Except, as people have pointed out, xfire is not used by many users, skewing the figures heavily.

I liked LoL, though the community drove me to find other games to play, but these numbers seem off.
Yeah, I agree with this. None of the people in my guild use Xfire that I know of, and quite a few of them (myself included) have clocked positively embarrassing amounts of time in WoW.

Not to mention that currently, an end-game raiding guild in WoW really only needs to be playing for about four-five hours a week to make progress through the current raid. Less end-game content = More people doing older things or achievements = more people not logging on as often anymore once they've exhausted all of those things.

I used to be a LoL player like you

But then I got a Dota 2 invite and I pretty much dropped the game entirely.

yeah these statistics are using X-fire and I don't know anyone who uses X-fire for WoW.
(I don't really know anyone that uses it that much period.)
Personally I can't wait for Dota 2 to come out,Its F2P model is SOOOOO(Emphasis on the O.)much better.
Plus if LoL has this many players and are making millions why don't they you know.. buy better servers because being 3001 in que isn't fun.

Too bad it's not as good as Dota2... That shit is pure crack.
Eh. It's OK.
My problem is that I played the original DotA to death (I do mean the ORIGINAL. Starting with Eul's map on W3:RoC).

I just wished that Icefrog had gotten around to making his own content rather than just doing a note-for-note remake of the game on a new engine.

Or it would be if Valve let anyone besides elitists play it. And yet they're still calling it an "open beta" even though they're not giving out invites any more. No wonder people prefer LoL over Dota 2 - they're actually allowed to play it.

LoL is free and WoW is 15 a month. honestly whats surprising about this?
And WoW has been in a slow decline since BC that accelerated with the release of Cata.
WoW has been on a slow decline since BC? WoW peaked during Wotlk
Everyone I ever played with has said that BC was when WoW was it's best. The beginning of Wotlk was fun, but after Ulduar, the decline hit hard and a lot of people I used to play with lost interest.

Well I was talking about the population count. I like it when people act like because them and their friends quit, most of the population did the same.
Except the two best guilds on my server broke apart and half of them quit, a lot of the people that I used to joke around with on trade chat stopped playing, pugs were harder to set up, and my own guild suffered hard in ToGC to ICC due to a lack of good players to fill raids with.

I'm not saying WoW declined after BC because my friends and I quit, I quit a month into Cata and only really started playing WoW in wotlk. In fact, I think Ulduar was the most fun I ever had in WoW and still miss it. I'm saying WoW declined after BC because it actually did. You always see a surge of players at the start of an expansion or when a new raid comes out, but wotlk just didn't have the same surge that BC did.

You are aware you can buy a beta key from their store for 40 bucks? It also comes with cosmetics if you really, really want early access.

There are also daily competitions on playdota to pick up a key. Hell I signed up on that and the next day I got keys.

The only reason why its not open to access yet, is that they aren't ready for the flood of people to join yet. They are still setting up servers, its even stated in their FAQ if you bothered to read it. If people really want to play it while its still in beta, they can just wait to get a key or buy one, its not hard.

Doesn't really surprise me.

Edit: I didn't even talk about how douchey the high level players of LoL are compared to any other game on this list. Even CoD players are more civil to each other than LoL players.
Figured I'd chime in and note levels in LoL don't really matter too much. They're more of an enforced learning period. ELO is what matters, and high ELO players tend to be a lot more civil and have a lot less trolls.

High ranking* players. For example, I'd say LiquidRet is a high level (high ranking) player in Starcraft 2.
Everyone that I know who plays LoL tells me how douchey the higher ranked players are. One friend of mine got disconnected from his game and when he went to rejoin, he wasn't able to play for 30 minutes because of some temporary ban on him because they reported him for dropping (or something along those lines).

I forget what thread I saw on these boards that supported my claim of LoL player doucheyness.

Whenever I see LoL games or any other MOBA, I can't help but think that almost all the heroes look like WC3 sprites; heroes from the ORIGINAL DotA. I played the shit out of that game, Magic Killing Illidan with Butterfly was so much fun zomg.

XFIRE? What's wrong with Steam?

Seriously, get the logs of how many hours TF2 has been played.

Yes, I know LoL is free-to-play
So is Lord of the Rings Online and that isn't even on the list.
Well Lotro isn't 100% F2P (pretty far from it) whilst there is content that cost some money in LoL too.

On Topic:
Heroes of Newerth is 4th on the list??
funny, most my friends are HoN players and they are telling me that's a lot more popoular...

...WoW is still higher. No one playing WoW uses xfire anymore.

Get the statistics straight from the developers/more reliable sources or this is just here-say. LoL is far easier to log than an MMO.

I know the amount of people playing LoL is extremely high, but I can guarantee you that nowhere near as many WoW players are using tracker programs like x-fire as you think if you believe that is a valid number.

Wanna know how I personally know this? Back in the way when of early Cata I had to use X-fire for a purpose, I asked nearly every representative of every guild I was in (I've become an unofficial guild ambassador of my server) at the time who used it.

...None.

That is nearly every major guild on my half of the server. 40 people in each guild x 6. That's a fair assessment of your average WoW player.
If you were to take all the characters logged in the last year, create a program that checked their /played hours of that year and add them all up, I think that might create a more realistic number.

Also. Bots. I bet Bots inflate the numbers on ALL of these, but I get the feeling LoL has a more prevalent problem.

this
if tf2 doesn't show up in your top 10 played PC games you are doing something wrong.
