Then Game Investor Analysts that are not Nick Gibson are doing their job.

A Twilight videogame would be a demographic mismatch of epic fail proportions.

That's not to say there wouldn't be people in the demo-graph that would play it. Only that there isn't enough people who would play it to justify and recoup the expense of such a game being developed, let alone turn a profit.

Twilight Scene-it was probably be pretty cheap to develop, and did sell quite a bit.

Is it just me, or did anyone else automaticly think 'Japanese Dating Sim' when they thought of a Twilight game?
Actually, you may be on to something.

Face, meet desk.
This is an outrage! (Outrage? THIS IS SHEPAAAAAAAAAARD *boom headshot*)

Anyway, I believe it's a horrible idea, because it would be a shitty game, and wouldn't sell well.
And Kratos would disembowel you. Again.

I'd like to see the QTE's that the game would have:
Press X to sparkle
Press Y to not suck blood
Press LB to make all teenage girls nearby by squeal
Oh oh I know! God of War: Edward's Sparkle Diet Squeal Time! With Kratos replaced by Edward, who goes into a ravenous sparkle-filled rage, only to NOT do what a normal vampire does. And his finishing move makes all the women in the room squeal in (oh God I'm calling it this) . . . glory.

Because it would be virtually impossible to make a game of it?

I mean, it would likely consist of:

Press X to stalk girl 90 years younger than you

Press O to be angsty

Press R1 to fantasise about Edward.

More people should learn that what's successful in one form of media =/= successful in all.

There is a massive difference between costing the industry money and the industry failing to make money. NOT making a game doesn't cost anyone anything. Making a game that fails entirely because it is totally retarded costs the industry money.

Unfortunately, the only sort of game that could come out of twilight would be a dating sim. Just like the book series is self-insertion fantasy for desperate teenage girls, a game based in that same universe would have to be a self-insertion fantasy game for desperate teenage girls.

Unfortunately, being that the target videogame audience is males ages 16-24, it wouldn't be worth the cost of making the game. It would fail horribly.

Any attempt to make an action game or RPG or anything of the sort would be so far removed from the source material that Twilight fans would not be interested in it because it is too much like a video game and non-twilight fans would not like it because it is too much like twilight. Look at the debacles that have been movies-made-into-games throughout the history of gaming and it's obvious what I mean.

So, I strongly disagree with what was expressed in this article. There is not acceptable target demographic for a game about the Twilight series. Just because a thing has a rabid following doesn't mean it would make for a successful game. When was the last time you played that game based on Lost? Never. You know why? Because it was shit.

for once, I don't feel ashamed to say this: that game would be teh gayz lol. I have a fealing that the game makers realize 1) half of the "twilight moms" hate video games with a passion and that 2) no actual person who plays video games would take that company seriously again.

Well then if this guy is so content on Twilight getting it's own video game he should make a design document and propose it to Zynga and have it made on facebook where a majority of the twilight fans congregate.

Ignoring the potential cash winfall, is it really worth sacrificing the integrity of the industry?

The headline is misleading, as the industry wouldn't see any benefit, whoever made the abomination would. The makers of charming indie games do not see direct financial benefit from the existence of World of Warcraft after all.

Personally I choose to view the lack of a Twilight game as a triumph of good taste over greed. There is no possible way any game based on shit could turn out to be not shit, and any developer willing to stoop to that level deserves our constant and unrelenting mockery forever - something I think they know.

Make a Twilight videogame and you will be the company that makes Twilight games forever - you cannot earn back your good reputation, and if you didn't have one to start with you will NEVER get one now.

No. Just no (avatar goes off in search of Edward after realizing his father is not the epitomy of evil, but this sparkly hack who can't even be described as a proper vampire).

I work at a major video game chain and this new Twilight: Scene It? game is more than enough. I used a stapler to put the games away because I didn't want to touch them. And I've had their faces staring at me all day when I work there because of the display box orientation.
When I regrettably have to sell one I'm going to say: "Sorry I can't sell you this, I don't condone torture/self harm."

Yes, because young women's literature hasn't been horribly tainted by Twilight enough, now we need to accept to poison the video games industry with blatant sexism, racism and Mormon propaganda. Wait. Fuck, the first two are already kinda in some games...fine. Stop the Mormon propaganda then.

You know, even though video games is a capitalist industry, yet gods developers and publishers, take a hint from Ayn Rand. Be PROUD of your work, don't shell out to a terrible franchise just to continue to fuel an awful part of pop culture and make a few quick bucks.

Now comes the question. If you can make money from an idea, does that mean it is the right thing to do so?

On a slightly related matter next month there is a "Twilight day" at the cinema where I work. All employees are encouraged (read: forced) to get into the spirit of the event by dressing up, or participating in the fun and games. Therefore I shall go into work wearing...

Somehow, I think a Twilight game could work... As a date sim game, not some crappy adventure-action movie tie-in that we always see. Girls would fall over themselves for the chance to date Edward or Jacob or whatever and live out their vampire rape fantasies.

Or would that just make the fandom even more rabid and obsessive over fictional characters?
It would make them more rabid. Just think about going into your favourite game store, it's a beautiful day out and you just got a paycheck and/or raise, and you have a little money to spend. You walk in and realize that it's completely clogged with legions of rabid Twilight fans, and you can hardly get to the game you wish to buy because they are chattering amongst themselves about their favourite characters and 'which side wins: Edward or Jacob'.

Actually, I find if you say that Edward and Jacob have a secret love affair somewhere when Bella isn't there, you get great reactions from fans. Ah, good times...

Because the games industry still has some standards.
I totally agree with you. The games industry can throw some pretty low punches (see Ubisoft DRM) but even they would sink as low as making a mainstream Twilight game.

Nonsense.

There are actually a lot of pc-owners, wo like coke, but that doens't make them produce video games. Just because some consumer interessts overlap doen't qualify them for usage in games.
This is an excellent point.
