I already promised myself I would never buy another CoD game and this just makes me even happier I made that decision.

Kotick has now commited career suicide.
Not really. As long as the company continues to make piles of cash his job security is better than mine. Which says a lot. The board and shareholders don't care if he keeps sounding off like a jackass.
I have my lingering doubts it will actually be put into effect. But if it does, there are enough mindless drones out there to make it profitable. Can kiss any more single-player CoD's goodbye. Though I think we did that with MW2.

No it won't.

I'll buy a hat and eat it if the vast majority of their players don't bend over and take it.

They don't want quality, they don't want substance, they want REALLY pretty and nobody provides that better than Activision. So they'll keep buying their games.

I don't recall when purchasing this game that it had a statement on the box that a monthly fee would be required. Therefore they should refund everyone who feels misled into making their purchase of CoD:MW2.
I know I would welcome the chance to get my money back as do most others who feel ripped off now.

Wait, doesn't the company already have enough money from the millions who bought the game to make back to expenses that went into making the game? If so, this is further proof of corporate greed.

But really, if the avid Call of Duty fans woke up tomorrow, booted up Modern Warfare 2, and saw that they needed to pay to play, how many would actually do so? If public reception is incredibly hostile (especially for those that already have to pay for Xbox Live on top of this subscription fee), Kotick might have an angry mob of gamers on his hands.

EDIT: Also, "this is what the fans want"? Maybe he should have propositioned the idea before letting his own opinion make the decision in place of those who will have to pay.

Seriously, how does this guy stay in the position of head honcho? I'd have started a company riot by now.

Well now terrorist groups won't have to go out into the desert to train, they can do it all on CoD Online! All courtesy of Bobby Kotick.

Regretabbly, I don't think so. Enough lemmings people bought the mappack for $15. If even a fraction of those will shell out money every month, it'll be profitable.

Here's the thing, I won't pay money every month, not even for a real MMO. I can live comfortably without Activision games, and I'm sure the same is true for other people. If you disagree with shitforbrains Kotick, don't buy any more games from that idiotic publisher.
I agree with you on this I think as gamers we need to speak with our wallets and not buy into this shit, rather than starting boycotts and pettitions and then buying the game anyways just avoid all activision games until we see some sign of improvement from them.

Totally.

I hear a calling.... It's a game where i only have to pay for two things(Actual Game + Live); rather than three.

So, he expects people to pay £50+ ($60, however many euros that is) for 5 - 10 hours of entertainment, £10 more if it's a slightly marked down second hand copy, AND then charge a MONTHLY FEE to flesh out the crap content it has so you can slightly extend the value of the game against wave after wave of adoloscent turds? Perhaps if it was a monthly subscription for XBox live, or whatever it is called (if it doesn't have that already, I'm not sure), so you could play every online game for however long you've paid for, but on a per game basis? Who do you think we are? I for one wouldn't be particularly pleased having to pay £100 for a single, shitty, non innovative game that just fuels the monolith that churns out this crap.

Asscricket - that's the first time I've ever heard that word and it's had me in stitches. Though getting back onto topic, I don't think MS will allow Mr Kotick to get away with this. Seeing that one has to pay a subscription fee to play any kind of multiplayer over X-box Live. (Gold)

Such a measure will look bad for not only the CoD franchise, but this will directly affect X-box Live subscriptions, too. Because gamers will think something along the lines of "I'm not paying three times to play multiplayer. (Once, for the game, twice for Live and three times for Mr Kotick's personal subscription.)
On the contrary, MS tried to force Square Enix to make sure that ONLY Gold users could subscribe to FF14 unlike FF11 where you could subscribe with only a Silver account. That's why there's no FF14 for the 360 coming. MS will let Activision do this.

How wonderfully up-front of him, I must say.

I wonder how well this'll turn out. Treyarch seemed to be doing alright with their newest title for now I guess...but with something like this deciding to just ream itself up the product well...if Activision marketing division manages to brainwash everyone into doing it, it might actually work. But on the other hand if it fails then well...heh...I'll enjoy the drama that'll come from that!

What happened? Sure I was a little late to the scene and my first CoD game was 4, but damn those were good times, then with MW2 being a clusterfuck of imbalance, Infinity Ward "disbanding" and now this garbage, thank god I've switched from my CoD days on Xbox to my current TF2 & CS:S ones on PC

Seriously Kotick, I don't like Cod that much. It wouldn't be a big deal to drop Cod at the next turn and pick up something else. I don't think any FPS means that much.

Subscription-based Call of Duty?! Don't they already make enough money off of the series?

Wow... I'll definitely be sticking to Bad Company 2.

Would it be on top of an xbox live subscription or not? If so, I can't see anyone going for it. Sadly, if not people will probably go along with it. I am very glad I've given up cconsole gaming.

"Many people want this" - yes, you and all of your share holders. *Que lots of profanities....*

Regardless as to whether this 'feature' is on CoD 7: Body Odour or not, I think this man has finally convinced me to never ever buy CoD again (unless, by some miracle, IW/Respawn win the rights to CoD....)
All the recent news on CoD:BO has made me less inclined to rent it, let alone buy it (Eminem supplying this 'mucic' >_>)
But this? Xbox live. 40 quid a year. This - a possible £15 - screw that.

And, I would say boycot - but, I think everyone can still remember just how well that went when the PC gamers tried it on MW2....

If someone could accidentally order an airstrike or artillery bombardment onto Acti's offices, I think every gamer on the planet would rejoice....
