Is there a dev company whose games you will play, no questions asked?

Good Ol' Naughty Dog
That is about the only one I can think of. I don't know for how long but for now, they have it.

Generally speaking, no. However, I can't deny Naughty Dog has me captivated for now.

Obsidian always make RPGs I like playing. I haven't played Dungeon Siege III, but then again it isn't a game that is particularly attractive to me.
Careful with that one, it isn't like most of their other stuff. They have an interesting "loot effects stats, levels effect skills" mechanic in it. But overall, it is a very bland Obsidian experience.

None. Bioware and Bethesda are probably the closest, but I ALWAYS check out every game I ever intend to purchase thoroughly long before I buy it, and if I can rent it first, I do. As a result, I have never once in my life bought a game that I do not like, ever.

I just finished my second play-through of inFamous 2 (yes, I know it's been out for months, I had to rent it since I don't have much money), and it's made me realize I'd probably play, if not buy when I can afford it, any Sucker Punch game. I own a copy of the Sly collection, I got a copy of inFamous after the PSN hack, and I am going to buy inFamous 2 as soon as I can.

I would say Valve but I'm not into multi-player that much. This doesn't mean much as I generally get most of Valve's games anyway due to Steam Sales and promos.

Bioware WAS on that list but after the debacle that was Dragon Age 2 (repeating dungeons, really?) plus potential possible Origin infection... Let's just say Mass Effect 3 better be good.

Actually there wasn't really a company I would automatically buy from apart from Bioware, and after being burnt like that I doubt there ever will be.

As a kneejerk reaction I would say no. Mostly because I don't think the gaming industry is driven by an auteur movement and as such there is really no reason two games from the same developer would have to interest me seeing as they are not actually products of a unified force of self-expression but more like formulaic production line releases.

So then if I make an effort I suppose I can come up with a few auteur names (Hideo Kojima isn't among these): Team Ico who are in development hell apparently, Suda 51 who did not really deliver with the second part of No More Heroes, Double Fine who I don't really care about, Silent Hill Team who disbanded and that's about it. So, joy, I don't have to retract anything I said. Auteur game development are all but a myth.

I do however pick up anything released by Terry Cavanagh, Stephen Lavelle and a few other independant developers. However, that is probably because they are so cheap, not because I can count on quality.
If I may be blunt, what the hell does a developer being "auteur" have to do with whether or not you'd buy it with no questions asked? People who do it "for the art" are just as capable of making a shitty game as anyone. They're arguably more so, as they're more likely not doing it for the sake of the game, thus causing the game itself to potentially suffer.

I don't think there are any developers whose games I would buy without hesitation.

The closest is probably Valve, given I pre-ordered Portal 2 for $45, which was the only single game I've paid more than $30 for in the last five years.

No.

Simply because not every game a given developer makes is going to be to my tastes, regardless of quality.

Quick example: I like me some Bioware, but I have no intention of buy Old Republic because I'm not interested in MMOs or Star Wars.

The Insomniac guys had my vote until they kicked the Ratchet & Clank series in the nuts by basing the new game around four-man co-op bullshit.

I guess now I'm as jaded as everyone else.

Paradox Interactive. Not only because their games are great most of the time, but also because their community work ist just amazing. Even if they release a botched game, you can be sure their devs will be all over the forum answering every single question and churning out meaningful updates with all their might.

Nope, nothing at all. Even a dev I love will produce a game type I won't like, so I always read up on and find out about any titles I plan on buying. Usually this means two visits to a game shop to buy one game, or more recently two visits to a website to get it shipped in.

Oh that was a long time ago, there are still some franchises I will pick up blind but those are also getting very rare.
There is not one company that does everything right, no not even Valve, but I will pay more attention when reliable names are mentioned.

Nope. I would've said Square back in the day, but then they brought out XII and XIII.
I also would've said Bioware but then they released Dragon Age II.
So no, no dev is perfect.
