Do you have any idea how difficult it is to co-auther a book? What I could do for you is throw a whole bunch of NPCs at you, a plot line and let you run with it. After the initial shove I would have nothing to do with the whole thing, because it would just end up being a SNAFU. Also, the base material I use to write my stuff is own by White Wolf, which means anything I write is own by...you guessed it...White Wolf. Never mind that I steal most of my actual writing material from history and fiction books.

Hate to burst Yahtzee's bubble but most books are actually pretty mediocre or just plain bad. I mean yes, there are a lot of great books out there but only because it's a creative medium that's been around for a lot longer than video games. For every War and Peace, or Adventures of Tom Sawyer, there are hundreds of other books that were just sort average run of the mill entertainment. Making a book, and then making it into a game isn't some kind of ultimate formula. Most likely we'd just have a mediocre book and then a mediocre game to go with it.

Once and while you'll get a great book that's released that really makes an impact on literature. And once in a while you'll get a great game that really makes an impact on the industry. But it's all very hit or miss, like all forms of creative thought.

But Lord of the rings was alright. That was based on a movie of a book too, the thing is that the LotR movie was actually pretty good.

And Dante's Inferno is looking like it might turn out good even if it is pretty much a God of War clone

I have had this one idea for a game in my head

here's a brief summary

A virus almost wiped out the entire human race, but luckily a company created an intravenous cure, which requires daily replacement to avoid death. Due to the amount of power the company has over the world, they now have almost complete control over the work force and all parts of life and have recreated civilization in one giant, behemoth city referred to as the"citadel". There is a guerilla warfare group whose main goal is to get rid of the company's monopoly on the cure, to stay under the grid they have developed syringe like devices, permanently attached to their arm, which they use to drain the blood of enemies in order to stay alive.

That's the basic premise, the main character is obviously going to be on the rebel side, I am also thinking of making the plot twist be that, the virus was created by the company and was designed to be shortlived and was used as a plot to get the entire world addicted to their "cure".

This is what happens when I have too much spare time

except for Tim Schafer
and maybe a woman, if she agrees to wear a Tim Schafer mask

Did anyone actually think this thread would ever be organized enough to accomplish the OP's goals?

I'm with Samurai Goomba on this...

"Let's not and say we did"

I don't see that working out.
Even if we did write a book with an orgasm inducing storyline, game designers would probably change it to fit the game better. People tend to see something amazing and think they can do better.

Okay, there's more to it than just writing. It has to be good. And not everyone here is a writer, and we can't just write a book on command. And if you make a book out of a game, the game play will mostly be horrible. And even if someone here succeeded, I doubt it will be big since most of us probably don't have contacts with the big companies. So, your plan is flawed.

Book of the year 2010.

Game of the year 2011.

Hopefully a movie will be made by 2012.

And it will win every award possible!

Fallout 3 kinda already did that. So did American McGee's Alice to an extent.

You can't really make a book into a game, as books are story and dialog driven, not action driven like games are. If you can come up with a story and create a game around it, good job, but it might be easier to have writers to the story for the game.

Pretty much that. We'd also continue to say we had no idea Brutal Legend was going to have any RTS elements despite reading about five articles on the Escapist about it.

My one is about aliens invading Russia, but it would probably be like silent hill.
Sorry to rain on your parade but invading aliens in russia is sorta the opening story of Resistance: Fall of Man thouh Silent Hill style would be different. (Not trying to be rude honest.)

OK, but we are not doing that, are we?

We are just taking a bit of it. It would help storylines.
I presonally can't take advice from Yahtzee, porque I only watch his videos for their humor.
