Now I don't know if you've seen an advertisement for this movie yet but if you haven't here you go.
And in case you were wondering, yes it is Let the Right One In only with Americans and our amazing way of taking good things and trying to redo them.

So what are your predictions for this film?

Honestly, it looks pretty mediocre.

It's hard to say as this is first time I've heard about this film though.

This is an atrocity. I have both the film and novel of 'Låt den rätte komma in' and i can just tell this will be completely ruined with over the top use of violence, blood and all manner of effects that come with the Americanisation and Hollywood take on any independent and foreign media. It'll lack the atmosphere and spirit of the original Swedish tale. I think it'll focus less on Oskar and Eli's story and more on trying to make it into some sort of horror flick. I've seen the American Actors who will be filling in for Abby (formerly Eli) and Owen (formerly Oskar) on wikipedia and i get the feeling it'll completely lose that almost isolated small-town vibe that was the heart of the original, since Swedish towns tend to be fairly small by nature as opposed to big American suburbs and that was part of the atmosphere. American films are good, i just hate remakes of any kind - particularly ones from foreign to 'western' or 'english speaking' audiences. (I know Sweden counts as being western, but you know what i mean.)

Just like the planned Girl with the Dragon Tattoo AmeriMake, studio execs have completely failed to notice that what made the original good was its tone and atmosphere, which was brought about by the location and the sensibilities of the local directors, crew and screen talent.

There should be a law against American remakes. I'd handle losing The Departed and State of Play over it.

It looks really mediocre at best, but I'll try and give it a fair chance. Also, didn't know it was a remake.

American re-makes of good foreign films... I'll never understand it.

I hate what it shows about people, that they're so closed-off and unwilling to step outside their own little sphere of comfort that they have to have their entertainment custom butchered so it doesn't challenge them. I hate the fact that when making the remakes the producers take the full opportunity to re-work the film for their predicted audiences, taking away and adding things that they believe will make the film appeal to their closed-off and uninteresting market base. The result is something as closed-off and uninteresting as the people themselves without any of the magic that made the original good.

Still, a "Let The Right One In" remake isn't as shocking as the remake of "Death at a Funeral". Okay so some people can't cope with a Swedish language film, I'll give them that - but they can't even deal with an English film? They're so shut in that the'll flee at the sound of a british accent over an american one?

(For the record it's not just Americans who are like this.)

As long as these films keep making a modest profit they'll still get made. I can live with that because at least the original writers and film-makers get a tiny slice of the pie.

This looks like a fucking scene-by-scene remake.

So, all they did was re-inact the original movie with American actors?!

Good Christ, can't these people just read the fucking subtitles? Is this really such a chore?

Wow... looks like a scene for scene remake... I doubt it will be any good though.

The original film was just incredible and I personally found reading the sub-titles to make it even more intense... Plus after about 5 minutes you don't even notice.

Exactly this.

I'm not sure what it is with the greater American public (And I'm well aware not all Americans are like this) and foreign films. There's a certain mindset that Americans can't empathize with characters unless they're American. Now, I don't know how true that is, but Hollywood seems to believe it and that leads to shit like this.

It just seems so pointless.
The real problem is that shit like this is like a vicious circle: A foreign movie gains popularity whereby Holywood makes its own Americanized version wich drowns out the original because it's backed up by the Hollywood marketing machine.

I bet they make Abby a girl. The Swedish version already toned down Eli's, aah, ambiguity and Håkan's perdatory nature.

Eh, I could either way with it. If I see and like it, I'll be happy. If I see and hate it, at least I have the original to enjoy. Maybe it'll be like [rec] and Quarantine; sure the original was fucking awesome, but the American remake wasn't too bad.

Happened with Wings of Desire, which was made into the dreadful City of Angels, and Abre Los Ojos, which I enjoyed, was made into the also dreadful Vanilla Sky. Countless others after that too.

They're even doing it to fucking Oldboy.
*plugs ears* Aah God, did you have to say Vanilla Sky?! I'd almost purged that movie from my memory.

Now that I think about though, it's surprising they never made an Americanized version of Takashi Miike's Audition. Maybe it wasn't popular enough.

Yes, yes it is. For you see, as a proud American, I can't read. And I'll be damned if you dare force me to learn how.

I'm looking forward to seeing it actually.
Both of the lead actors are great, and I'm interested to see how it compares to the original, one of my favourite movies.

All this bitching about American remakes annoys me - a bad remake doesn't affect the greatness of the original. If you don't like the remake, just forget about it. Nobody is forcing you to watch it again, and there's no reason to endlessly complain about it.

At least they're not Americanizing City of God; I'd start a riot if they did.

Sucks, stupid, hate it, ruining a great thing, pisses me off, hate lazy fuckers who don't wanna read subtitles and are missing out on a brilliant film.

I've just gotta say, it better include child on child violence, eunuch vampires, and acid face melting. Even so, I'd still hate it.

Whoever this idea belongs to, kill yourself.
Wow so do you realize that there are other demographics than your own? I frequently watch movies with my girlfriends mom who has poor english and has a much better time listening to english rather than reading it. So this would be a much better way for her to watch Let the Right one in. This remake doesn't destroy the original so why don't you just calm down and turn it down a tad?

Well yes it kinda of is, I'm not very good at multi-tasking so reading and watching at the same to would be hard on me and I would be missing out on what going on screen or missing out on dialoge. Though I'm just speaking for myself here.

Also didn't know it was a remake, and don't care. The remake won't make the orignal dissapper off the face of the planet. I know it will feel like it will cheapen the orignal but it won't it'll still be there. You can also start acting smug for seeing the orginal and you will.

I just don't see the point, Hollywood still has this ridiculous idea that people are too stupid to read subtiles to the extent that they could only enjoy the film if it is remade shot for shot using american actors. It's not even like let the right oe in or Dragon Tattoo are old movies, they came out virtually last yearand to remake them this soon seems absurd.

I don't have a problem with subtitles and I have a slower than average reading speed to the extent that I get extra time in my exams. I don't how other people stuggle with them so long as you pay attention and aren't riddled with ADHD.
