Bear with me here, Escapists. This is another combination rant thread/question for discussion. Feel free to skip the spoiler of rant and hit the question at the bottom of the page.

Over the past 2 days, I've been fighting with my roommate and my boyfriend over my eating habits. I eat 1-2 times per day, but I'm not often hungry, and have to be reminded to eat sometimes. This worries and upsets them, but I don't really see it as a problem.

Last night, my boyfriend and I fought for nearly 4 hours before I agreed to see a doctor. But I told him flat-out that I'd go for him. Not because I think there's a problem, but because he and my roommate do. I don't see what's wrong with me not wanting to eat if I'm not hungry. My roommate and I just argued about it (again) and I told her I'd go, but she's still pissed off at me for 'not seeing this as a problem'.

So anyway. The question for you guys is, have you ever done something because someone else wanted you to? I'm not talking chores or the usual 'Mom and Dad are yelling at me, I should do this'. Who would you do something you'd rather not for? And what have you done?

Yes, I have. In fact, it's practically that exact same situation. I'm scheduling a doctor's appointment because my fiance is very worried about my physical/mental condition, despite my assurance of the contrary. It probably is for my own good, though.
I also do a lot of things for my friends, not because I want/need to, but simply because they're my friends.

That's pretty much what I do; I eat 1-2 times a day... I don't see that as a problem at all.

As for doing things for other people, I kind of feel obligated to do several things for family members, like going to my sister's graduation a few weeks back, but I really didn't want to regardless of her being family, I just felt I had to.

Perhaps I'll find someone in the future who make me feel a little better about doing things, not for me, but for them.

I don't often do things for other people if it really inconveniences me. If it doesn't really affect me adversely, and it'll be beneficial for them, then I have no problem doing it.

I would do anything for my best friend, but she has never asked me to do anything I wouldn't normally do.

I've been in that situation before, too. What worked best for me was saying "If I eat to make you happy, I'll throw up and make everyone sad." I started taking multi-vitamins as something of a compromise, and things are just peachy keen.

Anyhoo... there are certain circumstances that warrant doing something for the sole reason that someone asked me to; it's not always a bad thing. For example, I'll go to a crumby movie that I've no desire to see, only because someone wants to see it with me. Insignificant things like that. In the end, if someone really cares about you, they'll have your best interests in mind, and won't make you do something you don't want to do.

Now, making you do something you NEED to do, that's another thing...

Trying that logic ended with my roommate telling me that I didn't know that for sure til I tried it. I then proved my point, to her chagrin. And now she won't let me ignore that.

I do stuff all the time just because people want me to do or I think they expect me to do it without a problem. Not to say people control me completely, I just like it when people (just the ones I care about) see me in a positive tone. I still have my self control and respect intact.

I have been sent to therapy because a wrote a creative writing story where I had to end the story with the following quote:

"He was found with a note in one hand and a gun in another."

You can see how this ended in me having to attend 5 sessions of 2 hours each in therapy. I joked around with the therapist for the last 3 sessions, we had a good time too since she was getting paid for it.

Sounds like my eating habits as well : /

Ummmm so much stuff I have done so little room to write.

Well there was the time to go fix a car for one of my cousins friends, I would've felt guilty saying no.

I went to 5 licensed psychiatrists because of my parents 'were worried' about my mental condition. Had been put on Prozac for a few months then changed. This was over the course of 3 years too.

Sometimes I go crazy and pig-out, and sometimes I go a day without eating, so I don't see what the problem of having a weird eating schedule is. Mine works for me because I end up doing almost nothing for hours and then have to do a ton of yard work or something. The only reason why yours should be worrying is if you do a lot of work and labor. If most of your work is light then I don't see what the big deal is, but if you're a bicycle powered delivery girl who spends all her time at the gym it might be a problem.

Suggestion!
Eat all food they want you too, but then just go to the bathroom, stick your finger down your throat, and gag your self! Don't you see? Everybody's happy now and your friends don't think you have anorexia anymore! :D

Sadly, 70% of what I do is based solely on what other people want me to do. Rest of it goes to gaming and entertainment.

Once, I took happy pills because my mom thought I was getting depressed.
They weren't much helpful. Everything got very bland very quickly to me.

It took 6 months to cut down. 6 months of no emotions. 6 months of shitty shitty shit...

So remember that sometimes you just have to shout it into their face loud and clear if you know exactly what you are doing - viciously and hostile;
NO!

Ehh, kinda do it alot. If my girlfriend and friends didn't ask me to meet up and do stuff then I would just be sitting and playing games. I clean my room not for me but for my girlfriend. So basically yeah most things I do I do for other people, however in terms of time spent I'd say I do spend 50% of the time gaming.

Okay, simple question, is your BMI (body mass index) in the normal range for your height, weight and gender. Are you reasonably healthy?

If yes then give them the finger and keep up your normal routine, it works for you and it doesn't seem to be doing any harm.

If no, particularly if your BMI is below the normal range then get your ass to the doctor right away.

Simple.

No, now you have bulemia, your breath will stink, your tooth enamel will dissolve, you'll get stomach ulcers and you'll eventually die. Lousy advice. Proud of yourself for suggesting someone commit long and painful suicide feather240? You're an asshat.

It's the internet, and is an obvious joke.

I'm sort of the opposite. I eat when I'm hungry.

Which is about every 2 hours or so.

I'm honestly surprised I'm not Obese.
