And as far as I know they never go into space, so they are more... land... army... guys. They they DO look and act a like like WarHammer 40'000's infamous "SPEHSS MAHREENZ!" who seem to be the prototype for most burly quasi-fascistic sci-fi infantry since 1987.
though I suppose Robert A. Heinlein is grandfather to them all, and set the template as Space Marines with fascistic undertones and legendary badassery.
ISA come from space, in and landing craft (very Marine like) and I heard several of them give the "Huuoo Auuurrgh" that US Marines always do.
BUT, I'd say they fit more of the "James Cameron's Aliens" type of Colonial Marines[/i], normal body proportions, more eccentric personalities, easier going, fly by the seat of their pants as the shit goes down while one of them yelling something like
"Game over, man, GAME OVER! They're coming through the fucking walls!"
While a Space Marine would just grunt and charge at it yelling "WE FAAAUUGHTT FUUR THAA EMPRAAA!!!"
So going by those trope-a-dopes:
The characters in Killzone are Colonial Marines going by the common trope.
The characters in Gears of War fit the Space Marine trope.
Even though space and/or colonies may not be directly related to either.
It's not ripping off each other, they're both riffing on a trope that dates back to 1939!
Well that was a very nice rant. However all I was pointing out is that both games are similar in that they are about manly men with guns fighting Nazi like opponents. I didn't say either was ripping of each other, I don't really care. All I was trying to point out is that the of course the games a similar any one with brain cells could see that. But, I'm glad you had time for a half page dissertation on complete nonsense.
EDIT: Now please you don't need to dedicate another page detailing the differences between Nazis from space and Nazis that pop out of the ground.
i second your last statement OT it looks pretty cool i guess but i dont own any current gen consoles just one kick-ass pc although for a console game this looks quite good graphicallySebenko said:Well the close combat can't be that good. I didn't see a single dude get stabbed with a rocket launching space-M249. That was hilarious in the first game. Good fun it was.
Pity it always felt so "clunky". It gave the guns some weight, but it got kind of annoying.
And I seem remember most of the hype for Killzone one was "look! orange eyes!" and "Look! camera move on reload!"
Oh, and the scope on the sniper rifle sucked. Always moving back to the middle of the screen...
I'm going to have to reach though time to shout my RAEG at that statement. STALKER. Best FPS ever.Spacefly said:Ho ho yes!
Killzone 2 was probably the best FPS of this generation so far. And I mean FP Shooter, not RPGs that are FPS's like Fallout 3.
I'll add you later, I'm PescoDiablo, I was going for an Italian vibe, I think it means Devil Fish or Peach Devil. Sounds stupid but its my "kill you in your face" identity.Jumplion said:Heh, sorry, I have problem with names and I didn't want to sift through posts to find the first one who said it.
See ya in Killzone 3! Add me if you haven't, PSN ID = Jumplion, just say you're from the Escapist and I'll gladly add you.
And yes, FOR VISARI!
Cheered me up, I've watched it several times and it still hasn't lost its charm.Treblaine said:But the cute video didn't cheer you up? You know that uses the raw audio from the game Dawn of War, that's hilariously bad voice acting up there with the original Resident Evil.
Also if you read the timeline Vekta was a Helghast planet, when the Higs bought themselves out of the earth colonies with the stupid amount of money they made the UCN used the funds to create the war machine and take Vekta away from them. Up until the Higs gave the UCN that money the Earth Colonies were financially crippled.Treblaine said:Still, central trope to these games is "the asshole is YOU" as though the enemy is presented as really Nazi like, there is always the innuendo that your actually jsut as bad if not worse.
I mean in Gears and Killzone 2 (not 1st) you are on an alien planet, attacking the locals there.
That's the worst example you could bring. You said "I mean FP Shooter", and then brought up "an RPG that's an FPS like Fallout 3".Spacefly said:Ho ho yes!

Hmm, I realise my comments are more directed at Spiner909 than you who implied plagiarism more than you.

LOL the only reason why Halo is so popular is because there aren't any FPS's for the 360 to compete with it. Of courrse Halo dominates when there are no other FPS's on the 360 to play. Thats' why even though the game is old its still being played. Not saying its a bad game but Kllzone multiplayer and presentation blow it (Halo series) out of the water.thiosk said:Why is it people still get excited every time a killzone game gets announced and excerpts provided?
Killzone 1 and 2 both failed in killing even the first Halo, which was the stated goal of their development. Now it seems its taking a stab at gears of war? Wat is this i don't even
Remember when Killzone 2 came out? You had a certain bluish australian-dog-like-creature who kept bantering on about how when he shot gas cylinders they like totally leaked.
Wow.
Then we never heard about it again afterwards, because no one gave a crap and playing killzone is quite like playing any other FPS with both hands dipped in moist peanut butter.
You could use the jetpack in Killzone liberation. And it also had guns on it so the one in killzone is just the ps3 version of that.tellmeimaninja said:WAT.Truly-A-Lie said:Killzone: Liberation had jetpack enemies, which Guerilla are using as a defense against "It's copying Halo!" arguments.
Halo 2 had jetpack enemies. That is a bad defense. Like you said, the jetpacks in this game seem to be more of weapons themselves than equipment. Why not use that? It actually makes sense.
