I remember Yahtzee saying in an interview (Note, Not directly quoted) "Write a book, then make a game out of it."

Let's actually do that. Writers of the escapist, write a book, show it to anyone with some good skills with game making, and let's go!

My one is about aliens invading Russia, but it would probably be like silent hill.

If the world took all of Yahtzee's advice, he would probably own the world, everything in it, and then murder us all.

OK, but we are not doing that, are we?

We are just taking a bit of it. It would help storylines.

Read the post. The post said that Yahtzee suggested to game developers to make a book, then make into a game. Let's actually do that. Make a book, use it as a story for a game, then make the game.

Let's not and say we did.

Besides, plenty of brilliant games have pathetic storylines, and plenty of brilliant storylines are in pathetic games. It's required to have at least one of those two things be good for the game to be good, but both is a coup most games never manage. And as horrible as so many game stories are, I have my doubts that your average Escapist could do much better. Except for Ninja Gaiden. A mentally-challenged titmouse could write a better script for that game.

Funny how we respect Yahtzee so much.

If he told us to take our shoes off right then and there , most of us will.

Well I actually AM writing a SciFi novel, and while I wouldn't set a game in it directly I wouldn't mind seeing a game in its universe.

...

[small]But my book does feature anthros rather heavily (but not exclusively) and if experience has shown me anything it's that most of you probably won't be so down with that idea.[/small]

I appear to be the only one who doesn't think this is a horrible idea... It would be quite interesting though, as it would give more freedom then a Game based on a Film, but still follow a set course. Although I doubt we could ever get a book written.

Good call, although maybe Avatar is going to start some kind of unexpected pro-anthro wave of support. Wouldn't count on it, though.

And the difference between that and what they do now is...?

I'm sad.
I hate everyone.
I kill them all with a buther knife.

[HEADING=2]The end.[/HEADING]
that sums up pretty much every narrative my mate Daniel has ever written.

It would give you more freedom. Game Storylines always have to fit in with what you have, and that can affect the quality. Bioshock is an exception, though.

Yes and if you wrote a book you'd have to condense it on to what you have and are capable of doing; its exactly the same.

I'll tell you what: i'm currently writing not a book, but an overall setting - a spiteful parody on Warhammer 40k, to be precise. I guess it could make for a nice game setting, but i am kinda stuck at the point of writing up baseline essentials.
