If I had the money and the talent, you better believe I'd be fielding 2000 points of Space Chavs.

Lend/lease is the only thing that allowed Britain to hang on, with out it, Germany would have had all of Western Europe. People seem to for get not so tiny details like that.

Without the Revolution, "lend/lease" would have been "own/own", and (if their treatment of other colonies was any indication), they'd have had a far sight more boots on the ground, much earlier in the war (conscription being what it is).

OT: Your lax (perceived) oral hygiene standards make us feel better about ourselves, you insistence on drinking tea (which contributes to the former) means there's more coffee for the rest of us, and you gave us the Benny Hill theme.

The enlightenment was a social and scientific movement, not a political movement. Enlightenment thinkers came from across the political spectrum from rational absolutists to republicans. What made them enlightened was the desire for a freer and more rational society, not necessarily a change to the political order.

To assume that republicanism is somehow the logical end-point of the enlightenment is ridiculous Americocentrism, and I speak as a British republican. Don't forget that the European revolution achieved its high point under Napoleon, not under the National Convention, the Directorate or the Consulate.

We're salty over the 4th of July? That's the first I've heard of it, I don't think anyone really cares.

Personally, I always celebrate the 4th of July as thank god we got rid of those awful people day.
