what is a good number to use for when I lie and say i'm smart?
42, its always 42. Remember that for next time.
And when they ask how you got a 42, you just say "Six times seven... DUH!" and then stand there and look smug.
I love HGG Inside jokes.

Dude, use the search bar. I made a thread like this not too long ago.

OT though, I hate the IQ test. It's absolutely irrelivent. Shakira, Madonna, Bill Gates and Stephan Hawking all have the same IQ. That completely discredits it for me.

thats funny, cuz "mensa" basically means stupid in spanish
Mensa also means "table" in latin, which is where the name comes from. It's because we're a "round-table" organization.

Your source, please? Stephen Hawking has never taken an IQ test. His IQ has been estimated to around 160 (Wechsler), though. And after some quick googling, the only number I found for Shakira was 140 - without a scale specified.

But even if it were true, I still don't see why it would discredit the measurement of IQ. Noone has ever claimed that a high IQ guarantees revolutionary discoveries. Nor have anyone claimed a low IQ prevents it. The only thing that's been said (and proven) is that statistically, a high IQ corelates with professional and intellectual achievement. Having a number for your IQ only gives you a general idea of your starting conditions. It is not a guarantee.

Let me put it this way... Just because you have a million dollars, it doesn't mean that you are invariably going to buy a million dollar house. Much more likely, you're going to live out your life without spending a good part of that money. And even if you do spend every cent of it, then you're still more likely to buy a thousand little things than one gigantic house.

Just like you're more likely to be somewhat successful in a large number of areas than you are to revolutionize one area. It's a bad similie, I know. But it was the best I could think of right away.

I'm not quite sure if that exactly was the question, but anyways, the IQ test only tells you what your IQ is, not more, and not less. It doesn't tell you how smart or whatever you are.

My IQ test result was 129, which can't be really true, because see... (I think it's not the correct word for it, in that context...) I just stood down for a year at school. I am only 15, btw...

They're dumb. I've taken a couple due to boredom

I've gotten

120ish
1110ish
140ish
90ish
180ish
190ish

You can see why the tests are irrelevant

Regardless of how accurate IQ tests are, it should be worth note that anyone who tells you their IQ can be assumed to be very irritating.

If you're smart, people will notice. Having to *tell* people you're smart... That's not good.
