Couldn't my housemates conceivably walk into my room at any moment and shut down my xbox mid playthrough? That's a pretty serious possibility.
a mate could come in "hey did you turn off the dishwasher?" and bam the console is off. well played MS.
Actually I believe the conversation would go between mother and son (or partner/friend to player)

"So when are you going to turn that XBOX OFF and have dinner.... oh"

*person gets killed by player since they were about to finally beat the boss after all day of trying*

We all know that story is on its way :)
in this case at least they actually talked about turning it off. in my case it woudl jut innterpret nonrelated talk as command. which is worse.
In your example the activation word isnt present. The kinect voice command system is initially only looking for the word Xbox. So until Xbox is mentioned or something very similar, then accidental commands won't happen.

Someone running in and yelling Xbox off is hardly a massive new risk either, sure its a couple of extra paces to the console but I've seen it done with buttons. (Hell if you really want to be a dick like that there's always the fuse box, usually not located in the lounge anyway).

The journalistic standards are shoddy here. No attempt to test if is repeatable (there are still streams available an a gaming website should be able to lay its hands on a kinect equipped 360 and a copy of the stream) and just rellyaing on what are effect tweets from random people with little evidence of xbox ownership (and lets face it how many gamers watching this are likely to own a kinect let alone have it plugged in).

While I'm, not a fan of Kinect on all the time, this story has a strong whiff of bullshit.

THIS is news? Wow. Yeah, my kinect responded to some of the things that were said during the conference, too, but I just UNPLUGGED IT. To make an issue out of this is ridiculous.
Isn't the XBone supposed to have a mandatory always-on Kinect? So yeah, there ya go, no more unplugging.
And that has what to do with what I said? Last time I checked the Kinect the article is referring to is the one on the 360. That you can unplug. I dont think anyone outside of developers currently has THAT Kinect model, and I dont think the article is referring to devs.

All this bile towards the new xbox is hilarious. They said they were saving the heavy duty game stuff for E3. Now, if the E3 conference rolls around and they dont deliver... then thats a different thing altogether. THEN I will be upset.

And it doesn't occur to you that Kinect 2.0 might have the same problems, so it's pertinent to bring up the issue?

Or at least, you don't find it even a little bit hilarious?

yet there are multiple videoso n youtube where peopel are watching a movie, a character in the movie says "stop" and the movie stops becuase kinect interprets it as a stop command.

Or the guy with a loud enough voice to give commands during a multi-player match.
Hmmm would that be the equivalent of a suicide attack? I doubt his own xbox would escape unscathed.
All I'm thinking of is this video:

Either case are good enough reasons to tell MS to piss off. I want a gaming system not that crap. The best all in one computer is..... a computer.

Fair enough. And yeah, who would have though that the best machine at being a computer would be a computer.

Ultimate end-level boss for a new Xbox One game, one that issues Xbox commands to kill your character with.

"Ugh, 1 HP left... XBOX OFF! Mwuhah-*"

This reminds me of the time I showed off the voice access tools on my laptop all those years ago. Someone would just shout and switch the thing off. We thought it was funny but in reality, if you have a troll in your home it looks like playing an Xbox One will be impossible.

It could, yes. But we simply have no clue until we get our hands on the product. And to be honest, yes, I found my Kinect acting up to the conference to be very hilarious... the first couple of times. Thats when I had enough, lol... As far as the Kinect 2.0 with Xbox one, we simply dont know enough about it yet. I have a feeling that being a seperate device, its probable that you can disable it. But that assumption is also only speculation, for the time being. I suppose we shall see if more hilarity will ensue. :)
