First off, as to whether or not I like this game?

The KoD in my name stands for KING OF DOMA.

Yeah.

Second off, people, here's a good chance to vote with our wallets, people... if we buy this game by the truckload, it will send a message to Square that games like THIS are what we're looking for when we think good FF games, not walking down a corridor for 25 hours because we're supposed to care about a crazy chick with pink hair and a whiny momma's boy with a boomerang up his butt. You can't tell me that doesn't sound like a good idea...

That's nice, but I don't care.

Not until they put Spyro the Dragon on the damn European PS Store! Why isn't it there!

Im so irritated about this. An actual copy was in my local gaming shop and is I went to get some cash, someone bought it. Within a matter of four minutes. I'd rather own a hardcopy of Final Fantasy games weirdly.

"... he's every single generic, shallow RPG villian seen in most Final Fantasy games."
That is exactly why I love him, he's all of them condensed into one. On the flipside, it could be seen that most Final Fantasy games have a villain who are flat, onesided versions of him. I know theirs no real depth to him but he does have his own development. He grew into becoming the ultimate evil, he didn't start out all powerful which was a nice change.

It's also out/coming out on the Wii Virtual Console. Or so say the Nintendo Magazines.

Although it's under the name Final Fantasy 3

*facepalm* *Siiiiiiiiiighhhhhh*

And so here we have yet more shameful proof of an ancient and massive inferiority complex pervading even the uppermost and otherwise-respectable echelons of the nerd kingdom.

In an article about one of his preferred entries in a game series making a fourth-string appearance on PSN (make that fifth-string if you count Tactics), in a different country, that did not bear relevance to any other game whatsoever, even John Funk himself could not resist the urge to unfavorably compare Final Fantasy VII to Final Fantasy VI not once, not twice, but three times. This, despite the fact that VI is not only not his favorite JRPG, it is not even his favorite game of the franchise.

Try and find anyone on the Internet praising or even mentioning FFVI, in any context, without indulging an inexplicable urge to drag FFVII through the mud, even if no one else had ever mentioned the one game or the other in the first place. It has never happened, not for fourteen years now, and it never will.

I have no way of explaining the deplorable reliability and regularity of this phenomenon, except to realize that VI is Pepsi to VII's Coke: they hate being #2 with all their might, but they know they will never, ever be #1. And that's just how it is always going to be. I am truly sorry your game did not win a popularity contest that was old news before most of us were out of middle school, but consequently, the torrent of unprovoked, insecure, jealous, whiny scorn that has infested the Internet for over a decade on this pathetic and self-defeating rivalry- from both sides- has made me come to despise thinking about either game ever again. So, thanks for that: at the very least, this type of person managed to disgust me out of becoming one of them, so I guess that's something to be grateful for.

What infuriates me most is how this is only tolerated for this very couple, and no other. If engaging in the exact same behavior, but with any two other games- let's say Call of Duty: Black Ops and Halo: Reach for example- instantly subjects you to groaning and fanboy/troll labels after only a few months, what classification do we even have for someone who would, apropos of nothing at all, start indignantly championing the obvious superiority of CoD:BlOps over Reach or vice-versa in the year 20-fucking-24?

Stay classy, Escapist.

A good game?
A decent one, surpassed by at least four other games in the series, yeah.
That are the other three?
12, 10, 6, 9.
see I still like 6 but it may be the fact 7 was one of my first ps1 games that causes nostalgia to make a biased opinion although I`m surprised 12 is up there I couldn`t stand 12 it just felt so generic jrpg and 10 was okay but once again I found it meh my favs were 7,tactics,4,and 1 although I mean there are so many FF games out there I`m sure we`d find a thousand other top four lists that would seem left field to us :p

In my opinion, wanting to rule the world for the hell of it doesn't count. So plenty of antagonists are taken out then as well, especially the ones in empires.
he did WANT to rule anything, he wanted to burn the world, or you forget him killing people on a whim, BEFORE he drained the powers from the Traid
Kefka = FF's Version of the Joker

He also constantly mindfucked Cloud, burned his village to the ground, injured Tifa and Zack(hint: they're two of Cloud's close friends), and caused havoc overall. The best part is that he actually did it for a reason. I'd rather have an antagonist that's somewhat relatable than an antagonist that just kills shit and has a silly laugh.
yeah? and? Zack was a boring character when we finally got his side of the story, and Tifa is just as uninteresting, and Cloud? -.- he's just annoying anymore, sides your forgetting one major detail, no one thought Kefka was gonna be the final boss, i was sure i was gonna be fighting Gestahl or the Waring Triad, also, Seph's actions never effected anyone other then the main cast, un-till the ending, Kefka ruined thousands of lives, destroyed his world and kept it on a downward sloop, all seph could really do at the end of the game was mess with one guys head, and kill one girl
oooo scary villian there
i'll take FF's version of the Joker

Too bad the entire cast of FFV is absolutely plain.
true enough, but 5 is still better then 7 and I found EXdeath just more fun over all

Too bad the entirety of FF2 absolutely sucks.
fixed

I just hope they update it in some meaningful manner, and by that I mean make the battle transitions faster. I remember being infuriated by the hour long fade-in effect for every battle on the original PS1 game. Still, it'll be good to revive the glory days of the franchise before Square went completely batshit insane and released their 60-hour long interactive nonsensical anime movie FFXIII.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A good villain needs motivation. Doing something for the fuck of it merely makes you an insane douche-nozzle. In this light, Sephiroth is a far better villain, he actually had a reason to do what he did. Cheesus.

I don't really see how Sehprioth had a better reason to kill people then Kefka. Kefka was apparently a normal guy until he went crazy after having a magic infusing operation done on him. Sephiroth was pretty much a normal SOLDIER until he found out he was the son of some evil alien goddess thing and then went crazy.

I think the main reason Kefka's better is because Kefka is just batshit crazy, and therefore is like the Joker of the Final Fantasy universe. Where Sephiroth is preachy crazy, and just seems like a cult leader. Not as cool.

Well now this is pleasant news. My absolute favorite in the series, if this has improved loading times over the PSX version of the game I might just pick this up(never owned the SNES version, only rented).

And now, video to celebrate this news

YES. This needs to make it to Britain. It really does. Having picked up Final Fantasy V, VII, VIII and IX on PSN, I can definitely say I'm ready for the best game in the series to be there, sitting on my PSP.

Please, dear God, please send this to Britain.

Shadow the Ninja.
Don't forget his most awesome theme tune.
Hell yes. Spaghetti-western style theme, for a ninja, performed by an awesome Japanese classical guitarist. It doesn't get better.

A decent battle system latched onto a dull story and duller characters?
So wait, for liking FF VII you get given Chrono Trigger?
I shall reserve judgment on Chrono Trigger until I beat it at least once. That may take a while.

...So possibly yes. *shrugs*
