Welshpool. Gate way to wales...its star attractions are a steam rail way, a cock fighting arena (unfortunetly closed down) and powys castel. It also has more super markets than it has space and more crarity shops than anywhere the simple face oxfam had to close down because of the compotition just confirms that.
It is known as the place I went past ones I think.
It is also known as a great source of cheap labour
And if a good place to grow up and die in, as for the rest of your life it is pritty shit.

Easier to link. *shrug*
Torrance, CA, home of BTVS and Chuck Norris' first dojo... Well, BTVS until we apparently decided to kick them out because they went bump in the night.

Sydney, Sydney, Sydney, where do I start.
-2000 Olympics (The Best)
-INXS
-Centrepoint Tower
-SCG
-One of the biggest Marti Gras in the world
-Mel Gibson
Just a few off the top of my head.

But more specifically my suburb is famous for Ian Thorpe (the swimmer, I went to the same primary school) and one of the worst bikie brawls in Australia.

Hong Kong. There's too much to say about Hong Kong.

(other than it's the only pocket of freedom in the tiny corner of a gigantic failing communist country that we're never afraid to criticize. Yes, UP YOURS, CHINA)

I just ripped this right from wikipedia:

"During the early 18th century, Mayfield became a centre for owling - smuggling wool for brandy and silk. Gabriel Tomkins was the leader of the local gang: in 1721 he was chased from Burwash to Nutley and then was arrested. The gang had a reputation for not using violence; and also applying their profits to the benefit of the local community, unlike many other such gangs: the Hawkhurst Gang in particular."

Pirates who tried not to use violence (according to some sources they only tied up anyone who tried to arrest them) and gave their earnings to the community? There's a movie idea in there somewhere. Robin Hood, but with pirates, awesome.

There's a tonne of other stuff connected with the history, but the smuggling is the most notable, the rest is pretty interesting, but nothing can top heroically charitable pirates.

My hometown is home to Britain's oldest telephone box still in use.

It still smells of piss though.

My town was home to a major battle in the English Civil War, a key location of the Peasants Revolt of 1381 and home town of the actor who played Barry off EastEnders

Portsmouth: "The second most densely populated city in Europe"
Also the home of the millennium tower travesty. For those of you who don't know, a tower was going to be built to commemorate the passing of the millennium. The problem is it was finished in 2006ish, and millions of pounds over budget. It also didn't really look all that nice either.

Ice Hockey. MoDo Hockey is practically religion back home. They've spawned a couple of internationally known players too, such as Peter Forsberg, Markus Näslund and the Sedin twins.
Combat vehicles.
And while not strictly specific to my hometown, the region is home to the culinary adventure that is surströmming, fermented herring.

...I miss home.

Of course. I was born here.

No, but seriously, one of the fathers of modern chemistry was born here, along with a relatively famous singer-songwriter.

The wizard of OZ was based upon my hometown, the US Navy began its aviation program there, one of the world's most elaborate hotels is there and it was once a playground for the rich and famous.

My hometown claims to having the oldest public library in the country. Of course, several towns make the same claim.

Penzance has a great big castle in the cove that can only be accessed when the tide is down, you can see it from anywhere in the cove. We also have great pasties.
