Fine. I think your bloody good writers. Most of my favorite fiction comes from England or Japan. What is it about small imperialistic island nations that makes them so good at story telling? Is it the water? It's something in the water.
The Thatcher government sure gave the world some good dystopian literature, yeah.

Great Britain and America broke up 240 years ago. I think they're over it by now,

Besides, we've both moved on to having multiple mutually abusive relationships with other countries.

But, what the hell.

Thanks for Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple...the unofficial Godfathers of Heavy Metal.

Good show, Old Chaps. Jolly good show!

If not for Cockney, WH40k Orks wouldn't be as awesome as they are =P
Eh, American Rednecks or Australian/New Zealand Bogans would have worked much the same.

I don't recall seeing any salt, to be honest most of the people I know have to be reminded that something actually happened on today's date. But I'll take the ego boost anyway! rulebritaniabritaniarulesthewaves etc.

Your tea is the absolute best... for dumping into harbors.

You founded the largest empire the world has ever seen... although it did get independence before it became quite so big

Your great enlightenment thinkers pioneered the idea of republicanism... while ours went ahead and made a republic.

Sorry Brits. I ain't even patriotic, always gotta take that 4th of July opportunity to joke at you though.

As a Brit myself, we do not get salty. We get sarcastic. Anyway, nice to be complemented for a change. All I shall thanks america for allowing our actors to get so many roles as villains.

If I had the money and the talent, you better believe I'd be fielding 2000 points of Space Chavs.

Lend/lease is the only thing that allowed Britain to hang on, with out it, Germany would have had all of Western Europe. People seem to for get not so tiny details like that.
Without the Revolution, "lend/lease" would have been "own/own", and (if their treatment of other colonies was any indication), they'd have had a far sight more boots on the ground, much earlier in the war (conscription being what it is).

OT: Your lax (perceived) oral hygiene standards make us feel better about ourselves, you insistence on drinking tea (which contributes to the former) means there's more coffee for the rest of us, and you gave us the Benny Hill theme.

Dear British people, at least you're not Canadians.
Yeah, we Canadians have this southern neighbour that can be really...well, let's just say that for all their faults, their elections and politics are incredibly entertaining...

The English had a Republic, and they decided to go back to a monarchy. The US just hasn't gotten to that stage yet. OTOH, might get another Bush in the White House...

You can say the C word without inciting a riot. For that, I envy you. Also your parliament is far more interesting to watch than our congress.

More like they had the dictatorship of Cromwell. Same result as a bourgeois republic though, so I'll give you that.

The enlightenment was a social and scientific movement, not a political movement. Enlightenment thinkers came from across the political spectrum from rational absolutists to republicans. What made them enlightened was the desire for a freer and more rational society, not necessarily a change to the political order.

To assume that republicanism is somehow the logical end-point of the enlightenment is ridiculous Americocentrism, and I speak as a British republican. Don't forget that the European revolution achieved its high point under Napoleon, not under the National Convention, the Directorate or the Consulate.

And now their super heroes too. Superman, Batman, Spider-man, the list will go on. The Brits shall rule again... in Hollywood.

We're salty over the 4th of July? That's the first I've heard of it, I don't think anyone really cares.
Personally, I always celebrate the 4th of July as thank god we got rid of those awful people day.
I'm with you, if anything I think we're glad that America isn't our problem anymore.
