You can say "It's not for everyone" about absolutely anything anyone enjoys that isn't on like the first two levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. And even then there's literally people who don't like eating food, and will starve themselves because eating is not for them.

Even some of the most popular things around like football and sex are not things that everyone enjoys. "So Escapists, what do you enjoy that other people don't and vice versa." Silly thread topic is silly.
I think it's fairly obvious that "it's not for everyone" tends to be a popular phrase referring to acquired tastes or less popular things n stuff?

Arcade games. I don't mean XBLA or PSN or stuff like that. I mean TMNT, The Simpsons, Xmen etc. all in front of a screen dedicated just to them with sticky/cracked sticks and giant colorful buttons and cool art decals all over the machine.

Not only do I like them, I think that whole style of gaming was pretty sweet.

The Uncharted Trilogy.

I like the games, I think the games looks incredible, the cinematic feel is outstanding and the characters well written and well acted.

But they are so frustrating and so controler snapping difficult that it takes any and all enjoyment I may have been having away. They're good games but they are nowhere near the perfect ratings they've been getting.

I wrote a blog about it on another site. http://www.moviefancentral.com/oldkingclancy/blogs/uncharted---a-first-hand-account

Cold showers for me. Nothing's better than walking still half asleep into one of those babies. Instant wake up call, on-the-fly.
And I just like cold in general, so that might be it.

Like: Nightcore, for those who don't know it is a style of remixing songs to increase pitch..., tempo..., and some other audio jargon that I don't understand, basically remix any song to sound like it could be an anime opening theme. I don't know why I like it, It is just so addictive. Although I can understand that if you listen to a favorite song you may have the reaction of it being ruined.

Dislike: What I call "gangster games", by which I mean GTA, Saints Row 1 and 2, and some others that may be similar. As a person that likes story in my games I feel that any good story in these game is wasted because a gangster protagonist, I see, is only looking forward to dying in a ditch somewhere later. This only applies to modern gangsters like GTA ans Saints Row 1&2 since the prohibition gangsters have a cool kind of code of honor and tradition that makes them interesting, I specify Saints Row 1 & 2 because what some people see as a decline of the series I see as an improvement going to the most insane level of gags and world, that actually makes it more like being a comic book villain rather than a street thug.

Professional Wrestling. Yea, I'm a smark. I get it. It's a performance, and it's popular with kids. Most agree that the WWE isn't as good at it used to be, but I still like it. I am a little tired of the ridicule at work though when the subject comes up. Most of my coworkers say the same thing: "I liked it when I was like.. 10. But now? HA!" But I can deal with that.

It's when people's only argument against it is "It's fake, therefore it's dumb." If that's really all you can say about it, then I'm afraid you just don't get it, and I can't explain it you. That's fine, too. You don't have to get it. It's not for everyone. But I would hope you don't think less of those who like it, because if so, you're kind of a dick.
I think Vince MacMahon said it best: "To those who believe in the beauty of professional wrestling, nothing needs to be said. For those who don't appreciate wrestling, nothing could be said to change their minds."

Also a smark in my late twenties, also follow it religiously, also getting really tired of...everything you just said.

I liked Civ III a lot despite the fact many think it was one of the worst. (not really sure why, it was a great upgrade from Civ II)

Visual novels. You get to read a book with images, voice acting and music, enhancing the atmosphere.
Still, I can understand why some people don't like having to sit behind a pc clicking through all the text. Now if only they would start releasing tablet versions, you'd have the best of both worlds.

I think there are few foods that can't be improved by throwing some Madras Powder in with the sauce. I enjoy listening to EBM with cookie monster vocals. I think endurance races are fun. And I enjoyed the "everyone is crazy" element of Dragon Age 2.

Well apparently black coffee, whenever I order it people insist I have milk with it. Then when I tell them I don't like it with milk in they look at me like I have two heads.
Waitwaitwaitwaitwait.... Liking black coffee is strange? I don't think I know anyone who drinks coffee with milk unless they are drinking a rare cappuccino. Coffee should taste coffee and that's final.

OT: Monster Hunter I guess. Not a massive hit outside of Japan, but dang, I am hooked.

I love Sailor Moon, oh the squeaky cry baby and her several long seasons and spin offs. I love them. Even though I'm almost twice as old as I was when I first started watching it. And they're making a new anime! I think I died and gone to anime heaven.

Transformers 2. By all records, it's horrible, but I can't really get my head around why it's labeled as the worst of the bunch. They are all bad enough that no care should be given to plot and character interaction, and T2 has the best fight scenes(The forest scene, seriously), so.. The third one was just a mess, and way too long for a movie without an interesting plot.

You and me both, brother. Except I like all colors of women with junk in the trunk.
Likewise, love me a girl with some junk in her trunk or atleast some meat on her bones. Same as Queen Michael, all colors of women are fine by me. A qoute I saw someplace summed it up perfectly for me: "Dogs like bones, men like meat." Glad to know I'm not alone on this subject. :D

Liking things that don't really go together.
Like I play the Sims 3 but also Dark Souls and enjoy both I've had people say that's strange.

I guess also celebrities is one for me. I don't really enthuse over anyone unless they impress me in some way and I certainly wouldn't be one of those screaming girls you see at concerts or red carpet events. Unless someone has superpowers I really don't see a reason to treat them like they are different.

I like WoW and many mainstream games. I hate 'retro' indie games even though I should be that target market as someone who grew up on the Amiga and the first PC I purchased for myself was a 486.

I also I like kids and think modern American cartoons are usually better than the ones I grew up with and often have better story lines than anime. I also think TV is better than it ever has been thanks to a huge variety of options(I do hate most reality shows as everyone else claims to). If I didn't vote for Gary Johnson I would have voted for Mitt Romney and generally been happy with my vote.

I am not the average escapist.
I voted Gary Johnson too, and I completely agree about the kids cartoons. Maybe you're more average than you think. :)
