I legitimately can't tell if this is a joke or absolutely serious. Satire is dead.
I remember last year meeting one guy who thought that the coronavirus was literally the C-Virus from Resident Evil 6. I immediately asked if that was a case, then why hasn't anybody turned to zombies or monsters immediately? His immediate response was, "Uuuhh, I don't know". What doesn't help over those idiots that use the whole "it's satire excuse" to act as if their immune to criticism. This became a big problem online with guys like CinemaSins (who really made that phrase popular) and Movie Bob constantly defending Family Guy as " good satire". Ironic, because MB actually hate CinemaSins.
We're post Satire here, people. There's pretty much no way to tell the difference between an anti-vaxxer and someone making fun of anti-vaxxers anymore, because of the sheer level of stupid involved.

To be clear, these are the people that will supposedly be rational and accept mask mandates if we just treat them like the adults they so obviously are not. I am so fucking sick of the rest of us having to carry the dead weight of these contrarian morlocks.

Especially on reddit and twitter, I've been seeing more and more people grave-dancing, demonizing, making thinly-veiled calls for violence and outright wishing of death upon other people. From both sides.

It's shit like this, that make me wish we were more careful with the media we create. I'm all for freedom of expression and all that, but to say that the media we consume, doesn't influence our perceptions of the world, it's just not true, for a terrifyingly large % of the population. It's why I got really annoyed with the 1.0 version of this site, in their science/technology articles, when they would ALWAYS describe every fucking breakthrough in some pop culture variant "good job they made Skynet, we're all doomed." Totally ignoring the actual GOOD things the tech could be used for, and instead devoting entire articles to doomsaying something, entirely based on a fucking movie plot.
It's why I have to constantly explain to idiots that just because your films constantly show atheists as being this way, the reality is that we just don't believe your shit story. Because all they ever see is "angry at god" atheist, so they just assume I'm butt hurt about some past tragedy.
We as humans can be REALLY bad at jumping to the wrong conclusion about something, based on how we bring in and process information. Which is why critical thinking skills are so vital. They give us a framework to actually assess the information, with as little bias as possible. And hopefully come to an answer that accurately reflects reality, not our own inner model of it.
A year or 2 ago I would agree with you. But given these people have no plans to provide me with the same basic decency, and their actions are causing catastrophic harm on EVERY level of society, I frankly have less patience for "just tolerating them" these days. Tolerating their insanity is WHY we are in this shit show we are in now.
So yeah, frankly, I really couldn't fucking care less about this fucking idiots anymore. And I really don't care if they die. And yes, I DO laugh to myself, every time I see a news article about some religious, conservative fucknut preacher, dying because they caught covid.
They've clearly shown they have ZERO plans to work with us and come to a middle ground. So, fuck them all.
It's not a matter of just having a different opinion. These imbeciles are literally doing crap that are endangering themselves, their families, their friends and others, and they don't care out "of selfish pride. There's only so much love for thy enemy", before it takes its toll. And I'm not that big of a fan of it to begin with either. So how about they do a favor and actually be people with some actual God damn sense.
