that's why I say that.

I'll be damned if my kin degrade themselves for others.
