sorry for the double post, but this dumb needed smartening.

how is xbox "best known for shooters" more than ANY OTHER CONSOLE? because Halo made the original Xbox? yeah, things have grown since then. and even then, it wasn't known for it's shooters, it was known for its superior graphics, abilities, and online play.

i'd venture to say that playstation and xbox probably have the same amount of shooters. and if you look at the previous generation, i can almost GUARANTEE that playstation has more shooters.

and steam i KNOW has way more.

OMG STEAM IS KNOWN FOR SHOOTERS!
riiight .... the really bad steam jab a side,(i mean really, at least TRY to keep it in the same ball park, like a PS3 jab involving lame 3rd person games like GoW or uncharted ... always fixing other peoples screw ups -.- ...) i judge by where i see and hear, and all i ever hear about from that over hyped, faulty paper weight is Halo, Gears, why i should be playing them, or what ever lame cross platform shooter that happens to be on it. and all i ever see is shooters for it or, least advertised

i'm not gonna insult,
lair

I'm just gonna say what i say to all people are braining not good: "Shhhhh."
cause ya just did :p

actually, what did you hope to gain from singling me out? that your comment would spark some kind of heel-face-turn? well i have some bad news for ya then

its the xbox, nothing you can do or say will ever change my opinion of it.

That makes no sense.
So I guess Microsoft figured they were falling behind in their Random Corporate Douchiness quota for the year, and pulled this nonsense out at the last second.

Either the guns aren't selling as hot as they'd like, so they're drumming up demand before pulling them from the market for good...or Microsoft is just acting retarded.

Yeah, creative swearing is fun. This is a particularly good example of creative swearing.

OT: This seem pretty pointless. Firstly, why would they do it? Strange thing that.

hold on hold on, too much unbrain to fingerword at. lets see... i know i lied about not insulting, i guess i meant to say i'm not gonna be excessive about it. second, i didn't really TRY to single you out, but as the first post i read was my own, i then scrolled up and yours caught my eye. be flattered. you're like a shiny box of cereal and i'm some ADD addled child that needs to have it. third, i wasn't jabbing at steam. i love steam. i haven't turned my xbox on in almost a week because bastard steam forcing me to buy stuff for ridiculously cheap prices. my point was that you were claiming that somehow xbox was more known for shooters than ANY OTHER GAMING PLATFORM. which is just... willful ignorance to fit your own world view.

and as for "nothing you can do or say blah blah blah" penn and teller think you're kind of a douche. don't believe me?

If it was a censorship thing, they wouldn't let the users keep the guns post-purchase...
They don't want to be sued.

You have to gain premission from a person who bought a good if they want to be given their money back inexchange for what ever item was sold.
They can't be sued, though. The latest terms and conditions has a clause where you have to explicitly agree that you will not sue Microsoft or any subsidiaries/partners about Xbox live, nor will you join a class-action lawsuit against the above for an issue with Xbox live. Any disagreements must be settled, if not through mail between you and Microsoft/others, through an arbitrator chosen by the Arbitrator Association of America (for American customers).

It's kinda bullshit, if you ask me, but meh.
Another person posted that one can't make you give up your right to court trial, but their is also the fact that ECLU's have only rarely held up in court (since you agreed to it AFTER you bought the product, not before). Even a lawsuit Microsoft wins on the matter would still cost the company money. It is legally easier and cheaper to just let the people with the gun avatars keep them.

i prefer the term 'Asshole' its not as PC sounding, more abrasive and all around sounds better :D also, woulda though the 'these are all the fucks we can give' pic would hammered that in better (i should get bonus points for matching my avatar)

and how is it not know for shooters more then any other console? it's gotten ALL of the biggest name release shooters out there, and more often then not as an exclusive, or had them exclusively for a good long time.

not to mention Microsoft's 'Mario' is Master Chief, the protagonist in a shooter, with that all said, HOW you gonna tell me 'the xbox isn't know for shooters'

side note: Steam is a bastard, its the reason me PS3 got pawned

side side note: why is Sony the only company with out a stable mascot? MS has Master Chief, Nintendo has Mario, who's Sony got? is it still Kratos or is it Nathan Drake now?

who spends money on avatar shit? seriously it doesn't give you any bonuses to gameplay and no one really ever looks at your avatar anyway. I know the amount of microsoft points are small when purchasing these things, but really....your gonna spend money on some kind of aesthetic prop for your avatar to wave around? what's wrong with consumers these days?

