I pray that would never happen but this would seriously destroy the internet; no longer would it be a bastion of fun free-ware or decent, uncensored discussion.

There may be some...it's a long shot but...it just might work.

Barbara! Get me...4chan!
Internet terrorists or not, 4chan's anonymous may very well be our only hope against this blatant infringement of democracy and whatnot. So I say now, "Please anonymous, you have just as much to lose as we do! Please help us stop this madness."

It just might work? Man, it must work! It's our only shot!
/b/rother I heard your call.... Please msg the guy who posted that.

This is for the internet... this is 4 /b/.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Newfags, Oldfags, Allfags <- Get in here.

OK guys, well it has come to my attention that without proper action, /b/ will be no more. Googling a few things, and making acta searches reach the top of the list wont do shit.

The legislation is slowly and surely being pushed through the courts, and in about a month or so - /b/ and every other pirate haven will become history.

Dont believe me? Search "News: ACTA" on Google.

My Plan /b/:

Well basically there is an island, just off the coast of the UK. It was sold for approximately £500,000 a few years ago, and it falls outside of the UK's juisdiction.

If /b/ raised enough money, we could either: buy the island or get in touch with the owners, and pay to host servers, communications, satellites etc on there.

Then we would encrypt the communications using IPSEC or encrypted WAN protocols to allow all users to communicate safely, while still using the infrastructure of the normal internet.

As it is outside of the jurisdiction of the UK, it would not be subject to UK Laws and therefore falls within international waters -> thus it is free from all global laws.

Ah forget you guys, thats my point - greed is what will hold you back from actually protecting what you love.

You talk about freedom, and yet you're not willing to pay for it.

If /b/'s 9 million unique hits donated just 1 dollar to the cause, then a free environment could be had to protection information freedom forever.

Nothing will ever change if you give in to loathing and greed

We would need to create a charitable organisation - therefore the moneys and records would be there for all to see, and plus if you fucked with /b/ you would be fucking with your life.

Multiple ways to donate e.g. paypal, etc - and it would be through a registered charity,

E.g. Information Freedom Association

These governments couldnt do shit to stop us, and it would be protected by using their own infrastructure against them

Im not trolling, I believe in Information Freedom.

I believe this is one sure way to be able to protect the internet. I am not talking about buying - thats a last step resort, hopefully renting would suffice.

I have provided the idea /b/ and if anyone is SRS about this, and thinks its a good idea - please add "Joe Anonamous" on facebook, and we will discuss these matters further.

Think about it though guys, donating $1 per person, and information freedom will be protected for the foreseeable future.

You can trust an independent charity, a charity would be set up and independent auditors for the accounts.

Srsly tho, who would want to fuck with /b/? Not Me.

Okay guys well the idea is there, this is not a personal army or personal money request - but I study MSc Information Security at a university within the UK and it is the only way I can see us getting around anything like this in the future.

Do what you want with the idea /b/

Yes its not an island, its classed as an Island. Its a HM FORT - if you look at it, it would definitely take servers & communications equipment etc.

Its up to you guys - I think also, if any money was received and was never used - it would obviously be refunded.

It could work, and if you like the idea please put it forward to them at Sealand - and see if you get a response.

What Im saying to anybody here is that, the idea is to be shared - thus the reason why I am posting it now.

If I wanted 2 profit, I would not tell any of you.
If anybody wants to do this - feel free to claim it as your own idea. I am just happy to see that information freedoms are protected.

Subject: Anti Counterfeiting Trade Agreement affecting countries globally around the world

Dear Sir/ Madam,

A new range of draft proposals that affect Australia, Canada, the European Union and its 27 member states, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Switzerland and the United States[1] come into effect later at the end of the current year (2010). Therefore these proposals do not affect Sealand; and thus for the reason why I am endeavouring to communicate with you.

It has been the main concern of many people I globally communicate with that these actions are both unlawful and unconstitutional to the citizens of the countries that are involved. They are oppressive laws aimed at removing the rights and freedoms of information sharing of individuals, which are curtailed in seemingly innocuous legal jargon.

Many global users of the internet have voiced their opinion that these laws should not be passed and there are currently petitions against this treaty from being allowed to pass. It is a continued effort to enforce global internet censorship under the guise of copyright protection.

The only place truly free in the world is the sea or international waters. Thus, it is now possibly that because of being left out of the international treaty, a legal loophole has appeared relating to Sealand. All I am personally asking for is that you review my request, to establish a haven for the freedom of information and free speech upon the principality of Sealand.

Therefore what I propose is that an international relief fund is made to increase the quality of life of its inhabitants and the continued development of the island's economic and social growth. This would also be accompanied by request that part of the island/ fort host approximately 5 - 10 servers initially, to cope with a small networks demands which may be subject to growth in future.

The relief fund would also endeavour to connect Sealand via Fibre-optic cabling or similar sort of similar broadband infrastructure to the rest of the United Kingdom. Please get in contact with me via this electronic address, many thanks and I appreciate the fact that you took the time to read this. I will also be forwarding this information on to the Pirate Bay, to see whether they are interested in supporting the international aid cause.

Kind Regards,

********** *********

Please re-post the message to both the pirate bay's contact page, and sealand's. You want to save the internet? Then get these 2 to work together!

Uhhh... Just a rhetorical question... Is using Miro to download movies against this "ACTA" thing?

I still think it's a lot of sound and fury. As I've said before, it's Draconian, it's completely unenforceable, and most importantly, it would cost ISPs everywhere millions in lost customers. There's simply no way it'll amount to anything.

You know, its funny.

Eternal September is a term coined on usenet when the aol floodgates opened. Massive influx of millions of fuckwits to a, before then, relatively quiet and polite medium. The fact its also going to end (along with the rest of the internet, as it currently exists) in September is quite poetic.

Clarification: due to how all information technology (IT) has to work, web browsing violates ACTA. In order to view anything on the internet, you must download/copy it. Since neither you or your ISP has rights to copy even whats hosted on the escapist's servers, both you and your ISP are in violation.

What? You think Bush or McCain wouldn't have gone for this shit?

It's not about any one politician. It's about America slowly becoming a corporate dictatorship because you need about $180 billion to run for congress.

No it does not. The UK is not in the EU. They are still on the pound my man.

Oh, and it is not just America that is doing this. There are LOTS of European and Asian groups involved in this as it is an international secret treaty to fuck over the people of the world.
We are in the EU. We choose to use the pound.

Right, and until we change how our government representatives are elected in the first place, we'll always have someone who's willing to go along with whoever is holding the purse strings. That's not you or I, I can tell you that much.

Yeah, Bush was in on this too. At the very least, he insisted that it be a secret treaty for the same reasons Obama is trying to keep it under the table now. You don't keep secrets like that if you don't plan on doing anything with them.

I can't see this realistically gettingthrough, for one thing it breaches our human rights.
Secondly there is already so much protest for it already it will not get through. This is just a scare campaign so people will fear the power of the USA

Regarding the reliability of the site...

This is a well known issue, It's literally all over the place.

I don't understand how so many people can brush things off like this and pretend it's not happening.

You guys know you have to do more than complain on the internet right?

If you want to change government policy, you actually need to get away from in front of your computers and TVs and out to protest visibly

>My face when gamers can't even make a boycott stick.
