As been said before, it needs an actual storymode style campaign, the setup of L4D seemed like an Instant Action sort of thing, Keep the weapons how they are and make the playable characters look a little more normal

still just some different weapons with maybe different guns like one that was alot of bullets but isnt very powerful or one that shoots fast or something

I've been imagining how a Left 4 Dead sequel would work out but I honestly thing style-wise, we should go for a Japanese horror thing where not only are the zombies as relentless as the horde is, but each and every single one is as fucking creepy as fuck.

Just imagine Left 4 Dead meets monsters from Silent Hill and you get where I'm coming from.

More levels, and more variety in them (ie: different locations)

As for plot, I thought it was nice how I could use my imagination to fill in the gaps of how they 4 got together and the background of the infection.
(maybe an actual ending would be nice, the "ending" for L4D was sort of...well, dumb)

Character customization

"Survival" Mode (Holding out in a house or some other setting for as long as possible with unlimited waves of zombies coming at you [especially good in versus]. Points scored for time survived.)

i think they shouldn't necessarily make a sequal, but instead create a more involved game with only one character that focuses on survival-horror rather than survival-massacre, because after all it is a zombie game, but instead of frightening and horrific its just incredibly stressful, i'm not saying thats bad, by any means, its one of my favorite games

however they do everthing so well in L4D that i think if they tried they could create a zombie game to rival Silent Hill in creepiness, and the original L4D in pure awsomeness

EDIT: except for when the witch is crying and your not sure where she is, thats pretty creepy

Let's see. Lots of bullets. Hmm, unless I'm mistaken, the pistols have infinite ammo, the shotguns carry over 120 rounds, and the autos have over 350 rounds. Not sure what you're thinking of there, but I guess you have me on the need for guns with a fast rate of fire. I guess the uzi, m16, and MINIGUN don't shoot fast enough.....

no no no i mean a variety of them guns with different stats a m8 or a desert eagle pistol or maybe a sawed off shotgun just some variety so you can choose what you like best

If there was a sequel, (which unfortunately I doubt.) there is not very much I could suggest to add. Sure maybe more maps or whatever, generic requests. But they did really well with the whole team work factor of the game. One thing I really would like, would be maybe more backstory. Maybe the survivors could relate to each other, or have real relationships. I mean, I was saddened to hear they removed any lust or love from Zoey and Francis. Or Zoey and anyone, they seem to come from completely different backgrounds. They just don't seem to have proper relationships. We should at least find out how they met. Something else that would be cool is minor character customisation, I don't mean complete facial reconstruction or changing the name to something ridiculous like xxPwnage551xx. I simply mean changing shirts or trousers or even a cap or something, mix and match clothes. And when survivors die, they are still found in those "survivor closets" except when they're rescued, they're differently dressed. Players could set up a "first life" character, a "second life" character and so on. Something else to work on would be playing with the AI. While fun, they aren't perfect, none are. Something that could be developed with the AI would be a system of trust. Say you shoot them in the back constantly, you burn them with molotovs and you aren't playing as part of a team, then the AI isn't going to trust you much. If you save them a few times, kill your fair share, offer pills and medical kits, and help them up from the ground, they'll start to trust their life in you. The effect of this would be that if they didn't trust you, they'd be reluctant to give heal you and or give you pills, they aren't going to go completely out of their way to save you from a hunter or smoker etc. and they might even make a completely un-sorrowful comment when you die. Inversely, if they trust you, they'll willingly heal you and watch your back, they'll make friendly commments and might get flirty if they're of opposite gender, they'll go nearly out of their way to save you from a hunter etc. and they'll be devastated if you die. So, more in-depth characters, more backstory, more relations between survivors (It is afterall a very emotional time) perhaps something like the trust I suggested and maybe more maps. Just some things if Valve ever does make a sequel. :)

This is VaLVE, people! if there is gonna be a sequel it won't be for about 10 years.

I don't think you can really make a sequel to L4D in the same way you can't make a sequel to Counter-Strike. If you just add new maps and better graphics, then you might as well just update the old game. If you want to seriously redesign the gameplay, then you'll be getting rid of what made it special, and people will just go back to the first one.

I think the closest thing we'll get to a Left 4 Dead Two will be either (a)more updates to the first one or (b)something like Counter-Strike Source or Day of Defeat Source where it just gets updated to the new engine (which will be developed in roughly 30 years).

I agree, but people would have to be able to choose classes or there would be a lot of criticism. If they don't do this than they should at least add more weapons. also just make it in an update and DLC because there is no point in making a new game for such small things.