People actually waste their money on that shit?

Well, good work Microsoft, you're saving the idiots from wasting their money on stupid pointless crap.

Actually, I can answer this as to why. When we had Microsoft come to our school to essentially market XNA and the XBLA, someone inquired about using avatars in games, and the rules to them.

Please allow me to paraphrase, as it's been a long while. Even though many Xbox games are marketed to "grown-ups." There are still people below the age of 16 that play, and have gold accounts. Microsoft can attempt to control this, but your never going to be able to tell if someone's 23, or 13. (How old am I?)

There is to be no violence, and no aggression from, or against Avatars. Maybe something funny like getting dizzy or falling over would be acceptable, as well, there's no real harm. But anyone who is, or acts below the age of 16 might not overly like their virtual self vomiting, or getting chain-sawed in half, or gibbed to bits. I sort of agree. The Avatars are supposed to be fun, not slaughtered for shits. Because you just know, someone who's 25 is going to take personally, or some parent's going to shit a brick when Virtual Timmy is shot and killed.

TL;DR, Avatars are supposed to be friendly representations of yourself. Not part of any bloodshed, because you know someone's going to take it personally. Guns are just plain associated with bloodshed.
I didnt mean they should be gory or inappropriate I just mean they could look meaner instead of cutesywutesy. My avatar has a somber expression on purpose and it's ruined by the toddler like interactions he has with everything.

if they don't want any aggression from avatars, then delete all the air kicks, kung fu dummys/kata, swords, light saber moves. just stop them jumping around like they are 4 and I'll be happy. All I want is my avatar to look mean or stoic when a flying skull turns up and floats around him instead of looking like hes at a birthday party full of candy and cakes and toys and hes a child.

not that it's majorly important to me or anything but it just en flares my nerd rage :p

I dunno, I'm not for the mean look. (My guy's got the dark shirt, gloves, and jeans, but he's still got the same smirk my Mom gave me on her Wii) Your playing games to have fun, not be all melancholy, so why not show that off with your avatar? :p

Aside, I'd be havin' good times if there was a flaming skull around me... Until it set something on fire.

Where I'm getting with this, is that they're for the casual side of things. And casual players don't look mean when they're playing Co-op on GoW3.

The XBOX is becoming more and more family friendly. Sony is going to have a monopoly on shooters and hardcore games if this continues, but I can't imagine Microsoft giving all of that money up for a niche market.

At worst we're going to see Microsoft try and hide adult content, like this, from families. I can't say I blame them, they've opened themselves up to more people so they need to close parts off to accommodate that. It's not as if anyone is going to switch to Sony because they can't buy a gun for a meaningless group of polygons.

To be blunt, this doesn't matter at all therefore I don't give a fuck.

If they want to ban weapons, they should take a look at the Xbox 360 power brick - have you ever picked one of those up? It has quite a heft to it. You could do some serious damage whirling that thing around.

Considering they'll be the only ones with the guns, they've got nothing to complain about.

OT, this is craziness. Unless its a copy writing thing... otherwise... craziness.

Just another thing to add to my "Microsoft buys it and ruins it" list. oh wait, it was originally Microsofts to begin with. i guess that makes it ok if its their stuff, or is it (George Lucas fans im looking at you)?

Probably the same reason as why you can't have gun like items at school, because "gunz r bad". I think Microsoft just wants to soften their image by moving their image away from shooters and teens to more family friendly stuff which means not having tons of guns.
