Yay importing! Australia's anti-gamer morons can't take their inflated self importance and shove it so far up their asses that it comes out their mouth.
While you're assuredly correct that the ACB is being inconsistent (Ninja Gaiden II (X360), Left 4 Dead (X360/PC), Fallout 3 (X360/PC/PS3)), you seem to misunderstand: The Australian Classification Board is not run by ministers of government, in any way. Representatives of the community are appointed to the board, which very regularly shuffles its membership. They follow guidelines set out in various laws, though I'm unsure when/where/how they were encoded, but take great effort to change.Dudeakoff said:The Australian classification board shows a remarkable lack of consistency, there are many games far worse then L4D2 that have been given a rating in Australia. Me thinks it's the government trying to get a high profile example of how they're saving the children from certain doom.
I'd argue all of these rating boards are patronizing and idiotic, but hey...Amnestic said:It's a little patronising to imply that people 15+ aren't capable of distinguishing between reality and fiction, and more than that distinguishing between a zombie and a living human.
Amnestic said:Steam games are region coded last I checked, which is why if a game is released earlier in NA than the EU, EU customers still have to wait 'til their date to get it off Steam (as far as I know), so the Steam version is the watered down version.fix-the-spade said:Silly question. Does STEAM count as a reatil store in Australia or is it American?
Surely there's a very neat sidestep there to let Aussies play L4D2 proper because STEAM isn't based in Australia, so technicaly the game need never be released in Aus...
With regards to Left 4 Dead 2 on Steam, there are actually multiple different versions. As far as I know, there are three: One for Australia, one for Germany, and one for the US/EU/Everywhere else which has a responsible ratings system. The Rockerfly said:Can you guys still get it via Steam? If not I will be very disappointed
Damn you Australian bored, you fucktards
In Australia, many people turn into mindless berserkers when a car alarm goes off. According to OFLC.Amnestic said:It's a little patronising to imply that people 15+ aren't capable of distinguishing between reality and fiction, and more than that distinguishing between a zombie and a living human.Malygris said:"The computer game contains a level of violence which is high in impact, prolonged, repeated frequently and realistic within the context of the game," the panel wrote in its decision [http://oflc.gov.au/www/cob/rwpattach.nsf/VAP/(3273BD3F76A7A5DEDAE36942A54D7D90)~Mediarelease-Left4Dead2-22October2009.pdf/$file/Mediarelease-Left4Dead2-22October2009.pdf]. "In addition, it was the Review Board's opinion that there was insufficient delineation between the depiction of general zombie figures and the human figures, as opposed to the clearly fictional 'infected' characters. This was a major consideration of the Review Board in determining the impact of this game on minors."
I doubt you could consider Call of Duty: World at War or Devil May Cry to be even fractionally as intense as Left 4 Dead 2's violence. Devil May Cry involves battle with nonhuman enemies who disintegrate when defeated, and physical decapitation/mutilation is quite rare. World at War... last I checked, didn't have melee weapons causing limbs to be broken and hacked off, and bone to be shown within the writhing wound of the still-living enemy. At least, I never saw that. Correct me if I'm wrong!Christemo said:ridicolously violent up the butt. they have obviously never heard of God of War, Devil May Cry and CoD: WaW.
anyway, i feel sad for you Australian guys, having such a retarted classification board.
Nono, that was just the appeal review board. The full board itself is made up of lots of people, from a wide crosssection of the community; many ages and backgrounds. It shuffles pretty often, too. People never spend more than a few years (<5) as a censor.Desert Tiger said:...and the panel is made up of three members? Three old, outdated, not-up-to-speed-with-how-the-world-works-without-horses-and-carts-involved members?
Hence the 18 rated certificate?Malygris said:The "close-in attacks" the weapons allow, and the splatter, decapitations, dismemberment, skeletal bits and gore they cause, are simply too extreme (and freakin' awesome) for young gamers to handle.
Um, ouch? It isn't Australia collectively, it's their fucking government. All I can say is, glad to be in the UK.The Great JT said:Australia, YOU ARE SCUM!
