Even if he narrowed it there are still 5 people on that court that would tell him to piss off. And last I checked 5 out of nine is still the majority.
Amen to that. And if you read their opinion it basically says "Video games are 1st amendment, free speech protected. Period." So it won't matter how much they try narrowing it down. It is still protected free speech.

As for Bob the frantic's question...some people in the US feel they are right and they know what is right even if literally everyone else feels differently. Ultimately it comes down to power and the use/abuse of it. People try circumnavigating the US Constitution as power plays. I would like to be optimistic and say that most are shot down. It won't stop people from trying.

And as for that Senator, he is simply anti-video game. No evidence, no matter how complete or compelling will sway him from his extremism. He's a one trick pony and nothing will ever come of him. Any bill he introduces will get struck down even if it manages to pass through legislature because other US courts will take this ruling as prescidence and immediately strike it down as unconstitutional.

This guy seriously needs to calm down. Considering his last try only really used one game for an example of what would be actually covered by it (Postal 2), what would a narrowed down version cover? Nothing? Hard-core porn games maybe? I honestly can't think of anything much. It really just seems like the guy has some sort of problem with games in general without any real reason for it. The entire thing seems silly. Here's hoping he gets the boot.

Also, I'd love to see his 'crystal clear' evidence.
I was trying to figure out what crystal he was looking though to see the world in his special clear way.

I assume he was referring to crystal meth.

......those smiles haunt me.

Well, at least he just lost the youth vote. Hopefully he won't even be in a position to push a bill through in the next couple years.

"Won't somebody PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!?!?!"

God, this guy is just...I am really curious what the people of California actually think about this Senator's crusade against video games. Seriously. Drugs, alcohol, gangs, sex, those are all fine, kids! As long as you're not playing a bloody video game!

He makes me almost physically sick.

Great, have fun getting reelected after spending millions on nothing. I'm sure you will.

Hey Americans, answer me this - Why do you hold your Constitution in such high regard if every politician and their dog wants to change its meaning or circumvent it? Surely it must get annoying?

It looks like this guy is going to have to find the tiniest nits in the world to pick if he wants to get this case back into the Supreme Court
We do because someone has to. Our politicians as a whole have proved two things: they don't particularly care for smart people, and they can easily convince stupid people to keep voting for them. The system sucks, and the only way to fight it is to go through the system. It's really fucking depressing. Of course, there are hardly any poverty-stricken people in our country, so I guess that's a decent incentive for not fleeing like rats.

"The Bolder, takes issue, with that comment!" There is not absolute proof that violent video games have bad effects on children. The results are all over the map, completely insignificant in any statistical analysis. Move on dude, you lost.

Keep up the fight? This cause has been struck down by the highest court in the land. It's over. There is little you can do to change that.

Crystal clear evidence? Do you want to, oh I don't know, actually cite some solid studies on this subject? Or is that too inconvenient for you? Man, you gotta be kidding me.

He's borderline Jack Thompson right now, the only thing missing is him making a bet, someone doing it, him pussying out, then a webcomic pays the bet for him which gets his cotton panties in a twist so he resorts to hounding and threatening said webcomic like the insane little twat-dweller he is.
Jack's got quite the lead on him though.

In March 2011, in response to the creation of a school shooter mod entitled School Shooter: North American Tour 2012, developed by Checkerboarded Studios on Valve Corporation's Source engine, Thompson emailed Valve's managing director, Gabe Newell, demanding that the mod be removed, as he speculated that Valve played a part in the mod's development. In the letter, Thompson stated that Half-Life was directly responsible for the Erfurt massacre, as well as the Virginia Tech massacre and that Valve had until 5:00 PM on March 18 to remove the mod.
Anyone know what happened with this?

I think most people are missing the point of this whole thing. There is nothing wrong with making the sale of certain video games to minors illegal, it's just that this law went about it in a manner that could have side effects of game censorship or interference with game development. If a new bill that is not over-reaching and fits within both the boundaries of this case's decision and the Constitution, no one should have a problem with that. The potentially harmful law is beaten, dissent or promises to try again do not mean the war is continuing. The war over legislation of this kind is essentially over.

Ok short and simple. Crystal clear evidence that gaming corrupts kids, my ass. look up Ed Gein and the many variables that took place and the fact of lack of games in his child hood. Next. socially crippling our kids, BS. years kids have been socially crippled because of anti social skills and that video games being created it is as stated before, been used as a scapegoat for many things that just don't relate. Dad or Mom or some relative kills or in attentively watches over dead sibling because of gaming. Here is a quote that my dad acquired from his dad and beyond. "Any idiot can create a child, but it takes a real man to take care of that child."

You know, if I was trying to go against a group of people who have been demonized and stereotyped into being horribly brutal and violent people, prone to killing on a whim, I would not attempt to screw with this golden brick set for the road to legitimize gaming as a serious and respected medium. In fact I wouldn't fuck with these people in any way shape or form, because of the likelihood that one of the more extreme members of said group might fucking kill my dumb ass.

Good God, why do these people persist in what is obviously a LOST CAUSE people today are so many leagues away from the sensibilities(while becoming more sensitive if that can fucking be believed)than what they were a few decades ago, exposed tits, gore aplenty, and cursing; all are a thousand times more widespread and ACCEPTED AS THE NORM than as the exception to the chasteness of yester-year. and getting worse by the day.

so why is this sensitive-desensitized society expected to give to tugs of a dead frogs cock about these things?

Niether will I, those are the creepiest smiles ever smiled by anti-gaming people.

As for the topic: Dear people of California, you're having a budget issue and this guy just spent millions in an attack on the first amendment, please do not re-elect him or you will lose millions more.

And spend more taxpayer money fighting losing battles. Isn't California, like, broke?
