Yeah Dark Souls is pretty open, but not in the wandering the same acre of land over and over sense like Oblivion. It's open in the sense of Castlevania or Metroid.

IGN is brilliant in their tactics and I can't believe people on this site keep falling for it. There seems to be a weekly thread about how IGN is so biased and so wrong.

What's a good way to get traffic? Agree with everyone and say how much Skyrim is going to rock or saying that Skyrim is going to be the worst thing ever? You're playing right into their hand by not only reading what they wrote but by spreading it to other sites, saying how outraged you are about this.
Yes a brilliant plan. Compromise your integrity so that people across the internet will talk about what a terrible site you are. I am sorry but I fail to see how this plan could help them at all.

Oh? Dark Souls has better dragons? DLC and an Open world environment?

Well, you know what? Skyrim does too.
Seriously, IGN. What the hell? Your arguments are about as watertight as someone who beans you in the back of the head and says "it was him!"...when he's the only person next to you.

IGN is a childish and incredibly biased site soo....fuck you. I'm getting Skyrim, I'm getting Dark Souls, now shut up.

EDIT: The "Fuck you" statement is lovingly aimed at IGN.

How did Oblivion get so many fans, did I miss some kind of memo? Awful level scaling that kills any sense of progression, a repetitive world with repetitive characters and repetitive dungeons, an awful combat system that encourages kiting, and a generic and dull fetch quest for a main story. How is it that we're so excited for Skyrim when it has a pedigree like that? Anyway, I'm getting Dark Souls in case you didn't notice from my rant.

The fact that the #1 was that Skyrim has no multiplayer leads me to believe that the IGN article was written by someone who has no appreciation for the art in video games. This person misses the point of single player games, is to be in a new world, and not have strangers drop in and fuck shit up.
Thank you. I agree wholeheartedly, and couldnt have said it better.

Huh, I now have more respect for IGN since they said something so bold.
I always thought IGN had conventional views.

I can't say I disagree or agree with them since both games didn't come out yet. We will just need to wait and see.

Wow, I wonder how much Dark Soul's publisher paid for this article? Not much, evidently, considering it sounds like something a random Joe off the street could churn out in an hour. Not to mention the nonsensical logic, but people have said that many times over by now.
Not as much as Bethesda's publisher paid for high scores of their thoroughly (post-Morrowind) average RPGs
Really? I must have missed those ones between Fallout 3 and Oblivion. unless everyone else were publishing highly immersive open world sandbox RPGs BEFORE Bethesda...

Top 1 Reason I Don't Give A Fuck About Dark Souls And Why I'm Eagerly Awaiting Skyrim:

1. Dark Souls has no PC version coming. Skyrim does. Screw you IGN and screw you From Software.

I think an RPG not comming out for PC does not deserve any PC gamers attention.

I've never played Dark Souls or Demon Souls or w/e it is, but my friend has told me it should be good. I find it hard to believe Skyrim will be worse than this game simply because, in my mind, If a game has multiplayer, it means they haven't spent as much time as they could, developing the story into something epic.

Bethesda spend all their time on Single player, giving you an amazing and immersive RPG. I might borrow Dark souls or demon souls or burning-legion souls or w/e it is from my friend, when he gets it, but I honestly don't think it will top Skyrim.

This is just my opinion, and if people don't like it that's fine. I honestly couldn't care less about people saying "Skyrim will suck, Demon Souls FTW!!" so long as they reason it.

E.g. "Skyrim is going to be boring, IN MY OPINION!!!, because I find a lack of multiplayer irritating and will lose it's replayability." You shouldn't hate fellow gamers, especially ones that support the RPG genre. you should be hating on the millions of noobs that would rather play Call of Duty than have a flushing toilet.

