In your example the activation word isnt present. The kinect voice command system is initially only looking for the word Xbox. So until Xbox is mentioned or something very similar, then accidental commands won't happen.Strazdas said:in this case at least they actually talked about turning it off. in my case it woudl jut innterpret nonrelated talk as command. which is worse.RicoADF said:Actually I believe the conversation would go between mother and son (or partner/friend to player)Strazdas said:a mate could come in "hey did you turn off the dishwasher?" and bam the console is off. well played MS.YodaUnleashed said:Couldn't my housemates conceivably walk into my room at any moment and shut down my xbox mid playthrough? That's a pretty serious possibility.
"So when are you going to turn that XBOX OFF and have dinner.... oh"
*person gets killed by player since they were about to finally beat the boss after all day of trying*
We all know that story is on its way
Someone running in and yelling Xbox off is hardly a massive new risk either, sure its a couple of extra paces to the console but I've seen it done with buttons. (Hell if you really want to be a dick like that there's always the fuse box, usually not located in the lounge anyway).
The journalistic standards are shoddy here. No attempt to test if is repeatable (there are still streams available an a gaming website should be able to lay its hands on a kinect equipped 360 and a copy of the stream) and just rellyaing on what are effect tweets from random people with little evidence of xbox ownership (and lets face it how many gamers watching this are likely to own a kinect let alone have it plugged in).
While I'm, not a fan of Kinect on all the time, this story has a strong whiff of bullshit.
