It's hurting your hand? Are you sure you just haven't been on the computer too much? Carpal Tunnel is a *****.

The 360 controller was good in theory, but in practice it doesn't work. It's where your thumb rests naturally when it's close to your hand, not where it has a central position to move in all directions.
Works most excellently for me. I love the design of the 360 controller. Can play for hours with no cramping. From day one, it felt natural to me. Must be in how you hold/use it. Or maybe you're just a smidge too small or too large for it...All I know is, after so much time with the 360 controller, I can't stand Sony's standard controllers. And there was a time when I thought the DS2 was the best thing ever...now, it feels tiny. And I notice extreme cramping in my wrists after just a couple hours, because of how I have to twist them slightly from neutral to get my index fingers on the shoulder buttons and my thumbs on the pads. Not so with the 360. Everything falls right into place. *FYI I'm actually fiddling with my controllers as I type this, to make sure I'm not making things up in my head*

Maybe I'm just "trained" for it now, But I still have far more years of PS/PS2 playing under my belt than 360 playing....who knows.
As someone who has very tiny hands, even among women, I'll just jump in and say I absolutely love the 360 controller, and have never had any problems with it because of the size of my hands.

I've had that problem too. It takes awhile for me to get adjusted, and even then it never feels quite right.

I laughed when I read that, because I've been sitting here doing the exact same thing.

I have no problems with the 360 controller, it feels perfect in my hands, I never feel any kind of pain after gaming for a long time. The PS3 controller just feels uncomfortable in my hands. I also still have my gamecube and I find really easy to switch between my 360 and gamecube because the controller layouts are pretty similar.

Edit:

No way it worked perfectly well for Geometry Wars, and that's practically a 360 staple.
My brother and I have geometry wars on our xbox 360 and neither of us have ever had any problems playing it with the xbox 360 controller.

Thank god! I'll take 10! I'm so sick of the retarded design of the 360 controller. Sure they wanted to do something to differentiate from the playstation controller, but there is a reason all PS controllers have been symmetrical. Just like there is a reason we don't build houses out of bread..
Tasty. Why don't we do that?

I remeber for the PS1 I found this cheap third part controller called the wing pad.

It was fucking immense.

Imagine a streamlined duke... That's what it was.... before the duke came along. ahah.

Sadly I've never come across one again. It was a magnificent pad in the days when pads were like McDonalds toys. Proper heavy, proper responsive. My mates couldn't fathom how I used it. They all use sony pads with no fuss.
One of my all time favorites was the Pelican N64 controller. It was FAT. Most N64 controllers were slim, no, this thing was monstrous. I barely needed to curl my fingers beyond relaxed.

Why would anyone want the stick where the pad is supposed to be? That would be horrible. It would be almost as uncomfortable as a Playstation controller!

I think that the PS3 controller is sleek, and the lined up sticks are alright. I grew up playing PS2 games, so I am used to the sony controllers, but I have played a lot of Xbox since i got it a few years back. The 360 controller fills out my hands better, the PS3 controller gives a sense of something not unlike nostalgia. I prefer the un-lined-up sticks on the 360, the PS3 configuration is good for platformers and action games.

why are people so obsessed with symmetrical analog sticks? i like the 360 controller just fine, and i have tried the ps3 ones too, they make no difference to me.

I have both a PS3 and 360, and have been leaning towards the PS3 controller after a while of preferring the 360's. However, I would much rather see a compromise:

PS3:
Make the damn thing bigger! Geeze...
Make the triggers more like the 360. I bought little clip-on things that help tremendously, but that shouldn't be necessary.

360:
Symmetrical Analog Sticks - After playing with both, the PS3 layout just makes more sense to have both sticks symmetrical.
Improve the D-pad!!!! This thing sucks for responsiveness, and I find that with the layout it is even harder to accurately hit it.

This is just my opinion on the ergonomics for the controllers, a lot of it though comes down to just using them enough to get the hang of how they feel. If you use one type exclusively, of course it's going to be completely awkward if you switch controller types.

Honestly I like the xbox controller the way it is, it fits my hands perfectly. The Play Station and Nintendo ones have always not been right for me, but I still would have a keyboard and mouse over a controller any day!
Im the same - The proportions of the 360 controller sits naturally in my hand, however, older (not old, just older, or used to older systems for long periods of time) would probably have gotten used to the symmetrical controller layout.

I prefer the 360 controller myself. The Playstation 3 controller barely has any weight. Whenever I hold it it feels like I'm holding some sort of cheap knockoff that I could break by simply moving the analog sticks. Oh, yeah, the analog sticks. I'm not really a fan of the "clumped together" design.

When it comes to the design of the 360 controller I LOVE the fact that the sticks are not near each other. The added weight gives the controller a comfortable feel and it generally feels better when being held. One criticism that I have of the controller is the material used on the sticks and the D-pad. The sticks look cheap when compared to the PS3 ones and don't even get me started on the D-pad.

Kinda off topic. But the 'RAT' on that website looks kinda good. Has anyone used one?
I second this inquiry.

Because then little children come along and try and eat your house, and you're forced to cook them instead. It becomes a huge mess.

I can see the thumbstick/d-pad switcheroo being useful for games in which you'd want to use a d-pad, such as a fighting game or a Tony Hawk game (that isn't Tony Hawk Ride).

Wow, am I the only one here who thinks this controller is not a bad idea besides the OP. I mean it let's you switch between the original Xbox 360 style and a PS3 type style. This lets people choose whichever style they want depending on their playing preference. I mean I'm okay with both styles but I can see how it would be difficult for some players to use certain controllers. I think that they should make something like this for the PS3 in which you could switch to an Xbox 360 control scheme so anyone could choose which playing style they want for either of the two consoles. The only downside I can see with this is that it's made by MadCatz which doesn't quite have a good history in creating quality products but it's still a good idea nontheless.
