Y'know...maybe it's marmite?

You either like it or you don't.

Mirror's Edge was the same way. We had 3 groups of people. The "I love it" people. The "I hate it" people. And the "*MOTIONSICKNESSTHROWUP*" people.

Why on earth would you care about the ZP review? He hates everything, I guarantee you he's not going to like Prototype.
I trust ZP more than any video review as well. The secret is that ZP's nitpickings are always on-the-spot and shows the flaws of a game without kissing anyone's ass. I also liked his theory that numerical values (scores) cannot measure a game's value.

Well shit, at least there's someone here with a decent head on his shouldners. I don't understand why people care about this so much, if you have the money for the game and don't plan on buying anything else, just buy it. Hell if you have a money back guarantee just buy it and if it's shit return it.

He shows flaws rather than flaws and positives, he's not a reviewer. He doesn't cover enough information to be a reviewer. He even said people don't care when he plays nice with a game so he's going to rip the shit out of everything.

Still, that's just one version.

Perhaps the others (other?) will pan out a bit better.
Assuming by others you mean Yahtzees, and by pan out better you mean will pan out worst, then yes that seems most likely.

I've never trusted IGN... Since I first found the site in 2006, I've noticed the reviews are growing less well written and they seem to focus on graphics too much. I used to listen to their word like it was gospel, and I ended up playing like 3 or 4 games every year. I'm trading in Tomb Raider and Halo Wars when I get Prototype anyway, so I'll get it pretty cheap. If it sucks then fine, I didn't spend a ridiculous amounts. No biggie.

I'm still trying to figure out why people compare Prototype and Infamous at all. Now that both are out, they're quite obviously very different games whose only connecting points are "you have powers", "free roaming", and "came out around the same time". Prototype is more speeding around and hacking people to bits, while Infamous plays more like an over the shoulder shooter...but with lightning.

To all those who have played it, do you agree or do you think something else should be noted?
Personally I have found IGN to be incredibly trustworthy so....

And yeah, I searched buttoned but its rather cluttered with speculation.
I think its much better than that, it is such a great game in my opinion. I'd say I'd say and 88-100.

EDIT: I also enjoyed how there was an Infamous ad right next to my Prototype review.
EDIT 2: This review is just plain wrong as well, running or jumping off buildings never alerts strike teams. It even says so in the strategy guide.

Lets just say i do it this way. I pretty much know the positive sides of a game (gameplay and what makes it fun) just by looking at gameplay in Youtube. BUT, the only thing missing is, I don't know the flaws of the game. Thus I go to the most nitpicky bastard I found, Yahtzee and any other game reviewer who has scores below 8.5. Once I know the flaws, its now up to me if I think the game is worth it.

In conclusion, I'm just saying that Yahtzee is ONE of my nitpicking critic choices, and I don't solely buy a game because of Reviews.

<3 Prototype. And 7.5 is NOT average, 5.0 is.
No, regardless of what you think it should mean, context says that 7.5 from IGN is average.
Then thank God past experience showed us at least twice how unprofessional IGN is.

COUGH COUGH Sonic COUGH COUGH Football Manager 2009.

Metacritic knows better.

Now go back to playing your precious little PS3.
Metacritic isn't done yet.
Now go back to playing your precious little PS3. (Going to return to my precious little PSP in a few, need to grind more in Phantasy Star duh)

Gameplay earned 8.0 in the review ... that's pretty above average ...

Why the hell is everyone acting like 7.5 is a bad score? Jesus CHRIST people, 7.5 is a perfectly acceptable score. Why does it need to be a 9.9 before you're willing to play it?
Would you be satisfied with a 75 on a paper in class?
That's almost a fail.

I was never really excited about this game. Sandbox gaming gets old too quickly for me.
If a 75% score is "almost a fail" then it's the scoring system that needs to be reassessed, not the product. Average games should be getting 50%, poor games should be getting below that. A 6 or a 7 shouldn't be something to be ashamed of, but then, numbered scoring stopped meaning anything well before Guitar Hero 2 was given an 11/10 to put on the box.

I trust the reviews on Kotaku. No scoring, just a listing of what was done right, what sucked, with reasoning why for each.

