Witch's have 1000 health on every single difficulty, so this means that cr0wning works the same on every difficulty. It works the same with either the pump or auto-shotty, but the auto shotty is preferable because if you miss then you can keep shooting and try to kill her before she "rips your nipples off".

A head shot from either shotty will kill her instantly because it does between 1015-1025 damage.

She does not need to be standing up to cr0wn her, you technically don't even need to shut off your flashlight if you're quick about.

The idea you can only do it on easy is a myth. I got on Expert out of necessity because she was blocking the path and somebody needed to kill her.

No, there'll never be more than 1 spawned in an area. A witch and a tank is a little uncomfortable, though.
has that ever happend to you???
All the time. If you're doing well on versus, for some reason the game seemed to like dropping a witch and a tank on you at the same time. Presumably this is supposed to be fixed in the upcoming (possibly already released) patch. Also, in versus it seems that there is an odd trend of the witch spawning in places that make conflict unavoidable.
Yes I had a witch right in front of the saferoom door. There was no way of getting around her.

Well, as you should be aware, it's never worth it to start a fight with the witch if you can avoid it(unless you have a deliciously morbid sense of humor and you just love messing with your teammates). That's just it, of course, the director just loves putting her between you and where you need to be. So, failing that, here are some good strategies for taking out the witch without everyone getting hurt, or having someone incapacitated or killed.

Obviously, first thing you should do for any of these is make sure your flashlight is off.

My personal favorite, seeing as I wuv my good ol' assault rifle, is the backpedal and shoot strategy. Basically, just make sure everyone is out of the witch's path to whoever is going to open fire. Then, back up as far as you can but still have a good view of her, and open fire with your weapon. Once she's startled, start backpedaling and keep shooting, your teammates should open fire as well. If you're firing, this should keep you out of trouble so long as you don't stop and everyone keeps firing with accurate shots.

Cr0wing is also a good strategy, if you can swing it. Basically, equip a shotgun(either one will work, but the auto is you're best bet), go up close to her alone, not so close as to touch her, but close enough that the shotgun cross hairs are mostly taken up by her head, and that she starts growling. Keep a bead on her head, and once she turns around, plant a shot right between her eyes. If you did it right, she should go down in that one shot.

If your party has suitable weapons, another strategy is to get nice and far away from the witch and position yourselves so that two teammates are standing shoulder to shoulder behind the other two, who should be crouching down next to each other. Start a countdown, all of you aiming at the witch, and open fire at the end, all at the same time. As long as you all sustain fire, the witch should go down in the middle of her charge.

Those are basically my best strategies. Just remember, no melee, and be careful of any strategy that involves getting close, because if they get screwed up, you may find your eyes being clawed out by a very angry young lady at pointblank range.

I have NEVER seen that work outside of playing the game on easy.
I have done it 7 times in a row now on Expert. It might take more then one shot, but you can definitely do it. Get two of you to do it, if you want the extra security, but it's not necessary.

Not to sound an elitist prick, but L4D has yet to challenge me. Witches die to one well placed Shotgun round and it can be done with a moderate amount of learning how (I.e: One time stuffing it up and the rest knowing how to do it). The hardest part of that entire game is not shooting down your idiotic teammates.

Just go up to her, wait for her to stand up, when she is looking at you and starts to inhale very fast, shoot her in the face with an auto-shotgun.

Cr0wned...

Amen to that, the only thing stopping me from getting The Untouchables achievement is my friends being idiots and throwing a Molotov.

I remember when I cr0wned my first (and only) Witch. No Mercy rescue on advanced, just before you get out onto the roof, she was sitting there. I had the auto shotty, and I didn't notice she was right behind me. I turned around to see her standing up, and shot like crazy. It wasn't necessary though, my first shot was a headshot, and pwnt her. Needless to say my friends just sat opened jawed, but I thought it was great.

Good times, good Left 4 Dead.

As soon as you hear the music and crying, run around and be the first to find her. Wait for your teammates to arrive to the scene and *accidently* shine a flashlight in here eyes. Run around like mad, emptying all magazines you are carrying. After the witch goes down teabag for a while then patch up your other 3 teammates.

Plan A: Crown.

Plan B: Shotgun Gangbang.

Plan C: Have somebody play bait.

Plan D: Sneak.

all depends on the mode, or if somebody accidently played bait.

in the airport level a witch was placed outside the door to the safe room and all my computer pals ran strait past and dove in the room and the witch didnt do any thing but when i went to go in the room it killed me so i started the level again and blew all my pals up with a pipe bomb
I've had two witches in the same area but not in the same place, if you get me. On Dead Air, (and this has happened to me twice in the last week!) there was a Witch sitting outside the garage, then another one sitting by the door upstairs where I needed to go. The time before that, there was one sitting near the car when you first go into the garage and another one upstairs.

It's normally the opposite to your situation with my AI team mates though, I ran straight past the Witch by the door and it made her start growling and instead of doing the smart thing and just running straight past her, my AI buddies dawdled around her, the result being that Francis got murdered!

Avoid her. It requires little effort on your part and you don't get humilated when you try to Cr0wn her and get mauled.

On expert there was a witch in the way so i snuck up behind it and it started to stand up. just before it attacked i gave it its first headshot with a regular shotgun, startling it. then when it screamed another shotgun blast disposed of it. i do put this down to luck however as this was my first expert campaign, anyone with good skill should be able to pull this off

Stuff a lit molotov down your allies throat then throw him or her at the which. also works with kittens or babies.

I found that my tactic, although complex, is very effective. You get everyone on your team to aim at the witch and shoot it.

What you do is run by it and pray that it attacks a teammate of yours (which it can do). Once it kills your teammate, it runs away. Problem solved!

Necro much?

Anyway, I once played Blood Harvest (SP, easy >_>) and lit her with a molotov, then ran back into the train tunnel facing the Witch and pouring her full of .45 bullets (I was trying to get Akimbo Assassin, otherwise I'd probably have used the Ithaca 37/Benelli M4 (I'm a bit of a stickler for weapon naming)). With the help of my teammates, she went down before she reached me, so no-one got hurt (except the Witch). Yes, I know it's on Easy, but, well..... the achievement doesn't display that :p

can you snipe her in the head for a crown?
She needs to take 1000+ damage to die a hunting riffle does 200 max; she only gets stunned from the shot for a little while. A point blank shot from the shot gun does about that much.

Here's the thing with crowning the witch.

YOU HAVE TO WAIT FOR HER TO STAND ALL THE WAY UP.

I see too many people get behind her and shoot her as soon as she starts to turn around. Until she stands all the way up and is ready to charge, she's invincible, and if you shoot her then, you'll miss the crown.

It takes some practice, but keep your cool and don't let yourself get too antsy about the shot and you'll see it's pretty easy.

I've Cr0wned 2 witches in advanced difficulty and got the "Do not Disturb" achievement you don't have to wait for her to stand up; those times I got behind them rushed up and they barely turned around and kaboom severed spinal cords.
