I really hope there isn't anyone getting upset over this.
Well, at least not any white people in America or Europe.
I wasn't really into DBZ, but can anyone tell me if there was any fuss made over Mr. Popo? Japanese people are stereotyped as being xenophobic and racist but also really obsesed with western culture. I haven't been to Japan so I an't say how accurate that is.
One thing that seems to be a constant, however, is tourists being either crazily ignorant or believe that stereotypes apply to everyone. I'm sure that there are Japanophiles that will go to Japan and act like Mr. James, even if the majority of them don't. This commercial is probably making fun of the American tourists who believe that Japan is made of catgirls and pocky rather than white people in general. Complaining about this is silly, especially if the complainers think that it is a universal statement.
And now, I will complain for a bit just because I'm not done rambling.
I know what these kind of tourists are like, too, because I've had to deal with many of them. I live in Texas, and so I have had to deal with people ask me where they can find Cowboy hats/boots and have been asked by many people if I own any livestock. It's annoying as hell to have to deal with these kind of tourists, and people will make fun of you if you do. I'm sure Japanese people are tired of being asked where all the cosplayers and porn are as well, so I say let them do this because it's going to make more than one person rethink how they've been acting while on vacation.
