You may not like it. You may not agree with it. But his line of thinking and those of the megacorps are completely in sync. This video is proof.
Not that Bob didn't make some good points, loath as I am to admit it, but "proof" seems a bit strong.
You don't shell out that kind of dough without a concrete pitch or brand to go with it. Microsoft is serious about this.
This is worse than even Xbox, it has all the negative things of Xbox but NONE of the positive, this is more like some failed Wii/iPod rip-off lowest common denominator bullshit.dragongit said:Hey Look! Microsoft wants to turn the PC into the Xbox! I'll be busy using steam, thank you very much.
You see no reason to think they'll dismiss core gamers? Really? How about the material shown here. This is the big announcement about the future of PC gaming Microsoft have been gabbling about for months now. This is the announcement which signals their return to considering the PC an important platform. This is the announcement we were told would signal a new golden age for PC gaming. And what is the announcement? What does it say to a core gamer on the PC platform? It says: We wish you were a 360 gamer, but since we can't make you be one, we'll just have to make do with this instead.Trolldor said:Actually... I don't think this will necessarily be a bad idea.
Microsoft is opening the gamer market to casual gamers, but I see no reason to think they're going to dismiss 'hardcore' gamers.
The main problems don't rest with what's been displayed, but whether they're going to force you to update in order to play a game and whether they're going to force you to use a matchmaking service as opposed to picking from a server list.
Nothing caught my attention like the author's addressing the misspelling of "pwn3d." While I do enjoy some internet slang and others may accuse me of nomenclatural nitpicking when I differentiate geeks from nerds, to me "pwn," "epic fail," "TL;DR" and "full of win" represent those within the community who arbitrarily assign their selves a baseless sense of intellectual elitehood based on their perceived ability to win a debate about Star Trek physics and dilithium crystals. They represent those who woefully foretell the death of console gaming or the bleak future of PC gaming. All of which, of course, is pure bullshit.Andy Chalk said:Leaked Microsoft Video Reveals Horrible Future for PC Gaming
An internal Microsoft video showing the company's dark, horrific vision for the future of the "Windows Gaming Experience" has found its way onto YouTube [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBPYdgy35KA&feature=player_embedded]. [Caution: not for the faint of heart.]
That which is seen cannot be unseen, which is a real shame when it comes to things like this video created by Microsoft that details the company's plan for a connected, social, casual gaming experience characterized by bright colors, microtransactions and ceaseless interaction with online "friends." The importance of Avatars, representing the "style, attitude and character" of each person's online identity, is a big point of emphasis, as is the ability to easily search for, find and share new games and media across multiple platforms.
The focus here is clearly on the casual market. The video kicks off with Battlefield 2 [http://www.farmville.com/] by buying him a better gun and then immediately misspells "pwn3d."
I don't even know what to say here. Maybe I'm being overly harsh, or maybe I'm bitter because I'm feeling left out, but if this is what Microsoft means when it talks about taking the PC seriously as a gaming platform, I think I'll just go back to watching television.

Welcome to the Escapist! You arrived just in time - as the video clearly shows, everything good is dying.Lola0188 said:I already wanna rage quit.
