I don't think MS will allow Mr Kotick to get away with this. Seeing that one has to pay a subscription fee to play any kind of multiplayer over X-box Live. (Gold)
final fantasy 11, my friend, you pays your live and you pays your squeenix. and the game aint even that good.
(opinion folks, be kind)

OT, this would stop me from wanting to play CoD. I dont play many MMOGs because of the pay per month structure, thank you Guild Wars for being sensible on my wallet.

Wait I don't get it... Is Kotick going to make us pay to play call of duty online? I'm not paying monthly to play a single game when I have several other options, specifically Halo and Battlefield. He's going to be the first to do this and the first to ruin a successful franchise by doing so.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Infinity Ward create Call of Duty? and didn't the CEO's of Infinity ward leave Activision (and Kotick) and press for a lawsuit after people attempted to fire them?

So shouldn't Call of Duty be in the hands of Infinity Ward (now Respawn Entertainment I believe)not Kotick? meaning he has no right to do this?

Or does Activision and Kotick have rights to CoD Modern Warfare 2 but no other in which case if Respawn Entertainment made Modern Warfare 3 (Or indeed when they make their next CoD game) with free online play Kotick would be royaly screwed?

^^ I read most of the details of Infinity war and Respawn Entertainment on the internet/forum so it may not be reliable however still gives hope.
That's part of the lawsuit. Activision owns Call of Duty as the publisher, but IW/Respawn might own the Modern Warfare brand. It's very murky.

I'd like to pose a hypothetical question to people: If, for instance, paying a subscription meant you got more content updates more frequently for free, would it be worth it for you?

So right now, you pay fifteen bucks to download a map pack every what, six months? Would you pay five bucks a month for the same-sized map pack every three months?

It sounds sketchy, and it may well be, but the tradeoff for paying a monthly fee for MMOGs has always been you get constant content updates.

He says audiences are clamoring for it? What the hell?! What audiences where? Kotick, you stupid fuck, stop making an ass of yourself. There are no people anywhere clamoring for a COD subscription fee.

Ok, i want someone to interview kotickwhatever and ask him 1) how exactly he wants to pull that off, 2) how he thinks it improves the costumers experience (getting rid of all the xboxlive douchebags?) and 3) if he really thinks that this is a smart move. seriously, i want to know.

Mr Kotick makes for a poor poster boy. Does goodwill mean anything to these people.

This is exactly what corporations are doing to the future of gaming, turning gaming into a milk cow, while creating more and more repetitive, boring, shitty games.

Thanks alot assholes, thanks alot Microshit, thanks alot Sony, thanks alot Nintendo, thanks alot EA!

Maybe you bastards will finally be happy when you have turned this once awesome gaming industry into nothing more than a Hollywood clone.

And by Hollywood clone I mean all flash no substance.
It's not the companies who are at fault, they are simply providing what people are willingly paying for.

Seriously, is anyone surprised by this? Activision is evil incarnate and Kotick probably eats lunch with Satan daily.

The day they charge a subscription fee is the day I stop playing CoD. Where the hell are they getting the idea that people would actually pay to play this game so much? What would I pay for? Danger close noob tubing? Commando? The only thing it has going for it is the fact that it is a well designed and addicting game, that is it. I have been looking for a reason to sell the game and they just gave it to me. I have fun with the online game sometimes, but this is freaking retarded. Kottick may have just sinlgehandedly destroyed CoD.

This type of thing makes me relieved that I don't enjoy Call of Duty games, because if I did enjoy them I'd be victim to Kotick's bullshit.

Why has it become so hard to simply be allowed to enjoy a game nowadays? Remember in the old days when you bought a game, unwrapped it, put it in your console/PC and that was it? You could enjoy it? Now with shippings of unfinished games and money-grabbing corporations trying to squeeze gamers out of every penny, its a constant battle between gamers and developers.

God damnit, I used to enjoy playing Xbox 360, but know I've realised just how much money I have to waste to enjoy it fully fucks me right off.

EDIT: Also, "audiences are clamouring for it?" Yes Kotick, please charge us extra, we need to be, otherwise all this money we have will simply be wasted on products not owned by Activision

Nope, he bought all the rights to the Franchise. Respawn Entertainment technically can't go anywhere near CoD because they left Activision.

This is actually an excellent idea, and I applaud him for it. I'd be very happy to pay for the privilege of being able to play such excellent games online.

Well, good thing I have little to no interest in Call of Duty multiplayer anyway, and only moderate interest in their campaign and co-op modes.