Oh, and I agree that IGN is just nerdbaiting. It's a classic move by anyone who wants a lot of revenue from ads. They follow these simple steps:
1) Pick a highly antisipated game with an obvious rival of the same genre
2) make sure the rival hasn't been as well marketed.
3) Give X amount of stupid and weak reasons why Game A will be better than Game B
4) Front page the news article.
5) Wait for the article to spread.
6) Wait for angry fans to storm to the site and complain in the comments.
7) PROFIT!

This isn't a new technique, but it's obviously an effective one.

The dialogue system and characters in Oblivion had some of the worst immersion I've ever seen. And it's hard to get immersed in Fallout 3 when the lore is getting screwed constantly and consistency is a myth.

Not to mention that the RPG elements in those games weren't exactly implemented very well, the questlines in Oblivion were so railroaded it felt more like an action/adventure with some RPG elements that didn't even matter in the end.

Anyone who thinks any other game would ever beat an elder scrolls games in terms of scope or completeness just plain hasn't played an elder scrolls game.
Or they have played Ultima 5-7, Gothic 1 and 2, Divine Divinity 1 and 2, and you haven't.
First off yes I have now quickly an overview of them on this:
Ok I'm not going to say anything against Ultima, so what ever. But Ultima is an ancient title from a time of massive titles.
It would be like me complaining as Skyrim didn't did have the scope of bards tale (the orginal).
Gothic 1 and 2. Really you think the Gothic series has greater scope and detail than the elder scrolls series? Whats next? Two Worlds?
Divine Divinity 1 and 2 as much as I loved the turning into a dragon in the second one the scared series of games had a greater scope than they did.

But IGN wasn't comparing Skyrim to any of those games.
It was comparing it to an action focused dungeon crawler...

The article should read top 5 reasons IGN doesn't know anything about games..
I mean seriously anyone who cares that Skyrim doesn't have multiplayer doesn't get RPG's of the scope of Skyrim.
And the other points struck me and simply laughably wrong..
Anyone who thinks any other game would ever beat an elder scrolls games in terms of scope or completeness just plain hasn't played an elder scrolls game.
So you're saying that the combat in Skyrim is going to be better than the combat in Dark Souls?
Did I say the combat was better?
To be honest the combat will probably be plain different, I'm guessing dark souls combat will be twitch, god of war style hack and slash. While Skyrim will be standard for the elderscrolls series...
As to what is better that all depends on what you want..

Its like asking is ice cream with chocolate sprinkles better than a pickle and ham sandwich?

wow -.-

between the 2 I'd get Dark Souls regardless (elder scrolls just never doing it for me)

but really? o.o
its better cause of multiplayer? bullshit, and deep piles no less

combat being better? well fuck me i hope so, if its like demon's souls it better be tight and responsive, demon's souls wasn't a story driven game, it was action driven, and the elder scrolls games, to my knowledge of them are more plot driven

the open worldy-ness? not the size of the world but the content

DLC? well, a good game shouldn't need DLC to begin with. DLC should always be extra sprinkles of goodness to a great game, but thats just me

as for the 'our dragons are better' really -.- are we 2?

not that any of it matters. Skyrm and Dark Souls aren't really aimed at the same groups. Skyrm is an RPG for everybody, and as other elder scrolls games, more forgiving.

Demon's Souls hated you, it was hard, brutal and did everything it could to kill you(and interestingly enough wasn't really cheap about it), Dark Souls will be more of that, and this kinda hard isn't for every body, in fact 'this ***** is HARD' will probably scare (hehe >:) cowards**) a lot of gamers off

**- sorry had to XD
I still think that beating Ninja Gaiden:Black on Master Ninja difficulty was a TRUE feat of strength.

Not badmouthing Demon Souls or anything, that game was quite a beast, but I don't think you've felt true frustration until you've tried to beat that unholy game on its hardest difficulty setting.
*bows to your superior skill*
no sarcasm at all, you deserve a medal for that feat sir

and your probably right, but then i got fed up with Ninja Gaiden Sigma's bullshit before lvl 1 was over, (Black was the best version hands down) but while Demon's Souls likes beating my ass about as bad, I've yet to give up on it
