But seriously, perhaps a partial solution to some issues could be a relaxation of the discussion value points of the CoC just in the off topic section. That could open the way for some of the fun posting that occurred in the WW. Although I reckon people will hate this idea. Just brainstorming.
March 2012? *check dates*. ME3 happened then. Star child broke the site. #GGdidnothingwrong
The Escapist picked the red ending.
I think I honestly have worse memories of the ME3 wars. Most of what I can remember about Gamergate at this point is confusion as to why it was a thing. And that one of the posters here, a former acquaintance, became a z-list internet celeb in some circles because of it.

I never saw things from this perspective. I'm definitely going to think about it. It's enlightening.

Thank you.
Considering how often people complained about this very thing, I'm surprised it was missed. But, sometimes it takes a simple wording change to make something click into place. Happens with me a lot. With this perspective found, and as Gethsemani explained with the R&P topic... Do the mods have any plans to tackle this issue, both in terms of the way users try and skirt rules as best as they can, as well as dealing with the problem users that are specifically here to create trouble? (And by Gethsemani's wording, it sounds like they know exactly who these people are) Bit of a big question, but I wouldn't mind some insight!

Good job hammering the final nail in the Escapist's coffin. Defy fucked us over, but the mods in this forgotten place are wbat sealed the deal.

A site with moderation so strict yet so passive aggressive people can shit on 18 generations of your family as long as they disguise their post with a thin veil of "politeness", but you get an immediate warning and suspension if you called that person a "fucking ****" like you would in real life if some dipshit was being nonstop passive-aggressive at you, then introduces a forum with no moderation, and gets surprised shit like this happens?

The moderation might not have been the disease that killed this website, but was the rot that ensured it couldn't recover. A pity to see the volunteers left behind squatting like all of us keep propagating the mistakes of those who came prior. You think getting rid of the wild west will make a difference? The people are still the same, the insults and feelings are still the same. You still have to "live in the same house" so to say, you just made the living situation a lot shittier.

Gamergate was a culmination of things - Sarkessian being an example beforehand. It went much longer before 2014 than most take account of.

Some Mods' tempers are on short leashes due to posters' rampant passive aggressiveness.
Not trying to add to the mod pile on or anything but surely you can see the irony in saying something like this when people have been saying that same thing for years regarding certain posters. Until off course they lose that short leashed temper and get banned while the one being passive aggressive gets off scot free.

Case in point, Inu-Kun.

And then you get rid of the one place we can call these pricks what they are without playing their little game and they get to continue doing what they've always done just because the mods happen to like those particular posters.

Boo.

This isn't Kindergarten. We strive to make things fair for all folks.

To cry "Foul!" and behave wrongly directly stating that others' misbehavior serves as an excuse for doing so fails to persuade me.

"I am an adult!"

This we take as given.

"I cry tears like a child because someone was mean to me."

This, too, we attend to.

"Someone was mean to me so I broke the rules and now others suggest I shouldn't be found responsible for my personal, very own behavior/response."

....

No.

Period.

No.

Take responsibility for yourself. Period.

I wasn't referring to myself with any of that, more the general vibe of the forums.

What about the rest of my post? You just going to ignore like you ignore the behaviors of certain users?

Period.

Edit: Oh god, I can't believe missed that "off course" typo. I'm actually embarrassed at myself right now.

Hard to reconcile when the current status quo involves calling someone a jerk, or saying they're behaving like a jerk is guaranteed to earn you a mod strike.

I will say that it seems fitting BreakfastMan gets the last post, in the last thread, that was started by him, bagging Zontar.

It seems like an appropriate end if there was to be one to the subforum, regardless of whether you care or not, or agree or not, whether it should have been shut down. Appreciate the idea that forever will it remain on the internet. Archived long after the digital sands of time bury the site deep in the proverbial soil of the internet.

That there was a forum dedicated to shitposting, and it ended in such magnificent style of calling someone an incel on the internet, as the 21 gun salute to such evocative and meaningless discourse.

It's kind of tragically beautiful...

The behaviour of the mods in this thread would fit well in the Wild West. It's actually disgusting.
I'm reading their comments and they haven't called anyone a fag or told them to drink bleach, so from the looks of it they're infinitely better than anything that happened in the ol' dead never coming back Wild West

I didn't even start that thread, though... nor did I start the trend of Zontar call-out threads... My last post wasn't even really a good one. :\

So, your idea of dealing with a complaint is to call somebody a kindergartener, and strawman them to seem like an irresponsible idiot whilst ignoring the main portion of their post.

... Weren't you just complaining about passive aggressiveness of users?

Holy crap, for some reason I thought it was your callout thread. Hrm... you ruined it. You ruined the moment for me.

I don't have to post in the WW to be able to read it.

Yes. On a site that declining more and more each day the best thing to do is to remove a subforum that some of the few remaining people would mostly post in.

God forbid you could just not give any attention to it at all if you dislike it so much.
