Fallout 3...... the ending was bad enough, but not letting you play on after it like Oblivion did killed it for me.
yeah same. i was only level 14 and i had like 3/4 of the side quests yet to finish (i was even half way through a side-quest when i decided that, in a moment of passionate vengeance, that i wanted to finish the main quest and help bring the plant online. i was satisfied with myself up until the very second that i pressed 'ENTER' on the console and control was taken away from me.
So i played it a second time...i learned that additionally, Fallout 3 has a very horrible way of somehow managing to complete main quests for you while you play through those side-quests that somehow remotely relate to the main story (as in, going to the same places). it annoyed the shit out of me when i found myself at galaxy news radio facing a supermutant behemoth and 50 other supermutants at level 4 WITHOUT the fat man to grab off the power-armoured corpse. i think the game is flawless other than the fact that its main quest-line is way, way, way too intrusive. as a player who just likes to explore a world and absorb every little subtle detail of information, i don't like being pushed into corners and purposefully avoiding some locations just because talking to the people there would mean being glued to the final missions of the main story. it has its glitches and bugs too, but i guess no game is perfect..

halo 3 has been the biggest biggest disappointment to me, because it's the last game, i have no idea if we'll ever see the master chief ever again. that saddens me to no end!

I don't doubt a good portion of the posters here said Assassin's Creed, but honestly, that was the first time in a while that I actually stared at the screen wide-eyed & felt like I was gonna involuntarily smash it in with my head.

(SPOILER ALERT) Half-Life 1 and 2, I mean their great games, in my top 10 to be honest but in the end (SPOILER ALERT)

Once you beat the final boss in HL1 you get teleported into a tram and Gman tells you to get off it or he'll OWN YO ASS, you get off and THE END
and in HL2 you get esploded off the top of a giant tower. then time pauses and the same prick starts giving you a lecture. THE FUCKIN END
Looks like someone never played the episodes.

I'm not sure about which video game ending is the worst, though, mainly because I play 10 games at the same time and never finish them.

EDIT:

It is possible they'll make another one. MC is still there, just frozen in a cryo pod. Or tube, whichever it is.

I have two. MGS 2 and 4.
MGS2's just like "yeah, everything you just did in the last 6 hours is just a simulation, nothing you did matters at all."
And nanomachines. Fucking nanomachines.

The least satisfying game ending I've ever seen was the ending for Crackdown. All that happened was a very short cutscene, and then the game just pops back up to the gameplay. Only problem with this is, you've already killed everyone, so there isn't anything left to do. At least I found out you can start over again with your fully leveled up character.

I got to thinking about this topic earlier today and decided to post again, so here it goes...

TBQH, a game with amazing gameplay and a totally immersive story that walk hand in hand should be appreciated for what it is, a game. If they spent all the time trying to come up with a "unique" ending, and the gameplay or story sucks, then you're not even going to make it to the ending anyway.

How many really "unique" endings can you come up with anyway? I mean seriously. It's not like this shit writes itself. Video games and stories in general are almost always good vs. evil...

There's a protagonist and an antagonist. Neither really has to be a person, or anything tangible at all. But all conflict in story telling is set up as good vs. evil. With that constraint, of course you're going to have predictable endings. Ask any writer, the hardest part of writing is writing the ending.
I disagree. In Fallout 3 you have the option of being good, evil, slightly good, slightly evil or neutral. Admittedly the botched supersoldiers is a bit cliche, but they aren't evil they are just stoooopid and rageaholic. Also the bad guys want the same thing as the good guys and you are repeatedly told not to trust the good guys... Also both the good and bad guys want to eradicate the Ghouls, who are just ugly humans and not a threat unless provoked.
Uh... nope. When you choose to not put the mutant-killing agent in the water supply you're saving the ghouls, which is the most "good" path.

By "Good Guys" I meant the Brotherhood of Steel. Talk to whatshername outside of Underworld.

Halo 2's ending actually made me say "why are there credits here, THIS is how they ended it?"
Halo 3's kind of confused my simple mind, but it wasnt as bad
LoZ: Links Awakaning pissed me off to no end, and i would say that's about all

Fable 2. Seriously.. ONE BULLET!? You call yourself a last boss.

That just ruined the entire ending for me.

Another game that had a bit of an unsatisfying ending was Ace Combat 6. The story to that game wasn't exactly top notch, and it hurts that your character never speaks or is seen in a cut scene.

Nobody has mentioned Halo 2 yet? That's a surprise. I guess it's because now that 3 is out, it's not as big a deal...
Not entirely sure why people hate cliffhanger endings. Fair enough if its for the first game in a series and the developers dont know if they are going to make a sequel or not then the hatred is justified, but it was pretty obvious that halo was going to be a trilogy. Halo 2 ending with something along the lines of u just decimating the covernant would seem like a let down as they wouldnt appear as any type of threat. The way they left it is even tho they are somewhat crippled they are still very much a threat as they are right on earths doorstep. Just my oppinion of it anyway.
I agree. Cliff hangers are meant to be hated (well that's one way to put it), but as long as the next installment is good, it's forgivable (er, Matrix...)

This one game I found out there called Astro Squid. Was a fucked up game to start, then it ends with you fighting a salmon.
