Thanks for the suggestions, and nice blog, i went through and read the rest of it too (except for the 'everything you know about anime is wrong' post... i already read that one on the escapistFireAza said:Well, Dokuro-chan is a comedy, but what you need is something more "sit-com" like I said.
And they don't get much more sit-com than Lucky Star the "Seinfeld" of anime (i.e it's a show about nothing). It's the day-to-day lives of a group of senior high school girls, one of whom is a massive geek. It finds humor in everyday situations (such as absent-mindedly turning the light off when you leave the room, despite there's still people using the room) that make you laugh because they've probably happened to you. Keep in mind, they changed directors after episode 4, so the first 4 episodes are not as good as the later ones.
Seitokai Yakuindomo is a great comedy too. I've done a review of it, so have a read [http://fireaza.blogspot.com/2012/01/okay-heres-another-post-from-escapist.html]. Suffice to say, it's very funny, and you're definitely better of watching the uncensored (well, as uncensored as they're allowed to be, they uncensor some of the dirty English words anyway) blu-ray version.
Genshiken, the greatest geek comedy bar none. Obviously, it's funnier if you know what's being referenced, and you know people like the characters in the show.
My Ordinary Life/Nichijou seemingly an ordinary comedy, save for the strong streak of absurdist humor that flows though the show. Such as the time the frail old school principal German suplexed a deer or the girl who has a crush on a guy, but tries to hide it with heavy weaponry. Rounding out the absurdity is the soundtrack: epic, high-quality classical music, because why not?
My Little Sister Can`t Be This Cute is probably the second greatest geek comedy. Despite the creepy-sounding title, it's actually poking fun at the ridiculous and unrealistic relationships depicted in semi-incest themed anime/games. Basic story is about a guy who discovers that the little sister he hasn't really talked to in years is actually a closet geek. Literally, she hides her hobby in her closet. Though her, he comes to understand geek culture, as well as his little sister a bit better. It's funny, well-animated and the characters have strong personalties.
Hetalia: Axis Powers - The history of the world, as portrayed by personifications of various countries. Naturally, each country is a stereotype of the country they represent (i.e Italy loves pasta, women and wine, but isn't near as good at war as his grandfather Rome was). Funny stuff if you know your history.
I've actually seen some of Hetalia at a friends place. I laughed at some of the stuff, and with a minimal knowledge of history it was half-informative half-amusing to see how they portrayed historical events and country interaction.
Though in all honesty it didn't grab me as something I would really get into on my own.
(I was more interested in the haruhi dvd we were watching before that.
Anyway, when I'm looking for a new anime I'll definitely check out your suggestions.
