I wonder how many of the games counted actually made it outside of Japan.
The good ones did (or are on their way to), if that's what you're asking.
I'm more wondering if the percentages here are reflective of the percentages in the rest of the world.
Hm, well if they are different I think it says more about the preferences of Famitsu than the games they have available to them. Nearly all of the best stuff coming from Japan is either already available in the West or is on its way.

If we got half the games the japs get translated for a western speacking audience then i think the ps3 would probably fair a lot better over here.

Currently the xbox does seem to have the better line up of games. (coming from a ps3 owner)

Didn't Famitsu give Final Fantasy XIII a 39/40? Their word has become meaningless in the past few years.

P.S. Thanks

It really, really is. I'm sorry, but I don't see how any gaming magazine, it presumably being run by a group of editors, all experienced in the industry from which we would take the mean of their opinions, could give that game more than a 30/40, being very very generous. One or two people could love it, but as a gaming property it is just poor. Compared to other FF titles it brings very little new and doesn't do anything that well.
Using your opinion of a game as a basis to discredit a magazine is hardly an argument. 39/40 may be a little generous, but the game isn't THAT bad.
I 100% agree, i'm no fan of the FF series but the masochist in me keeps telling me to give them another try. FFx111 wasn't bad in the way I found other FF games, this was purely a BAD GAME and famitsu's score represents fanboyism rather than a balanced representitive score.
I dunno, Technically FFXIII was phenominal, the FMV's were stunning and the soundtrack (while forgettable) was superb, the in game graphics and enemies were reasonably varied, the set-peices could be spectacular and the combat system was fairly diverse.

However it's a game, not a movie; the corriders of pressing X to win the game cannot really be excused, the story takes about 20 hours to get interesting and the difficulty curve can be arbitarily and unreasonably high.

If they packaged the FMV's as a dvd collection i would watch it, but as a 40ish hour game, it's 50% at best.

Higher percentage of good titles? I don't think the argument can be made, most releases were multiplatform like usual and I don't think (for the year 2010) the 360 had significantly more exclusives (if it did have more)

Also GoW3 was alright but brought nothing new to the table after GoW and GoW2. More of the same isn't a bad thing but I'd hardly call it a deal breaker. Now if you mentioned Uncharted 2 or Heavy Rain then I'd agree those hold more weight, but I personally found Gears of War, Fable 2 (3 was nice, 2 was better), Dead Rising (the first one), and Mass Effect (also first) to be up there with what influenced me to focus more on the Xbox this console generation than Sony's machine.

Quick Edit: Just saw the other post. The problem here wasn't "Updating" drivers, but installing "Older" drivers because the game was so old the modern DX10 wasn't rendering properly. Had to find the right driver to make the game run without looking like it had fallen into a blender while still being able to play Civilization 5. Get me?
I can't even argue with the top part, that was pretty much dead on. And I honestly bought the PS3 originally because most FF games are Playstation Exclusives (At least the console ones have been since VII).The only 360 game I envied was Mass Effect (And that's no longer an exclusive series, though 1 got dumbed-down to a graphic novel.) But I do still believe that PS3 had an overall better 2010 than 360 (Judged mostly on exclusives because the dual-ports seemed mostly even).

Yeah, time to invent the light bulb again. It's a Japanese poll, there's probably a lot of PS3 Japan-only exclusives that pumped up the average score.

Then again, I would agree with it anyway, since PS3 last year had Heavy Rain, and I'll always support anything that's linked positively with it, like a HR fanboy I am :p

Well in Japan noone cares about the 360, seriously at game conventions they put up PS3 and xbox rigs and there is never a line for the xbox.

Now class, please pay attention to this example of publisher bias...

The problem with a game magazine doing something like this is that they aren't unbiased about it. Every publication (no matter how much they try to be universally fair) has their own bias for or against certain systems, and apparently Famitsu has a thing for PS3 and DS. This would be a lot more important if it had been done by an impartial third-party source.

If there was an american magazine calling out the xbox as the winner, you would same the same thing about that.. How it was biased and such..

It seems to me that the gaystation3 has caught up to the massive head-start that crashbox 360 had.. Considering exclusives and so on..

But in the end, it's all a matter of taste..

Meh, it's all opinion, though I'd say that this Japanese magazine does have bias on the subject.

I thought it was pretty even, myself.
To be fair, only one of the consoles isn't Japanese (the Xbox), does that mean only that console can be chosen for them not to be labeled biased? Even if they are biased, we are to. We praise FPS's in the western world with very high regard, while in Japan they are seen as empty and fruitless experiences. Taste is always biased.
