Well, it's not a secret that WoW is in slow decline these past couple of months, so it's not that hard to believe. Hell, even I started playing LoL.

Still isn't as good as the time CoD 4 was more played a week than WoW on xfire.
*sigh* How I miss those days :(

To be honest , lots of players playing lots of hours doesnt mean jack... its popular because its free and has good marketing but is it good ?

I like it, but find it hard to fire up these days because its a mess community wise, it on par with the DotA crowd troll and ragewise... if not more so.
You can find some seriously sick psychotic dregs of humanity lurking in that game...at all levels.

Anonimous + Internet + Team dependant game = Asshats multiplied by morons squared by elitist jerks and added to lacklustre control over player behaviour by the now Chinese owned developer ( who are never short on a sale or 10 though, so sorry you got trolled 20 out 25 games have a new Teemo skin for only 25 dolla )

...aargh , see even I am raging at just the description of a game, but it is so very fun when you get a good match,

I want to play DOTA2 , but its like LoL community plus learning the game equals horrible experiences.
Example -
DOTA2 pro : Noob , learn to play
ME: I am you moron, thats why I am in the new player level, what are YOU doing here ?
DOTA2 pro : Report Noob for unskilled play.
ME: Yeah, report a new player, playing at new player skill level for being a new player.. yeah sounds about right.

If you are going to try LoL / Hon / Smite / DOTA2 or any of these types...be prepare, and get a really thick skin buff, burning out your eyes helps too.
I never had this sort of problems with Lol, HoN, and Dota.

Story time.
My friends made me play Lol (Lol was my first Moba) fist thing i did was, go to the forums, look for guides.
I read at least 3.
"Ok, this game sounds neat and has a nice gameplay." I thought.
I played some matches, and then bought my first champion, Annie.

"Ok" I thought to myself "now i need to know how i play her!"
That's when i found Solomid.net (That's why i'm a TSM fan today)
That's ok, i read a guide about her.
I play her the way i should and have fun, no one get's mad with me. That's nice!

Of course there will always be the douchbag, or people will get mad at you when you get outplayed, but that's normal, and i don't give a damn about these situations.
The problem here is that Lol, is a free game, Most people, just want to play, they don't want to GET better at the game, they are the casual gamer, get in, have 1-2 matches, get out.

Most people get angry at those people, other are just idiots or kids that get angry at anything.
After Lol, i played Dota and HoN a little. You can guess what i did before playing the games.

I'm not saying that you did that, and people got angry with you because of that.
I'm just saying a fact.

Most people on FREE games don't give a damn about the gameplay, or about trying to get better, etc. They just want to play the game and have some fun.

Edit: I didn't even talk about how douchey the high level players of LoL are compared to any other game on this list. Even CoD players are more civil to each other than LoL players.
Figured I'd chime in and note levels in LoL don't really matter too much. They're more of an enforced learning period. ELO is what matters, and high ELO players tend to be a lot more civil and have a lot less trolls.
High ranking* players. For example, I'd say LiquidRet is a high level (high ranking) player in Starcraft 2.
Everyone that I know who plays LoL tells me how douchey the higher ranked players are. One friend of mine got disconnected from his game and when he went to rejoin, he wasn't able to play for 30 minutes because of some temporary ban on him because they reported him for dropping (or something along those lines).

I forget what thread I saw on these boards that supported my claim of LoL player doucheyness.
Reporting in LoL doesn't work like that. Reports don't instantly do anything. You go up for peer review, and then if another player says you did something to get banned or whatever punishment for, then the report goes to the staff at Riot to look over before anything happens. You won't see any punishment until several hours after.

Now, if you're in a lobby for a game and quit(, the game adds a wait timer on you until' you can join a new game to prevent people from trolling by joining and quitting at the last second(queue times can be long at higher ELO). If you disconnect from the lobby, the game will auto-select your champion and you can still get into the game, though it might screw your team over. Also, if you go AFK in the middle of the game, the game itself may temporarily ban you. Again, this is to prevent trolls.

*edit* Oh yeah, and if the game ended before he tried to reconnect, he would've gottena temporary ban for that too. Again, it weeds out trolls.

well I mean, the reason is totally obvious
League of Legends is FREE
I mean, it's a good game, and I love it to death, and it totally deserves this
but the reason it is beating a majority of the games listed is because they are not free!

I am not getting casual players... I have been on LoL for quiet a while, got a pack of champions, spent money on RP. It was much nicer when I started, the community as a whole was more friendly but for some reason it had degraded sharply in my experience, perhaps due to more publicity, perhaps due to some wanting to play DOTA2 but its not out yet ?
I do know that I am meeting some very unfriendly players more these days than not.

