That said, I'm looking to emigrate (I hear New Zealand is nice) when I get enough experience, savings, and an international connection, so
I do admit it sounds enticing, part of the reason for looking at NZ is being able to be in proximity to mountains, shoreline, and nature. That said, Cali is kinda fucked up on a state level, and wild fires is just one part of that.
Texas gets a bad rep due to rural areas outnumering major cities. If you live in big cities, it is fairly liberal and people are generally nice.

Cities like Austin, sure I love Austin, great people there... I have no desire to go back to Houston ever again however. Madness..
