hahahahahah, i'm sorry, that made me laugh.

If there even IS then he is not a kind god, every atrocity known to man has been perpurtrated in the bible by god, in the Old Testament, anyway. But to me, the thought of us trying to comprehend a god is like a penguin trying to comprehend nuclear physics.

Depends. Either God is not all knowing, or not all mighty or not good, because he/she can't be all at the same time.

If God cared, he would have done something.
If he exists, he enjoys the biggest possible reality TV show we can imagine.
If he doesn't exists, like I think, clergy better start doing something than scamming people's money.

And FYI, the world won't end on December 21st 2012, if anyone bothered to pay attention, they'd see the Mayan calender doesn't end. It's a circle, so it just -starts over-. It also never mentions an end, it mentions a "time of change", whatever the hell that means. Anyway, if the world did end, I'll pull up a chair, some popcorn, and enjoy seeing suckers die and try to avoid the inevitable armageddon. Otherwise my day will be normal.

A kind god would let people live their lives, not make them worship him and stop doing exciting things just so they don't go to hell.

Dude made a flood, tricked an old man to almost kill his son, banished people, got a fish to eat a dude. Yeah God is just made of love and fuzzy hugs
You really think that's the worst thing he has done?

Egyptian plagues, attacking even innocent ones, then he forced people he "saved" to wander the desert for 40 years, turned a city into salt and he's still going to kill most of us and damn to Hell for eternity.

Uhm. What? He doesn't force you to do anything. You want to get into his heaven, work for it. Confession twice a year, an hour in church every week and the 10 commandments.

I wouldn't count on doing the first two, but hey, as long as I don't kill anyone...

Seriously though, to get into heaven, according to new-age Christianity (you know, in Europe), you just have to be a good person. Help out someone, don't harm people and so on. If that's too hard, nobody will convice you it's worth doing.

Well... if that weird "Holy Trinity" thing is true, than after all Jesus = God. An Jesus was definitely kind. The stuff he teaches and believes in are good and true. So yeah, I'd say god is kind.

Or kind/neutral.

Im not very religious but i do feel the ideologies of christianity are a good guide to life i.e. thou shall not kill etc.

If God was there, why not help us but then again why would you if you could watch the greatest reality show of all time for the next quadrillion years

These threads should not exist.

To answer your question...

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able, and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?
Free will.

If he prevented bad people from doing bad things, then he'd be enslaving them.

Why do you support slavers? Do you enjoy watching slaves powered with a whip?

Finally, someone noticed that God is a Buddhist. I mean, look at that theodicy thing. He wanted a lot of good and some small evil rather than little good and no evil. Everything is in balance.

aaah.

Well... the Bible was written by human beings (probably fanatic ones) so it isn't necessarily true.

Yes He is, but the world is a corrupt world and man a corrupt creature, and free will cannot be interferred with. In addition, adversity is a good thing, as it allows one to prove their devotion and rely on God's power. In addition, suffering allows the practice of the virtues of charity, grace, and mercy.

The Egyptian plagues were a justified punishment of the Egyptians and a crushing of their gods. Innocent ones? Pray tell who are these innocent ones, for I have not heard of such people on this Earth. And the 40 years was punishment for their continued disobedience and disbelief. When did he turn a city to salt? And every man, woman child on this Earth deserves Hell, for all sin and cannot enter the oresence of God on their own, and Hell is merely the fulfillment of the sinners desire to leave God. Could such a person enjoy heaven?

Damn right. Who the fuck would want anything to do with the kind of sadistic fuck of a god who would come up with something like hell?
