As most people on this site are gamers who expand their horizons from the mere run-shoot-teabag reflex of most gamers, I am sure all of you have watched at least one machinima at some point. During the time of my viewing of it, I have seen it rise from its' simple standing from the first episode of redvsblue, due the multi-platform, fast-spreading phenomina it is today, but my question is, do we really think that this is the way entertainment is going? Is it really as good as it is hailed to be now? And if you think it is, what kind do you like?

Machinisma won't be overrated until it reaches the level where they reenact Hamlet in front of a live multiplayer lobby.

I'm dead serious by the way.

i think the problem is that once a few of them, such as red vs blue (and i can't think of any others), were insanely successful, everybody thought they could do it too, and now its like the Monster.com commercial were everybody is playing tennis. Aside from red vs blue, which is kinda going down hill now that they are trying to have a plot (loved the fire safety PSA though) they are all total garbage.

Go watch a piece of EVE Online Machinima called Clear Skies and (especially) Clear Skies 2 and ask me again.

That stuff is better than Star Wars: Episode I.

I never really got RedvsBlue. But I do think they're interesting it like fan-fiction but a movie instead of a badly written story (I'm guilty there).

They are about right to me. I don't watch enough of it to know the crap stuff, but I don't really think nor have I seen anyone praise machinima outside of a video of one in a long time.

I love good machinima, go watch "Divided Soul" and "Blind, the craft of war". Two WoW machinimas executed absolutely perfectly. Also time gnomes is hihihihilarious! Though then we get bad ones which are just frequent rip offs of Freeman's Mind, or peoples gameplay without commentary. Like life, Machinima is has some good, some bad, and barely any middle ground.

machinima covers all those people, all of whom I've watched their stuff. They are the best the genre has to offer really, and the youtube channel is more for a way for directors to get their name out. I agree with you though it is majoritorly gratuitous on the channel though

Well, it all depends on which one.

Frankly, The Leet World was one of my favorite things about the internet when it was still being made (Season 2 was the last, unfortunately.)

I think that's a good way of looking at it, many of the ones I have seen were very lackluster

well ever since Machinima started cutting random stuff out, its all gone to shit. Many people who have a talent for creating machinima type videos don't want to work for them, and their videos are amazing. Example would be djy1991, he creates Gmod vids and is very talented. He hasnt made one in a while but I hope he comes out with a new video soon.

I quite liked Strangerhood.

If you're talking about Machinima the website, then I can't be sure.

If you're talking about machinima, the practise of making films (or comics) using videogames, I don't think it prudent to declare an entire medium overrated. It's a very young artform with plenty of potential.
