You can always tell when a good series is going into the toilet because it starts to go down the shonen power struggle (tm) path. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was an exception, because a) there's no "strengthening" of the characters until the very, very end of the arc (using the 3rd story arc as an example), b) cunning and outwitting the opponent is way more important to victory than power levels, c) the series was never intended to be anything OTHER than a series of highly entertaining battles, and d) it's one of the freaking best drawn mangas of all time.geldonyetich said:Personally, I can't stand shonen power struggles that basically work out the formula:
1) Protagonist discovers he has a unique potential.
2) Big bad guy appears.
3) Protagonist strengthens self using training technique.
4) Protagonist defeats the bad guy.
5) A new, bigger bad guy appears!
6) Go to 3, over and over again, for hundreds of episodes, until people completely lose interest in the anime.
7) Protagonist's hard work pays off, the plot moves forward to something else. (Warning: we were never reach this step.)
It worked for Dragonball Z, but then everybody wanted to be the next Dragonball Z, and where imitation comes in entertainment the novelty and value of it is largely lost.
As I said before, the only real reason to watch the anime is for the music.Guffe said:I watched the anime to about the same point as the creator of the thread and then moved on to the manga (same with Naruto). I think the manga is really nicely written and now it even seems to be coming to and end which would be darn great since it's a bit too long already in my opinion but in overall it's a good way to get some time to fly if you have nothing to do.
first off: FUUUUUUUUUUUUU! for getting me back on tvtropes. I just got off the damn thing an hour ago.Ashsaver said:I like it the first few volumes, but when the series do Genre Shift [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GenreShift] i kinda stop reading it.
Um, in the latest chapter apparently Gin took the Hougyoku orb thingy from Aizens chest, but SURPRISE SURPRISE Aizen can survive without it now because he and the orb have a very intimate relationship. I know, sad but true. I think Tite just stopped caring and is just screwing with us(the readers).Sworm said:I read the manga because Ever since Kubo's trolling streak in the recent chapters I just HAVE to know how far he ll take it...
I mean with the appearence of Ishin and right after that Aizen turning into a pearl-death angel thing just when you think that Ichigo and Ishin kicked his ass. He procedes to slaughter everyone and then just keeps on going like nothing until Gin turned out to be a traitor (or something) and apparently kills AIzen but is still fucked up considering How many people he willingly harmed and right after that Aizen resurects and just comes out of nowhere and Slashes Gin like there's no tommorow...
Trolling extravaganza!
Oh and what happened to Kon?
As for the anime, I watch it because I think the animators did a Kick ass job. I mean how awesome was Ichigo vs Ulquiora (sp?).
