I'm glad to see everyone isn't praising it as the messiah. I have already bought the game, but it is nice to be able to find some flaws before you buy it.

Well, this certianly saves me the $100 buying the sucker just to find out it looks and plays like my melted kazoo.

Thanks OP.

Why the hell is everyone acting like 7.5 is a bad score? Jesus CHRIST people, 7.5 is a perfectly acceptable score. Why does it need to be a 9.9 before you're willing to play it?
Because you cant go around bragging to your friend who bought Infamous instead if it isnt the most awesomest game ever..
Actually, the PS3 version of prototype has a higher score than inFamous on metacritic at the moment... I predict it will fall alongside it in the Mid 80's in around a week though.

I'm considering getting this for a "Buy 2 get 1 free!" deal, probably as the free one as this review and some others have convinced me. I preferred InFamous anyway, so, HA! I'm allowed to be a fanboy over this!

I am never one to go by just one review. Metacritic is my best friend, and I will most likely wait for a few more reviews compiled to get an average number.
There is always a nay-sayer on a great game, or those few people who appreciate a crappy games for its few quirks.

It's worth noting that this has a 93 on metacritic, at the time of writing.

I can't make heads or tales of this. Prototype looks (like, graphically) really awful, but every review says otherwise save IGN's. Prototype looks like it has an interesting story, every review says it does, other than IGN's. The gameplay looks fun, but not as polished as inFamous, from everything I've seen so far.

Between the three open-world games released recently (Red Faction, inFamous, Prototype), I honestly have no idea which to buy.

I was never really excited for Prototype. It just seemed like Hulk: Ultimate Destruction just with more blood and a different main character...

Infamous > Prototype

WE HAVE SPOKEN!

That's because it only has 5 reviews factored in, at the time of writing of course. I'd wait until more reviews are added, though I'm still not fully convinced to buy Prototype on it's own.

I know, I'm just saying that IGN is the only one to give Prototype a bad score so far. And actually, the 360 version (with the IGN score factored in) has an 87 now. I think Bored Tomatoe was correct in saying that this will wind up being mid-80's.

I think I'm putting a little too much value into reviews, though. Crackdown was one of those "mid-80's" games, and I loved it.

I agree that some of my favorite games were given lower than perfect scores. but to be honest I put a lot more faith into reviews than I should because I don't want to go "oopsies, I just lost 60$". (I super learned this with PC Port of SR2)

Yeah, GT forums are rampant with reviews, IGN was the lowest, while there are about five other reviews that rate it quite a bit higher. I tend to see IGN as trustworthy though (though i've never had a review of a game sway me unless it's much, much lower than I expected).
They gave heavenly sword a 7.0 simply because it was short, even though it has excellent gameplay, graphics, and impeccable professionally acted voice overs.

They're usually trustworthy but every so often they have a hit or miss review. Wait for the PS3, UK, and AUS ign reviews. Though they're generally not radically different from one another, perhaps in this case they will be.

inFAMOUS > Prototype.

What an interesting journey its been. While I can't say I'm not just a bit happy that the property Activision took over Brutal Legend is thoroughly average, I doubt this really means much to anyone.
Prototype is multi-platform man, why do you care so much that inFamous has to be better? I've actually been following Prototype's development for far longer than inFamous. I rented inFamous, and its fun, but I just don't think the universe/art style are for me. Lightning really only gets you so far. Though the gameplay felt amazing (I don't think I've ever played a less frustrating platformer) i just didn't really get off on his powers, and the karma system just felt kind of forced. I mean, why do I have to pick between giving away the only food I've had in weeks to a starving pedophile, or throwing puppies into my meatgrinder to make puppy burgers. Why are those my only choices? Where's my middle ground? The average person isn't jesus or satan, I don't understand why those are my only options in inFamous.

As far as I'm concerned: Prototype = PC version; inFamous = no PC version; therefore Prototype > inFamous

I think that a 5 should be considered "average", as in it brings nothing new to the genre/meduim etc. thats how i would do it if i was a reveiwer. 6 would be a solid game, 7 would be a good game, 8 would be a great game, 9 would have to be something pretty special, and 10 would have to be a freakishly good game, only given out once a year max event. that would prevent us from reveicing the glut of >93s on metacritic etc.

Their Austalian review give it an 8.5, I do believe.

Almost all of the things the American was moaning about are never seen in any gameplay videos made by players on YouTube nor are they mentioned by the Australian review.

Well, a 7.5 seems reasonable, he makes some good points.

I hate to be that guy, but you might be wrong there.

For now, at least.

Again this falls back to the same old point "don't just listen to reviewers, form your own opinion", although it's probably quite expensive at the moment, so I can understand why people would want to look into it a little before forking out a load of cash.

Explain to me again how 7.5 is a bad score.
