Fuck you, it was designed to sit on so I'm sitting on it.
You mean I am not the only one who does that? Cool!

Yes. No. Maybe? There's something to be said for arguments which 'Prove too much'.

Just to avoid a double standard of only treating issues in which women get the shaft are worth calling out, I won't reprise my entries in a similar thread(though I will link to it [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.285506-Favorite-double-standards#11260066]) though they are interconnected(suffice it to say, it is related to the whole thing with varying comfort levels with differently gendered body types).

Instead, I'll...
point to a slight variant on it since it gets bought up on this site so often. Why is it considered okay when the classic super heroes wore more clothing than even their direct female counterparts:

but when the opposite is true,it is seen as 'proof' that female super heroes aren't 'allowed' to wear as much as the males, even when every other female member of the team wears more than the one example wearing less than some of the males on the team?:

Then, there is also this mess [http://youtu.be/4JA4EPRbWhQ].

Epic phrase
That phrase makes me think of an episode of the Powerpuff Girls which happened to be about double standards.

Yes,Captcha, I do "take umbrage" with double standards.

Yep, I've seen this video. AA is fucking awesome, he is my favorite ranter to listen to on youtubes.
I like how with your examples, the clothing is more or less the same for both sexes, "oh, but the men show off their muscles, while the women show off their boobs?! HAX!!!" But both cases are just as showy really. Your examples are not as bad as the difference between guy armor and fem armor in most vidya games.

It's because men are usually portrayed strong and dependent. The female super heroes who wear these similar and revealing outfits, however, usually possess less of said qualities and are more overtly sexualized.

My opinion, anywho.

"So lemme get this straight.... You're pissed at me because I didn't tell my friends about us (for your benefit, believe me), yet you're failing to realize that your best friend is the only person who knew about me. And the guy that hangs around with you 24/7 who you're pretty certain has a crush on you doesn't know, the guy who asked you to the prom doesn't know, and your stalker ex-boyfriend who cheated on you that you claim you hate doesn't know...."

I believe you just single-handedly killed your original thread topic with the chosen example. Controversial indeed.
I'm now going to attempt to medic this thread to get it back on track.

My friend's philosophy of gaming is that X is noobish and overpowered unless he gets good at it. Case in point, on a couple of Halo: Reach maps his strategy is to camp near where a banshee spawns halfway through and take it, then own the rest of the match. Absolutely the sort of thing he'd call noobish if someone else kept doing it.

A more blatant example is TF2. He spent weeks bitching about how OP and noobish the demoman was, and then one day "oh man, I love playing as the demoman. I'm so awesome as him!"

AAAARGGHHH!!!!

There was also the time that he went around quite seriously saying he'd decided he must be the best Halo player in the world, because he usually claimed second or first place, and was able to camp or snipe anyone on our friends list. Apparently when Halo 4 comes out, weapon and vehicle spawns will be totally random. That'll fuck his play method up :D

Me: "soooo...why don't you do it yourself?"
Cause guys splash pee all over it when they go and we don't want to have to touch that shit.
What the hell epileptic, chronically drunk guys do you hang out with?

I have a joke about that:

An American man, a Canadian man and a British man are in the men's room. After peeing, the American goes to wash his hands, and says "my mother taught me to wet my hands, lather them in soap and rinse them after I pee."

The Canadian man finishes, and goes to wash his hands, saying "well, MY mother taught me to spend at least one minute working a sheen of soap over the palms and backs of my hands, and in between my fingers, then spend another minute rinsing it thoroughly off."

The British man finishes up and heads for the door, saying "well my mum taught me not to go pissing on my hands."

I know a girl whom does masculine things like wears pants, doesn't shave her arms, and has sex with women, but when her male friend tries to show her MLP her first response is "What are you? Queer!"

He needs to pick his friends better.
Shave her arms?
Who shaves their arms? Did you mean legs?
Wearing pants isnt that masculine any more either.
I have never seen a woman on t.v. with hair on her arms, unless it was played for laughs; there's a Steve Harvey Show episode that I remember in particular. It's only been recently that I have notice some women in real life with hair on their arms. I just assumed the rest shaved their arms or do not a grow noticeable amount hair in the first place.

To make a short even shorter, I was just making a joke. I consider not shaving and wearing pants masculine, but I don't think any less of a woman whom also does these things.
I'm a woman and I've never heard of shaving arms. Women do grow less hair on heir arms, though, my boyfriend has wolf-arms and I only have small hairs that are hard to notice. I just asked because I was wondering if I had missed something. As for TV I doubt they would be zoomed in enough for you to see hair on womens arms. Or maybe some women on TV wax everythiing so they can look more like dolphins. Who knows.

