That must be great for profits, your singer never has to be paid, never gets sick, and never will complain or leave

Am I the only one more interested in how the hologram tech works than how weird it is that Japan has holographic pop stars?
It's not a "real" hologram in the sci-fi sense. It's a transparent screen sitting in front of the band with the image of the singer projected into it. She's only in a 2D plane, although the depth effect is pretty good on the projection.

That's some very impressive tech. Not sure the about the actual application of it, which seem more bizarre than cool to me, but at least they kept the appearance cartoonish rather than diving head first into the uncanny valley. And I guess it won't sue you over royalties.

Idk whether to feel relieved or sad...

Yay for Japan, they crossed uncanny valley and now it gets awesome. Anyway, Vocaloid concerts are pretty old and its only music that I find wierd yet amusing.

Holy crap. That is really freaking cool. I can think of a ton of Japanese songs I'd love to hear before any of those, but that hardly matters considering I just watched a freaking hologram. Now to start trying to get to the other side of the uncanny valley; the whole "anime girl" thing is pretty cool stylistically, but I look forward to the day when a rising pop star is revealed to be a vocaloid, and everyone is shocked.

Cool Tech. Terrible they are perpetuating the lifeless tunes of this robot tho. I love j/k-pop but hatsune tunes are completely lifeless. just cant get into it.

But good to see japan is still japan tho. Yall remember the Fire Bombers? Yes the worlds first popular FICTIONAL band. Also came from Japan. so nice to see them branching out with cool tech as well.

Why am I not surprised that the article was about Miku Hatsune? Well, there you go, Japan's second biggest secret revealed.

I'm also interested in the tech. Where are you getting this information from? This isn't conjecture is it? I've yet to find any information on the holographic tech they're using, yet all the news stories are calling it a hologram.

You're a bit behind the times reporting this, aren't you? XD

OK, that's a little unfair, since I've seen this footage more than 6 months ago just because I went looking for vocaloids back then.

But... What's wrong with it anyway? Just because Miku doesn't really exist doesn't mean she can't be popular.

(It's never stopped anyone before after all.)

Ah technology. Sooner or later humans will be redundant.

You'd better hope that by that point society has moved away from this idiotic utilitarian mindset it has now, or we'll all be in serious trouble.

At least in the case of this teenage pop star we won't have to worry about her being a ***** at studios, getting drugged up or become an alcoholic and then refuse rehab, or posing in racy clothes or close to nothing in music videos.

Wait, that last could happen. Shudder.

The application here is cheesy but at least there was effort put into the modeling. A very tall girl, she is.
Wouldn't mind seeing what else gets done with this tech.
<link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOaHKuRK10Q&feature=related>Yowane Haku. Shes usually portraited as the drunk Vocaloid.

Sheesh... People being butthurt over this? How arrogant is that.
