I was going to go with "an ocean of urine." Got lots of good stuff floating in it, but wear gloves when reaching.

OT: The Internet gave everyone a voice. This includes the brilliant and the stupid, the stable and the psychotic, the kind folk and the jerkbags. The Internet also gave everyone anonymity and a degree of impunity. This tends to encourage the stupids, psychos, and jerkbags to mouth off in the mistaken assumption that their ignorance and hatred is just as valid as others' wisdom and temperance.

No game can be released without somebody claiming that game is ruining the industry. Someone else will praise the same game as the Second Coming. Opinions vary, and we all have to deal with opinions we don't like.

Well, if you for example don't like, let's say broccoli, you don't need to eat it. The same goes for Internet, just take it with a pinch of salt and continue browsing on the internet.

Social networking has seen the death of professionalism, respect among peers, and what little remained of common decency.
Social Networking is a victim, not the problem.

People partake in social networking through "personal" means, and often from "private" areas. Such as on their own phone, and in their own homes, this means people let their guard down.

Social Networking also allows for an unparalleled ability to share one's life with one's friends. People who have always wanted to, but never could, were kept in check by reality itself, now they have been unleashed on the internet.

Our generation is shaping the internet, and will be the ones to define proper etiquette in the future. There are rules that we never needed before, that need to be written down. We will have to write it, and we will have to enforce it. We will have to encourage others to enforce it.

For the most part, I agree with you. that is about how I feel about the current internet.
Pardon me, let me rephrase that: I hate what has happened as a result of social networking.

I love the internet. It gives me a place to kill time when I'm bored.

Wait. What kind of cookies?
Peanut Butter with a Hersey Kiss on top.

Also, after its destroyed, we should reshape it.
I vote we rebuild with 100% less fanboys!

Also: What the hell!? Etrian Odyssey 4 looks awesome.
Sadly I never played any of these (and I don't have a 3DS) but what I looked up just now reminds me of a more animated "Class of Heroes" on PSP (which is awesome - but I wish they would export the PS3 sequel) or a more colourful version of the recent "Wizardry" game on the consoles.

So what is it about an old school dungeon crawler on the 3DS that is being claimed to be ruining the industry?
Ever since Rainfall, its become cool to bash people who like those games.

I'm starting to think it's not worth playing if I'm just gonna be harrased.
I live in a world where my choice of games are either ignored as niche or outright mocked.
I'm sure you remember the WRPG vs JRPG battles of 2010-2011 (glad those fights are mostly done). Though there has been this weird influx of PC fanboyism lately...

Either way, don't let anyone else deter you from playing the games that you enjoy.
It's their loss really.
I could say the same about Japanese and Magna RPG's which are fanatical also (because fanboy is a sexist and wrong word to describe it). People in glass houses shoudn't throw stones

Wait, what? How could an new release in an obscure as hell, super-hard JRPG series for portable consoles be ruining the industry? I mean, to ruin the industry, wouldn't it first need to actually have an effect on it? What is this, I don't even...

OT: I hate the internet... Sometimes. It gives me nice things and also gives me pain. We got a love-hate relationship going, the internet and me. We frequently fight and insult each other, but then immediately make up. :p
Cause we buy it, you're letting the Rainfall people win and that should never happen. Plus, you buy any game from Japan(espesially if you had to campain for it.) you're entitled, whiny and don't deserve to play games.

Go on Kotaku, Destructoid, Joystiq practically anywhere and those comments(with Kotaku you'll see it in the article itself) flood the site
Well 1: I don't even know why letting those who support Project Rainfall win would be a bad thing (more games, what is wrong with that?), 2: This game was not even part of P:R, as far as I know, and 3: Wow, those are really crappy, stupid arguments. :\ At least you have here, though, amirite? :D
I think it's cause anyone who likes them shouldn't be allowed to cause they should only play the games that everyone else wants them to. Wanna play Soul Hackers in english? Nope, you're entitled, go play CoD. Some journalists are even getting in on the attitude.

*going on a tangent here*You see I'm also that guy, the guy whos likes/dislikes is always wrong and has to be proven wrong, I could say I like Dishonored(haven't played it yet, moving right now) and instantly no one will like it just cause I do

I've grown to hate the internet because of all the memes, image macros, and passive-aggressive, self-entitled, fanatical teenagers, m'self.

The comments section of anything ever just makes it worse.

The internet didn't make these comments, people did.

Links or it didn't happen.

