Perhaps someone should make a thread about what games had excellent endings... I don't think it will hold quite as many titles at this thread!
I think you would be right there.

I know this has been mentioned a lot, but Super Mario 2 was an atrocious ending. All that work for nothing!

Here, let Brentalfloss of Screw Attack/Youtube explain it: http://www.screwattack.com/brentalfloss/SMB2

STALKER Clear Sky.

It was just...... what the fuck? I went through 5 hours of gameplay for this?
5 hours? God, must be really short, then.
A lot of games nowadays only have some 4-8 hours of gameplay. Clear Sky lasts longer if you decide to do a every side-mission and actually be bothered to do annoying ass faction wars.

Mirror's Edge. Yay you saved your sister but hey the city is still a shithole one of your friends is probably dead and the only other two that we know of betrayed you.

Hm, probably an attempt to appeal to the clueless idiot demographic, paraphrasing Yahtzee.

"cool, you helped us take over the world, wait here so we can kill you"

although we never actually saw him die, i'm just assuming

CoD 5: WaW

Partially due to the ending of CoD 4, which was presented in a superior way, making me see CoD 5's ending as leaving something to be desired.
I thought that the ending to CoD: WaW was kick ass. Seeing your sergeant hack a nazi to bits with a short sword was awesome.

First... Please stop complaining about Fallout 3's ending. The DLC is going to extend the storyline, and it's coming soon. So just wait. (BTW, it's called "Broken Steel DLC")

Second, SAINTS ROW. HOLY CRAP. (WARNING: Spoiler Ahead!!!!!!!!!!)

REALLY!?!? You're standing on a boat, and you just get BLOWN UP. I know that Saints Row 2 explained all of that, but still. YOU BLOW UP. And then the credits roll, without a single word to be said. Maybe the 100% completion ending is different, but it's not worth it...

Okay, changed my mind. The worst ending must be the one from Ghostbusters, for the NES. Here is what it said... (SPOILER!!!... I think)

"Conglaturations!!! (Yes, it wsa spelled like that)
You have just completed a great game.
Now go and rest our heroes!"

WTF. FAIL.

Empire Total War

Once you beat the grand campagin its just a message saying "Good Job"

The game is epic though.
That is something I've felt that's been missing ever since the first Medieval game. Why did they get rid of the epic speech you'd get at the end for each faction? Maybe it's just my nostalgia vision kicking in but I remember wanting to play through every single faction just to hear the speeches.

Yes. Yes I did. And the ending is oh so terrible. (Even though the Game Over screen for his Friday the 13th episode is far worse... and by worse I mean insulting... and by insulting I mean hilarious)

I seem to go on about these a lot but MGS4 and Resi 5. MGS4 just blurtedd out NANOMACHINES whenever it could and Resi 5's ending was so horribly corny and cliched that it was mortifiying, being a Resi veteran I can take the bad dialogue and acting but not one gung-ho prase after the other while the bad guy explodes in a volcano.

Gears of War 1 had a stupid ending. You're not dead, that's the whole ending, bravo, great resolution. There's also some monologue that's short, uninteresting, and completely not worth it.

Only Total War games I've played are Rome & Empire. One thing Rome has that Empire doesn't that I miss is the speech your general would give at the start of a battle.

Tie between

Kotor 2 (NO ending really at all. Felt like they said "Oh, Shit! We have to ship! Quick paste some text on and lets get paid."

NWN2 (Felt the exact same thing. Oh crap we are out of time! Quick, make them all die, we will call it a tragic ending!")

I think they made MOTB to TRY and fix what they did, but it came after.

SO far Obsidian has had two games that failed at the end, I hope that is not a trend.

Assassin's Creed. Finish the final boss, get a cutscene with about as much closure as a fucking Star Wars trailer and end credits.
Leaving something open to a sequel is one thing, leaving it more open than HMV's doors during the January sales is just bloody infuriating.
Well, to be honest, it was a great ending, because it made you know there was going to be a second, not only that but it left you on such a cliff hanger you WANT to get AC2, therefore it is a good ending in my book
