Marvel does need to get some more female superheroes on the big screen. Scarlet Witch is one of the first Avengers that springs to mind for me (but I'm kinda old school). And her character and powers are a little more complex than the heavy hitters that are mostly populating the squad. I like this. I like that maybe we'll get a little deeper story. But let's be realistic--the public loved shallower plotted epic superhero battlefields.

So, female Avengers that I would like to see?
  • Tigra: no
Ms. Marvel: maybe, but just another flying heavy hitter
    Wasp: maybe
    She hulk: redundant
Jocasta: too complicated of a story (but let's face it, Ultron WILL eventually show up on the big screen)
Spider-Woman: I like this option (maybe it ties into the Veranke story line and the Skrulls down the road)
    Mockingbird: no
I still choose Scarlet Witch over Spider-Woman. So, I guess my vote is "good choice."

Characters who have the power to do anything tend to be boring and/or obnoxious. Whedon tends to be a pretty good storyteller, so hopefully he'd have things in hand- but if it were me, the first thing I'd do would be to put explicit limits on Scarlet Witch's powers. An infinite source of "deus ex machina/diabolus ex machina" plot devices isn't wise to hang over an audience that's willing to engage its brain, even if you never use it.

(First person to pipe up that blockbuster movie audiences and/or superhero movie audiences and/or Marvel movie audiences aren't willing/interested/there to engage their brains: spare us the "wit", please.)

Regarding NextWave: Oh, God, yes, please? And get Ellis to write the script? And maybe Gina Torres playing Monica Rambeau?

Valkyrie maybe? A few more thee's and thou's might not hurt, and she'd be an interesting counter to Thor besides Hulk simply punching him.

Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.

So Fox/Singer just stole him away from Marvel..