Also, no. We're trying to prevent the GOVERNMENT from destroying the internet. If you have problems with the PEOPLE, hurt them instead!

Every problem has its right and proper solution.

Please don't destroy it, I rely quite heavily on the internet for research (what with it being the greatest repository of human knowledge in history and all).

I played Etrian Odyssey 3.
Didn't care for it, but it's not "ruining the industry".

The Internet is like real life. Most everything is shit. There's nothing you can do about it, anyone with a computer and an internet connection is instantly a part of "The Internet" and no matter where you go there's going to be stupidity, insensitivity, offensiveness, as much as there'll be intelligence, forwardness, quality.

But yes. You can't expect anything good from the internet unless you expect that same good from humanity as a whole. And no-one is that casually optimistic.

Heres a few:

"Someone has to re-release garbage from the past or no one else will. It's ambitious enough to just keep doing that. There's no reason for them to challenge the big players when everyone else and their mother already are. Also, you're overselling the Persona team.

For the record, I do like the idea of ditching the whiny, entitled core fanbase, but it's all they have. They are the majority of Atlus' customers, so to do that would be to ditch their lifeblood."

"This franchise is garbage. It still remains a big mystery as to why Atlus haven't ditched their failure franchise such as Trauma, Etrian, the main MegaTen franchise (Strange Journey only got a 6 on Gamespot and didn't get inducted into Gamasutra's Top 5 Handheld Games Of 2010.

It's high time for Atlus to take the next ambitious step, ditch their whiny, entitled core fan base, stop acting like a small-time developer, and challenge Valve and Nintendo for supremacy. Stop re-releasing garbage from the past and make new HD games by the Persona team."

A few of the people who makes posts like those also send harrasing PM to people that like them.

I love the internet. The real world is a scary place filled with endless reading and social interactions that are hard to judge. The internet, however, is a place filled with cat gifs, people using rage comics as diaries and young men who unironicly like watching multicoloured ponies.

I love the internet beyond belief. Somewhere there is someone for you out here in the net, somewhere for you to chill out. Be you Bronie, Nazi, Queer, Gamer, Politician, Faux Internet Intellectual, Blogger, Moron, Homophobe, Twatbungler, *insert what you are here*, there is a place built just for you.

And yes, I fully admit that a lot of people online are assholes. Perhaps even the majority. That is why I stay on sites like this, where most people seem "Pretty Ok" and those that sound be avoided, what with their tendencies to dribble and spew homophobic or racist bullcrap, seem to isolate themselves to R&P, with occasional forrays out into Off Topic or Gaming discussion.

Cause it is just the same in the real world. But online you can ignore people with more ease. Yes, the internet seems to bring out the worst in people. But if you find out that a community is filled with morons (Say, the current state of Rage comments on Reddit) you can just avoid it forevermore. Wheras in reality if you find out your co-worker is an insane amateur taxidermist or that someone in your Sociology and Politics lecture is actually a Homophobic Nazi (Known by me and my mates as "Crazy Nazi Man". The Taxidermist thing never happened to me. I wish I could say the same about Crazy Nazi Man.) you cannot avoid them, you might have to work with them, day in, day out, knowing that you are forced into the closet out of fear that he might follow you home and suffocate you with a plastic bag (Seriously, he chased me down to "Discuss Politics" when he found out I was a Marxist, the man would kill me if he found out I was a queer who grew up in a desert and hates the Monarchy.).

TLDR;

DON'T KILL THE INTERNET. I LOVE IT HERE. ITS BETTER THAN REAL LIFE. THE NAZIS CANNOT FOLLOW YOU HOME.

Wow, I thought nobody was dumb enough to actually complain about Atlus, other than about how some of their games are hard (to some). So, in short, he's a dumbass and he's trashing the work of the people whose games I love. Okay, I'm glad we cleared that up. What a stupid bastard...

When those few comments you mention are less than 15% of the total comments, with a majority expressing their excitement and the rest questioning the six paragraphs justifying a font, I think you may be overreacting.

EDIT: Also, this is the internet. No matter where you go, you should expect some hateful comments every now and then just because you're on the internet.

Agreed. I'm curious as how on EARTH a game like this is "ruining the industry." I'm more inclined to think that your average (I say average, not all) AAA game is the more likely culprit, what with all the stagnancy in it and whatnot.

You could say the same for the real world as well.

Debate with these people and see who is right or wrong. Otherwise, just ignore them and find forum with only love. Or stop being so sensitive.
