Lesbian stereotype

I guess I must be the only one with a different view of the "Lesbian Stereotype".

One of my closest friends is BiSexual, but she prefers women to men, and she is unbelieveably attractive and friendly, with a generally positive attitude to everything. She doesn't engage in the typical manly activties (Sure, she wants to come to Airsoft with me eventually, but that's beside the point), and she hasn't got short hair.

Another woman I know is a Lesbian, she's a little older than me, but also attractive and, in fact, quite girly.

That is how I have experianced Homosexual/Bisexual Women.

You complete and utter git.

You know women (regardless of orientation) who want to try airsoft.

Fuckin A!!

I am rather jealous of you right now.

Is now a bad time to say that my Girlfriend goes to Airsoft, too? D-

I thought the general stereotype was that there is a feminine and a masculine woman in each relationship.

Not that this should be necessary given the context but: I am aware that this is frequently not the case. Hence why I said it was the stereotype.

It's interesting to know why this stereotype is inaccurate though; too often, heterosexual people assume that non-heterosexuals still inhabit the heteronormative gender binary of masculine and feminine.

It's also why heterosexuals think there has to be a "masculine" gay man and a "feminine" gay man in a relationship.

Blame the post WWII fear of communism for that stereotype. Homosexuals in general became a target for blackmail and any open gays were fired from their jobs. As a result lesbian subculture became extremely rigid. Essentially a gay women had to be either butch or femme. And they only dated the opposite, femmes dating femmes and the reverse was frowned upon.

Then the feminists decided that butch lesbians 'role-playing as men' wasn't in the interest of equality.

Those roles really aren't that common now days.
