I'll take Timber Wolf for 300, John.[/quote]

There we go. A "Western" design that actually looks good. The Atlas, on the other hand, does not.

For another example of a "Western" aesthetic that actually looks cool, see the Scopedog:

Which, ironically, is from a Japanese series.

(I just know Ollie Barder is going to yell at me for using the term "Western aesthetic," too...)

Perhaps so, but the Imperator literally has a (non-decorative) castle on its back, on top of the already gigantic mech. You can't tell me that wouldn't be awesome in full scale - it would be 55.5 meters (166 feet) tall!

conscript syndrome, cheap means faster build times, basically a zerg rush.
I've never seen that picture before, but those... aren't actually Zakus [http://www.gearsonline.net/designers/zaku2.jpg]. I may be missing something.

Yeah, I know. That's why I think it looks silly :p Then again, I think pretty much everything 40k looks kind of silly.

We move ever closer to the day of the giant robot. I am happy about this.

This story would be so much cooler if the mech in question was an Imperator Titan. Just saying.
And it begins. Christ guys, I like 40k too, but there's no need to harp on about Western Mechs vs Eastern Mechs all the time.

And as for you John, you know as well as any that Megas is really from the Eastern school.
Well, yes. And to be fair, I did start it :p

I would still rather see a 1:1 scale Battletech Atlas.

Funk I'm rather hurt you think I don't know what a zaku looks like. I only called those thinks Zaku's cause of the red eye which is used on them.

Stiiiiiill waiting on my Deathscythe Japan. Still waiting...here's a template

Like that, only big. Like, Statue of Liberty big. Failing that, Loran Cehack's gundam is pretty cool looking...

That's not Loran Cehack's (Turn-A), that's Kira Yamato's Strike Freedom Gundam.

I'd shit my pants if they made a life sized Sazabi, one of the most bad ass looking "real mecha's" ever.

It would be cool if they did some life sized super robots too. Seeing a life sized Big O or Gurren Lagann would be pretty sick.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what our age is missing. This level of vision is what created the wonders of the world; monuments that have living the ages as models of our abilities to create masterworks.

Hubris? Commercial self-servance?

Petty trifles in the way of us having magnificent structures in every major city of the world for us to marvel at.

Western mech, Eastern mech, whatever. At least the Japanese honor their heroes. I'm off to buy more Gunpla and I want that 1:1 Gundam. Failing that, they can build me the TR-6 Woundwort... Might fit better in my garden.

So basically they created a giant model kit it sounds like. I find that to be oddly appropriate given how much of the success of the series comes from the sales of model kits.

That said, I'm not entirely sure WHY this is such a big deal except it being put on public property. I was pretty sure that they already built a lifesized Gundam for the Joyopolis amusement park at least. It's been mentioned here before, and I think I mentioned this also at the time.

Also I'll be honest in saying that while familiar with it to an extent, I've never been a huge fan of the original Mobile Suit Gundam. I saw subtitled versions of it with other fanboys back in the mid-1980s when I was a kid gaming with people at the local sub base. Comparisons to Robotech were obvious, and of course I also saw things like the old "Galaxy Express/Captain Harlock" and "Orguss" (which they used bits of in Robotech/Macross).

Truthfully I feel things like the Gundam W series, Gundam Seed, (and later ones) successfully trumped it in every way. I mean I understand it's a classic to an extent but I don't think it actually aged all that well. Maybe there is some ethnic or nationalist angle to the original I'm not getting at the moment.

All we need now is for some kid to get into an accident, then his genius father will rebuild him and Astro Boy will be born!

I'd rather have a new Gundam be built but having the Classic Gundam in Shizuoka will be sweet.

Fudgo said:
So have they tried bringing that thing to life yet?
Not completely, only the head moves and the exhaust smoke spills through the chest vents. I think the arm and torso move as well but it doesn't walk.

Here are the other Gundams that I'd like to see built same as the Classic Gundam cuz I know they made a scale model Zeta Gundam but not as epic;

So those are the Gundams but what about some Titans or Zeon Mobile Suits

You guys do know that once they build the Gurren Lagann we're screwed, right?

But seriously, as has been said repeatedly this is awesome! If only I could go see it myself...

What, even Eisenhorn?
I was more referring to like, the giant cathedral spaceships and the fat mecha with the tiny legs with castles on their back. The fashion is a bit too GRIM GOTHIC GRRR for my taste, but I can see why some people like it.

The one they built before was lying down, this one is standing which clearly makes it superior.

The original MSG is kind of dated, I think it's presented much better in the compilation movie trilogy, to be honest. It cuts the filler and fixes a good portion of the crappy late '70s low-budget animation (if not all of it).