That video makes some good points actually, but it's pretty clear that guy starts overreacting a little when he implies men are becoming an oppressed minority. Didn't he also once have a huge rant on reddit in which he outright said this girl he disagreed with should be raped?

Those examples he listed were horrible and disgusting, though. That "The Talk" show... argh, it makes me angry.

Here's a pretty familiar one:

Black guys say nigga: It's all good, everyone has good time & they chill talking about whatever & possible Madden/COD/Club/Homie Time/Wherever afterwards

White guys say nigga: Potential confrontation, beatdown, possible WorldStarHipHop.com footage of said beatdown, possible hospital or morgue visit afterwards

I actually think that this one is completely justified.

You know how you can insult your close friends, say horrible things to them, then just laugh it off because it's clear that you aren't coming from a place of hatred? The same things that you say to your friend would be pretty abhorrent to say to a stranger. It's not the words themselves but the whole social context around them that is important.

If a black guy says "******" or "nigga", he is clearly not insulting the person that he is saying it to, because that would be hypocritical. On the other hand, white people have a long history of using that word to express hatred and condescension towards black people.
Its totally possible that a white guy saying "******" has no hatred towards black people and was simply using it as an informal greeting. However, this guy would merely be demonstrating very poor social intelligence and a total lack of understanding of the history of that word.

Maybe compare it to being called a "nerd" by a nerd and being called it by some macho douchebag. Or how gay people can use words like "fag" and "queer". From one group of people, the word is a sign of hatred, whereas from another, its a badge of pride.

My contribution: Faith and cultural schools

In England there are schools that can turn you away because you are not of the faith or background that they want. For example, there are Jewish schools, Islamic schools and there are schools only for people from a certain part of the world.
I want to make it clear though that I don't think that the solution is "then there should be white British schools as well!". No, all schools should be available for everyone.
The only exception being, perhaps, special needs schools, simply because its the best way to use resources to provide for special needs children.

That pisses me off as well.

Another example is Assassin's Creed 2. Ezio goes around Italy, killing scores of people. Usually guards, who are most likely just doing their job. Trying to feed their family, you know, normal things. Ezio murders so many without a second thought, kills all the leaders, and finally gets to the guy who manipulated everything and everyone.

And Ezio lets him go.

Pretty fucked up.
gameplay and story segregation? you dont actually have to kill that many gaurds in game...hell you can actually knock them all out half the time

but yeah it does seem out of charachter...perhaps theres the theme of not letting revenge and your bloodlust take over you (like Garrus from Mass Effect) but then with Ezio he seems past that point since he's decided to make killing his full time job

Holy cow, this is an excellent point. I have to say that, as a woman, I never looked at it that way.

The one thing I have to say in defense of that is that it's a bit worse to not notice and slip and fall in the toilet than the effort it would take to move it down when you're done. Just sayin'.

To be fair its from a south park episode based around that whole argument x), and you are right in that aspect its worse for women if the toiler seat is up. Luckily for me i grew up in a house with 3 women, 2 sisters and me Ma so i no longer need the seat up anyway after all those years hehe.

really want you to see how guys can see it as being shameful. All guys don't think this way(myself included) but some do. Most of the time in porno, women are being degraded. Paying them to have sex on screen, but it is not always just that. After all there are pornos where the guy tries to to see how far he can shove his member down her throat as she gags for air. Really gross ones where all the men beat off into a cup, then the women drinks about a pint of semen. Don't think it's wrong for a women to enjoy sex, but the simple act of penetration is where guys start judging them. Of course it's not hard to see why. Some woman has had sex in every hole and some guy finds out about it, he tends to put her on a lower standard if he is not dating her.
but this has nothing to do with porn..I'm talking about real life...they are very different

yeah the natural reaction to somone who sleeps around and apears to have little self worth is negatve <-and mabye theres a correlation there (just going by anecdotal evidence)

but then people can be into all kinds of things, if they want to indulge whatever then thats their thing..regardless of gender
Really isn't that different. Alot of men have shaped their opinions of women through porno. Make it a point to tell me that we don't get influenced by what we see because it is not real life. Pretty much everyone on the planet has been influenced by some other means that may not ring true in the world around them.
.....I...I don't know what to say to somebody that takes their social ques from porno.

Ummm, Sometimes plumbing doesn't mean sex?
Um, are you talking about transgendered people? Because that's gender, not sex. Gender is what's in your head, sex is what your parts are. Nevermind, misunderstanding. As I was:

As for Mr. MacDonald's comment... well, I can accept pornography shaping SOME men's views on women, but far from "alot [sic] of men".
