It'd be interesting to see FF7 with the graphics it should've had in the first place.

The lego brick hand thing was cool at the time (it was their first time straying away from the grid based map/sprite system to 3D, give em a break) but then when you see FF8 or 9... you can tell the graphics didn't quite live up to the potential of the hardware.

Bring on the remake, change it if you want.

There is nothing wrong with playing to nostalgia, but if they do do this(which i know they won't even being an ff7 fanboy myself) they would have to change it to a huge degree. I also get the feeling that the Versus 13 project(when ever the hell it comes out been in development since 2002-2003)will change many people's look on what should and should not be in an ff game. well that and type O

I suspect you are but one of the many people that Yoshinori Kitase was talking about when he said, I quote: "If we did that, the fans might be disappointed or 'this is not what I was expecting' so in that sense maybe some might say that it's better to let memory be memory"

But if they don't change it at all then it's the same game. A direct clone of the first version, and I personally don't want that. I want me a genetically enhanced SUPER CLONE. I want there to be enough difference to be new and fun to play again whilst retaining enough of the original aesthetic, atmosphere and over-all story plot to make it recognisable.

If we, as fans, keep bitching about it it will NEVER be made and I for one sincerely hope that Sephiroth did not lie to us . . .

My thoughts on this... more talk on a FFVII remake? Who cares. Square discussing the possibility of changing the game up a little if they do a remake? Yes please!!!

I'm not looking at FFVII here, but rather FFVI. Of course Square has done full remakes for FFIII and FFIV, so you'd think at some point they'll get around to FFVI. Problem is, as much as I love the game I've played it enough that as soon as I get to the World of Ruin I have a routine and know exactly what to do. I'd probably buy it regardless but there's just the perfect opportunity there to really shake things up and completely redesign the world map, character locations, and side quests.

Another interesting 'change up' concept for both games would be to give a changing alternate ending scenario by providing a way to stop the two game changing moments: Kefka's victory over Geshtal, and Sephiroth's killing of Aerith. You'd really get all the FFVII fanboys into a mad frenzy if you tell them not is the game being remade but they'll have a chance to save Aerith this time!

I wouldn't mind an FFVII remake. Just update the game's graphics and character models, re-translate the script, work out some balancing issues, (seriously, Big Guard and White Wind are stupidly overpowered in that game) and I'll be happy.

Squeenix might as well remake a game we know is good.

It's not like they've made anything worth playing lately.

Even "changing things" would probably be an upgrade from their current line of products.

They just need to do this, and everything will work out fine.

Woah holy shit, Sqeenix needs to hire that guy for menu design.

And the sad thing is that this most likely would be a hell of a lot better than what the remake might be.

To clarify my post - I saw article. I read. I like. I comment. I comment some more. I THEN got bored of discussion and decide to leave, thus my above post. I was not bored of the topic prior to commenting but I'm glad that your misinterpretation of my meaning [as often happens and probably will happen until the end of time on the internetz] kept you entertained.

A remake of this game gets brought up on probably a monthly if not a daily basis. It's a curiosity as the thing would print money if they did a HD remake without touching anything.

So, so true, and yet SE would rather throw money into pits and see if people would still buy it. They are in debt thanks to the earthquake right? I really don't see a downside to this >.> just keep the code and get a graphics team, doesn't even have to be all that great of a graphics team.... oh wait! They already have some models to go on from all the side things, like AC/DC/the psp thingy.... >.> This is all just bait isn't it? they have an HD version and they keep it locked up for someone like Indiana Jones to break in and go "This belongs to the Final Fantasy Fans!" and steals it and does some cool exit or what ever... >.>;;;

But the remakes are. The FFX remake proves that.

And if they were talking about FFX, that would make sense.

I'll concede when I see cold hold facts that it is indeed a proper remake, but until then...

The game was a mediocre, poorly-translated piece of shlock, peppered with bland and one-dimensional characters and an-at times-confusing plot. The soundtrack was fantastic, but thats expected from FF, pretty much. FF9 had far better characters who actually developed and a better plot. Plus a protagonist who wasn't a whiney douche and an antagonist who didn't feel incredibly forced.
