I've taken several internet IQ tests. My score has ranged from 126 to 147. I'm pretty sure it's all bogus though.

They're absolute crap. I've taken "official" tests before and according to them I am a solid genius. Which isn't true, of course.

We've already got 2 people claiming to be over 140, so I think its fair to say were already well on our way to that.

edit: Scratch that 3.
I noticed. And I also noticed that none of them identified the marking, so I guess they all took them on the internet and think it means something.

Kind of like those how much should I earn quiz's. Noone wants to see that their job is only worth 10,000 a year, so they boost them up.

Edit: Except one guy a few posts up. At least he mentions what type of test it was.

Anyway pretty sure I answered the OP's question with my first post.

Very true.

Either they're ridiculously high or unreasonably low.

Take myself for example. I consider myself to be intelligent and lots of people (including many here) would agree, yet on 2 of the 5 IQ tests I've taken, I've only scored 105 or 100, yet the other times, it's ranged from 140 - 170

It's complete and utter bullshit.

Actual (as in, psychologist-administered) IQ tests do tend to predict academic performance, but are not correlated with lifetime career success.

138, but I was like 5 at the time, so it doesn't really count (Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children, if you're interested).

I took the Stanford-Binet once, in fifth grade. They were trying to put me in a special needs class. I scored a 142. Take from that what you will.

'pologies.

Only IQ test I've done was a shoddy online one, and I got it 100% right. Then it said I was 138. Odd, seeing as the test implies that 138 is the highest possible IQ. But I don't believe that crap for a second.

IQ tests scale differently. Depending on which test you choose to do (only counting proper tests), you can gain an extra 15-20 IQ points, while not responding to the test any differently. That makes them extremely flawed.

I'm planning on doing a Mensa one. I am gifted, and when we did the National scaling test thing at school, I came first in my year, which I was extremely proud of. It didn't test knowledge or anything, just comprehension stuff. Basically like an IQ test.

But be wary of accepting any IQ test results as fact.

I'm pretty sure I took one on the internet a few years back (When I was 13) and I got around 135. IQ tests, especially the ones on the internet, are pretty much a joke. Still a good stat to know however.

Yes and I've determined that IQ tests are bullshit.

All they do is tell you how good you are at taking IQ tests. That's it.
Biased, but not bullshit.

There are many different tests that have been modified over the years, trying to avoid this bias, and to measure both fluid and crystallized intelligence. Though that's not to say they fully succeeded...

OT - I've never taken an IQ test, but I've been very keen to do so as of a few months ago. I'd especially like to take one every several years to see whether or not my score increases.

God I hope this doesn't turn into another IQ pissing match and if it does I hope you all have the brains to tell us which test you took, otherwise they're just random numbers.

Look up mensa on the web, find an office in your city or near by and call them. There is no chance of doing it over the web - they're BS every time (even if they are accurate).

Be prepared to outlay a few $$ for the test.
Silence you will bow before my 3591 point IQ or I will force you to bow using my MIND. OOOOoooOOOO

I took one when I was 6th grade, and it was done by a professional, not an internet quiz. I got a 120, which is midway between genius and average. But that was 6 years ago, I don't know what it is now.

I took the Weschler when I was 16, and ended up with a score of 160... I'm not sure exactly what that means but woo.

I did an IQ test when I was drafted for the army. It gave you a grade from 1 to 9, with 4 being the absolute minimum to be allowed to serve, and 6 being average. I scored a 9. Yay me. Honestly though, I don't feel that it matters so much, what really matters is how you use what you have.
(Also, I claimed conscientious objection.)

I scored a 125 in 1st grade, I think they were trying to determine whether I was "gifted." It doesn't matter much to me, I don't need a test to tell me I'm smarter than the people around me.

I took an IQ test once. (Yes, a real one. Administered by a professional.) And got a 128.

They're bullshit. Why? Because while 120 is well above average and a perfectly reasonable example of my general intelligence.... anyone can change it simply by the use of personal opinion.

See, I've got a few learning disabilities. No, not the obvious ones you hear about all the time. I don't have dyslexia or AD(H)D. I have really obscure ones like CAPD and some visual ones that don't even have names. Therefore, anyone with some sort of credential in whichever field can administer such tests can make the outcome whatever the hell they want. So, keeping that in mind, I was told that getting a score that high is 'not possible', and they lowered it to a 102.

Yay.

Edit: Further proof (and I'm not trying to be better than anyone/be a smartass dick.)-- in my public school (with almost 5000 students) I tend to score within at least the top tenth percentile of the entire school of every comprehension and skill-based test they've thrown at me.

I usually score about 130ish on IQ tests. Granted, I don't recall every taking a particularly comprehensive one. What's more, I agree with many, many, many critics [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iq_test#Criticism_and_views] when I say that the concept behind the IQ test is fundamentally flawed.

True story. And for more reasons than one.

I've seen IQ-threads galore. Apparently, 60% of the human population online has an IQ of 133 or greater, with many people hitting the level of philosophical luminaries.

I mean...gimme a break.....

~

The only 'accurate' IQ tests are those that are administered at a very young age by a professional. And even in that case, modern-psychologists are incredibly skeptical of this value as an intelligence reading.
So far everyone has said above 120-145.
i would be inclined to agree with you.