Hey, uhhh... you two do realise that this game is for the PS3 as well, right?

Dingo already mentioned that he wasn't fond of this game because it's published by Activision. Can't say I blame him. As for the Infamous/Prototype debate, I don't personally like the comparison either. But everyone got a bug up their ass about these two games releasing close to each other.

I dunno if it was PS3 fanboys tooting their own horn, or 360 fanboys justifying their choices. I don't really give a shit. Looks like Infamous will get a higher average score. The two are entirely different game experiences anyway. Play the one you like and STFU.

I feel dissapointed, I was looking forward to Prototype now after reading that review I don't think I will like it. Still I'll have to rent it to see for myself how it is.
Bah, you'll soon learn that all games are hyped, and almost all fall under the weight of their own ambition. I really do shed a tear for the game.

Yeah, but since inFamous is PS3 exclusive and Indigo is an ignorant PS3 troll fanboy, I assumed he would rather play with his overprices console.

I mean, why do I have to pick between giving away the only food I've had in weeks to a starving pedophile, or throwing puppies into my meatgrinder to make puppy burgers. Why are those my only choices? Where's my middle ground?
Okay... who said anything about a pedophile? Besides, I found that hearing Cole's take on the situation tended to make things a little more morally gray (let the people take the food that will feed them for a few days, or take it for you and your friends so you can feed yourselves for months?)

I think I'll wait until the harsh reviewers, ie Edge and Gamecentral get their hands on it. If it ends up with an 8 or above from either of them, its a must buy.

The PS3 is being sold for less than it costs to make it so how is it over priced? Its hardly the same as petrol where the majority of the cost is made up of taxation (in the UK at least).

Before Im accused of being a fan boy Im a 360 owner, not a PS3 owner, check my profile for my gamer tag.

Personally, I am thoroughly indifferent to sand box games. I find them boring with a lack of focus. I will be not be buying infamous, prototype or red faction. Maybe if I see one in a bargain bin for under £15 I'll take a punt, though this is doubtful as I carried on walking past mercenaries2.

I managed to play Prototype for an hour today on my lunch break and I personally think it's fantastic. I've pretty much played all the games (At least all the ones we have in stock) for 360 and there's never really been many where i've said "I'm definately going to buy that" after 1 lunch break.

I didn't do much in the way of missions, I was having too much fun gliding over the city, jumping from great heights, killing 325 innocent people, transforming into them by kneeing their heads off, slamming their heads into the ground and just curb-stomping them.

I loved running up buildings, jumping off and gliding to the next. Or grabbing a person, or car, running up to the top of a sky scraper and chucking it off, following it down just to see what destruction it had caused.

I know i'm going to love this game from start to finish, it feels like it can only get better (once i've got my powers upgraded) So I choose to ignore IGN and say it's a definately a must buy.

I was actually using a hyperbole to illustrate some of the ridiculousness of the choices you have to make, especially later on down the line. Of course there aren't any pedophiles (or puppy grinders). Also, it isn't just take the food for yourself, its fry all the innocents and then take the food for yourself. I went down evil on my first playthrough, and I can tell you firsthand the choices are nowhere near "gray." They're about as black and white as they can get, and the game forces you into picking black or white. If you try to take the gray area by attempting to pick and choose your battles, you'll never acheive hero or infamous rank and then you'll never get the best versions of all the abilities. I just wish there was a little more variation in there, like perhaps there could be bonuses for being neuteral instead of having to be either savior or demon.

...infamous rank megawatt hammer is pretty sick though.

if you actually read the ign review he tells you exactly why he gave it a 7.5, mostly to do with the repetitiveness of missions/combat. He also says different people will get different amounts of satisfaction from the sandbox style gameplay.

I played it for a bit today for the first time as well. I have to say I can see it getting repetitive after a few hours of gameplay, especially since enemy ai alert tolerence seems to be a bit too sensitive. I actually ran into this problem a tad in infamous as well, but you can't hardly do anything without attracting the attention of every goon within a half mile. Having to stop and constantly get into combat can be a tad exhausting when you're trying to explore or just get to a specific location.