4 out of 4 games last night, ragers trolls leavers whiners...3 out 3 today, a whiner ( claimed a kill was stolen, went on a QQ binge )then a rager ( didnt gank till late then suddenly went for ganks and got counter ganked, raged at me for the rest of the game ) , finally a AFK'er ( a Lee Sin , died once at level 3 AFK since... but we won because 3 of the enemy went AFK after trying beat us for 20 min , then the rest surrendered).

I dont mind losing, I just hate being raged on or players raging on others... its pointless and it doesnt help at all, just the opposite actually. I lose all interest in the match when a rager starts, then I am sort of meh in fights. Ignore doesnt help because when you want to ignore its because a rager has started... you know its a messed up match , even if you ignore.

Except, as people have pointed out, xfire is not used by many users, skewing the figures heavily.

I liked LoL, though the community drove me to find other games to play, but these numbers seem off.
Is there any moba that doesn't have a completely shitastic community?

LoL is free and WoW is 15 a month. honestly whats surprising about this?
And WoW has been in a slow decline since BC that accelerated with the release of Cata.
I thought their numbers peaked during Wrath?

Or are we talking "I didn't like it after BC!" kind of decline?
Yep thats the one. As I said in another post, the surge of new players that comes with every new raid, just wasn't as surge-y in wotlk

Interesting that a DotA clone, particularly one as poorly done as LoL, is so popular. From what I played of it, it seemed to have no appeal to public gamers at all due to the imbalanced permanent skill tree (the old 'unlock blink, cannot be beaten by teams that haven't yet' trick).

I tried LoL but couldn't get into it. The community was very rude to me and, not that I haven't played RTSs before but it was rediculous how degrading the community was when I was learning. I didn't even know what hero to be so I picked one I found visually appealing but apparently it was not the right one. I don't know. I suppose I'll stick to SC2 and Civ.

Oh my. I've been playing that game feverishly for the past few months. Even dropped some coin to get some nice champions. I'm a statistic! AHHHHH! I'm actually sort of happy I'm playing a popular game that I also happen to like. Having been in plenty of real life losing teams with real life sore losers. Braggarts. And other such dreggs I find league of legends to be small potatoes. It's almost fun how it's really no different than other team game in that respect.

Now that it's the most played MMO(ish) game ever knocking World of Warcraft off it's throne of all things. That of course means that means the game should start exploding with content. Riot? How about it? New map for PVP? I think yes. The magma chamber. It wants a second chance. It would have told you herself but she's very shy. You gave her up for dominion I hear. Broke her heart it did.

Yes, I know LoL is free-to-play which means that it's uncompatible with everything else, but still.
WoW is basically free to play as well (up to a certain point). And I'm pretty sure WoW has private servers as well, which are not accounted for in this (but I'm pretty sure that's reasonable).

Hehe, and I am not playing any of those games.
Interesting to see, though. WoW is ancient in game-years by now and while no longer the top dog, it's still holding its own. Impressive.

Oh, I played it as well. In fact, I've been playing it for years, with breaks every now and then...still, it somewhat surprised me. It's notorious for a lot of bad things, but I still thought it had more of a niche audience. Then again, I've only ever been able to play MapleStory Europe...

Ah you have been fortunate then.

Before MS Europe existed the 'Global' (Now North America only) was for everyone who wasn't playing in Korea and Singapore/Malaysia, it seems all the dregs got mixed into that pot and formed the douche-bag clan.

I played Europe a little bit but it was lagging behind Global for a very long time when I did so I didn't make the transition permanent, back when getting to level 60 was an impressive feat it would have been extremely annoying to loose my character and start over.

My account on Global is still valid and I could pick it up again if I wanted but... egh. No.
I'm past that. Too many people with artificially extended E-Penises.

There's alot of players on Maple South East Asia, Maple Korea and Japan, and Maple US.
Europe... well I haven't been on it since launch but it didn't blow me away with the amount of people on it.

It's a charming game it's just, covered in so much crap. :(

Glad to see the free to play games doing so well on the list. Looks like I'm not the only person who decided they want to get away from paying to play a game every month even if you only played a few hour each month.

More exciting was that World of Tanks made the list. I've been having a lot of fun playing the game and the game play has been good enough that I don't mind paying for some extra stuff in the game. It just seems better to plan out when I want to buy the extras instead of having to deal with a monthly bill for the game after paying a good deal for a copy of the game in the first place.

Hopefully this moves the market even harder to the free to play model instead of the monthly bill model.
